Really interesting. Had no desire to play headless or fannedfret/multiscale, but this is intriguing and sounds great. Very focused, crisp tone for a bartolini spec’d instrument. Sounds almost like EMGs but a touch thicker tone.
Played one of the „older“ models at the Thomann shop last October. It was the six string version. Me, more of a old-school bass lover, never played a six string before, was very shocked in a good way how it feels and sounds. Was very close to buy it. These are insane!
I've been playing one since May of 2022, and it's still my favorite bass. I also love the Spector Dimension NS-5, which I switch off and on for certain things. Nothing beats the ease, weight, and easy maintenance of these things. I wish Ibanez would release a more expensive one with the same Walnut topped aesthetic, with more expensive hardware. I would absolutely buy one.
I look forward to one day playing an amazing bass like that one day! It might be totally different not having a headstock with the tuning pegs!!! So hyped!!! 😬😬😬
I got the 2020 mate green one . swapped out the p.u.s for aguilar ones.Sounds fantastic ! Gets almost any sound. Does have its drawbacks though . At times it's difficult to tell where you are on the fretboard. Also the side makers dont glow and it sounds dull when played unplugged. No matter how bright the strings are. Other than that, it's my go to bass.
Man that is one of the prettiest basses I've seen and I've wanted a headless bass for some time too. I'm tempted to get one but I'm not sure on the pickups however. They sound a bit flat to me.
I think I would prefer one of their higher end basses from 15 or 20 years ago. Played one at guitar Center don’t remember which one but it was phenomenal…
The 1500 series has Nordstrands, the 1000s had Barts. Since this is a 1200 series, I think they picked some of the upgrades that the 1500 series has (wood and neck construction) and left others out (pickups) to keep the costs down.
Exactly why they did put these barts in and not NS .... not the have same price as the EHB w NS .... one thing i dont get why not NS .... i like the wood selection on this one too
1: Do the preamp mod to stop those Barts sounding so bad. The preamp has 2 plugs and sockets. Swapping them both to the empty positions will change the flat EQ setting to get a much nicer treble, and the other will give a 6db increase in output when the preamp is on. 2: Still rip out the Barts and install either the Nordstrands from the more expensive models or the Aguilar DCB4 set. I've done both of those mods to mine and it is a far better sounding bass now.
@@trance9158 The stock preamp is fine when the internal plugs are moved. The big problem is the cheap Barts. They are not anywhere close to the expensive high end Bartolini. They are just horrible and dull sounding.
@@MadMagicPaul I've never liked barts and I prefer the Sonar and Darkglass pre amps over all others. I use to be a die hard EMG user and would swap the electronics out with those as well.
@@keithpasculli7465 The Barts used are cheap ones. I had them in my Ibanez. Have a look on the bass forums. Swapping pickups from the cheap Barts to something else is a very common modification on the EHB basses. Usually to the Nordstrands as they can just be ordered directly, or the Aguilar DCBD4. Because of the fan frets the 5 string needs the 6 string pickup size. EMGs don’t fit? I didn’t want to spend £300 on new pickups! But that is what it needed.
The problem is...EVERY bass on this channel sounds killer. This channel has prompted me to buy too many basses. BUT The majority I've ended up selling or returning.
I was kinda underwhelmed by the tone of these EHB basses when I played a couple up at the Sweetwater showroom. I WANTED to love 'em, cuz I dig the look/shape/multi-scale/headless things about them, but I didn't think the pickups sounded as good as they could and the preamp felt a little weird. All the hardware seemed a little cheapy too. I've been saying for a while that Ibanez should do a SUPER DELUXE version at $2000 that has better electronics and hardware/build quality.
i own the 1505, and it is one of the best instruments ive ever had the pleasure of playing, its incredibly versatile with its tone control, and the Aguilar pickups sound absolutely beastly, if you want an EHB, go for the 1505
@@tackypotato207none of them come with Aguilars, the either come with barts, nordstrands, or the T1 pickups. If you got one with aguilars someone put them in there.
Yesterday i was thinking a Warwick GPS 6 String will be my new Bass Guitar…. and now i learn about this beast…. Holy shit i‘m lost. Can you guys make a shoutout between Ibanez and Warwick Basses?
Great bass but the thing I found about headless is the restricted string choice... try clamping one of the Galli Synthesis nylon core strings and see what happens!
@@PorchBass A lot of strings the wrap is not designed/too delicate to be crushed by the clamping system. The wrap breaks open and starts to unravel when you tune up. TI and Galli Synthesis go that way as do some others as they're not designed to be cut and crushed before the silk wrapping.
Hey guys! Really stoked about this particular model. How much does it weigh? By the way, you wouldn't mind sending that one you have over here for testing, would you? :) Kidding.
Cool and entertaining review, as always :) the Ibanez bass sounds really great. Are those two Ibanez BTB basses in the back a spoiler for coming reviews? ;)
@@bthonk Yeah that's true but there's something about an instrument that you pick up and fall in love with the whole package right away, how it feels and sounds. This one wouldn't do it for me
I think a lot of it is his playing. He’s playing it very percussively with a lot of treble. I’ve heard other demos of this particular bass where it sounds great. I’ve owned a few Ibanez basses over the years, an ATK, a Prestige SR and a regular old Indonesian Soundgear. The EQ’s were so versatile on all 3 that you can really shape it for almost any situation. I mean would you look a little funny in a Motown cover band playing a fanned fret headless bass? Maybe a little, but sonically nobody would bat an eyelash. I mean a lightweight, headless bass with a chambered body and a carbon fiber reinforced neck? I’d take it in a heartbeat. Sounds like a good bass that would stay out of my way.
whyyy whyyyy they didnt put Nordstrands into that ?????? Why they did put these BH 2 there , dont get that .... Just as usual NS there , but no put BH2 instead
Great bass plagued by a terrible engineering choice. I bought my bass on 1/18/24 and the Nuetrik jack is already failing. It pops and cracks and its tough to get the cable out of the jack. If you are a pro you should be going wireless, if you are a bedroom player you do NOT need a locking jack. Period. Im not sending my bass halfway across the fucking world at my expense to replace a $20 output jack under warranty. What a joke!
Amazing how labeling a bass "Ibanez" completely changes the tone despite them having a variety of electronics options that many other brands also carry.
I dont know what are you talking about. Take a prestige Ibanez bass and it will kills many boutique basses. Same for the high end BTB. Im just tired of the gimmicks of multiscale. The intonation is not better and it works for really low tuning stuff (djent=gimmicks too)...

EHB = Ergonomic Headless Bass.
I've wanted one of these since they were released. None in stores here yet though.
"Ergonomic" indeed. This is the second review I see that makes the same mistake.

some people give bartolini a bad rap and unfortunately it stuck. bh2's are awesome

I love bartolini pickups. A lot of folks don't but I do.
That dude is killing it on the bass!
Actually thought his playing ruined it and was annoying

The B string should sound way more defined on a multiscale.
That depends solely on the length of the neck, of course the instrument itself should sound more balanced and the string tension should be more even.
