I mean its a good looking bass but i didn't like the sound. Its bot punchy and low like most other basses. And honestly fender is overrated. I love mt sterling ray34. Its a beast

People usually say an active bass has "infinite sounds" when really all I hear are 2 OK ones and many other crappy ones no matter how you turn the knobs, but these Ibanez basses have tons of great, usable sounds!
Both guitars sound perfect! For me, I see the 1505 is more direct and concrete and has absolutely beatiful sound. The 1005 series is more muted or hidden for me, but still sounds amazing.
Hey Nathan, thanks for joining Frost* my favourite prog band. When I saw you throwing down with Jem I was like omg it's Nathan and he's taking the band to the next level!. Looking forward to Frost* 4!
Not too crazy about the one with Bartolini pickups. The one with Nordstrands sounded amazing to me. I'd love to see someone switch the pickups though to get a better idea of the actual difference between electronics.
I own a strandberg and since then I won't buy another guitar unless it's headless! But yeah, they are definitely overpriced and I can't wait for ibanez to shake up the headless guitar market. I'll buy one day one.
The lack of bottom end on the fanned fret model may be due to the pickups being angled towards the bridge on the bass side, this would produce a thinner but more focused tone on the low strings.... but a warmer fatter sound on the treble strings.
Bass and salutations! I gotta be honest and say I'm kinda disappointed in the audio in this review. Seems to me like the audio we're hearing is very different (and worse) than the sound in the room. I think it'd be cool to see them in a regular context sort of like the opposite of 'Does it djent' idea

I've said it once and ill say it many more times... Every time i hear Nordstrand pickups on any bass they completely sound cheap, empty, no bottom end, no character and just a huge hype going around them... After hearing Nathans slapping on the black cheaper model with the Bartolini pickups, i can honestly say along with his SUPERB slapping technique reminded me of a Status Mark King bass sound and tone for just 900 damn pounds!!! Bartolinis for the DEFINITE win! Nordstrand are just overrated in every aspect...
Night and day difference between the two, spend the extra money and get the blue one, the black one didn't even last a set for me last night and I'm sending it back today for the better model. Great concept and glad to be playing one!
I wanna take a 1500 Multiscale and replace the Nordstrand big splits with one of their humbuckers that fits, and voila I can get at least a portion of Simon Grove's tone
i love everything about these basses, except the scale length :L if they'd've gone with the 37'-34' format they'd have a much more competitive product IMO
i love everything about the fanned frets version except the standard pickup cover shape. on my dingwall combustion 5 i'd keep resting my thumb on the pointy end. quite uncomfortable and indeed they moved on to a round pickup cover shape
I disagree, I think the 33-35" is perfect. I currently play a 33" 5-string and as primarily a guitarist, it feels perfect for me. Heavily contemplating moving to one of these. I have played the Dingwalls with up to 37" multiscale and found them immensely uncomfortable to play.
Bartolini is an American company, based in California. However, many of the affordable Ibanez basses use Bartolini licensed pickups made in the far east.
Barts sound good until you hear the Nords. 😆 I own basses with both and Barts are just not as bright and clear, a bit mellow and not nearly the wide tone variations of Nords.
I got a brand new 2021 Ibanez EBH1005SMS-EMM bass a few days ago. It seems to have a manufacturing defect. When the EQ switch is set to ON, attenuating the Treble Boost/Cut control does nothing. It’s as if that circuit is not connected inside the EQ. I’ve been searching through videos on UA-cam to see if anyone else is commenting about the Treble Boost/Cut control on their EBH1005SMS bass not working, but so far have not found any documentation or demonstration of the issue. Does your EBH1005SMS bass' Treble Boost/Cut control work correctly?
I have the EHB1505 that Nathan is playing. These basses are almost IMPOSSIBLE to restring with two hands. The locking screws in the non-existent headstock have a difficult time holding the string from slipping back out, making the instrument unplayable. Being the screws and hardware are (probably) made of brass, or similar soft materials... they could possible strip out, if too much tension is applied. For an instrument that is well over $1500 USD, I would expect a little better quality. I've addressed this with an email to Ibanez, and have been completely IGNORED. Would NOT recommend this line of basses, unless the purchaser actually has three hands to change strings.

I just got my EHB1505, but not the fan fretted one. Quality control sucks at Ibanez. It's really bad. The nut is terrible, it hasn't been touched at all and the action is too high and no matter what I do, I can't get it near what I want. The truss rod is so tight I can barely move it, it scares me to think I got a lemon. Now the inlays: it's a terrible design to have the inlays offset to the side of the neck, they're so small I can barely see them, hidden by the B string, and some of them are dark which makes them impossible to see. Terrible idea, what's wrong with block inlays??? Now the locking Neutrik jack. mine's so stiff I hurt my finger when I try to push the red button to release the cable. The gig bag is so cheap I'm not going to use it, might as well leave it out of the deal. On the positive side, the bass is very light and comfortable, the neck is fabulous and fast and the electronics are pretty good. If you guys are out there to purchase one of those, check it out carefully BEFORE you pay.
I thought that was Nolly at first glance, haha. Anyway, I was excited about those basses when they first started popping up, but I've changed my mind since. I'm not crazy about the scale length, the Bartolinis (I know the 1500 has Nordstrands, but it's a big price jump, and I actually don't like the finishes/neck/fretboards as much in the Premiums), and last I can't in my right mind endorse any guitar at that price level with a cheap plastic nut. I'm sick of companies doing that.

I really dig the 1000 series personally. James is a great tasty bass player. During the swap he made both basses sound fantastic

I’d love to see you guys host a bit of an interview or just chat about the bass and music in general with Felix Pastorius. That’d be an awesome watch!
What a gorgeous intro groove 👍🏼
@ 12:16, Nathan starts channeling his brother. God bless the King DNA!
There's some weird compression issue going on with your recent bass videos, something doesn't sound right
Both are very interesting. I won't put one over the other. Both sound great.
I suspect the perceived bass drop between the basses would be the positioning of the pickups.
It is pronounced basswood.
Actually, it's basswood.
You’re both wrong, it’s from the ancient “basswood”, so it’s basswood.

ergonomic headless bass
What is the purpose of a headless guitar?
Lighter and limits the numbers of mic stands knock downs on a live stage (according to Geddy Lee)
Its also smaller, strangbergs basses are no bigger than guitars
No neck dive, which would be a risk here since the bodies are chambered i.e. light.
Easier to carry, and transport too!
Keeps tunings longer
