The days before crack blew it all to hell...
Yup, crack was just around the corner, and I was a cocaine dealer who ended up smoking crack in the ghetto
Doesn't look like it was going too great before crack.
The Bay Area has a rich culture. However NY and LA had all the movie studios and record labels to push and showcase their culture around the world. The Bay is a true melting pot of culture. From the Black Panthers and the Hippie movement the Bay is really one of the most unique places in the world…magical almost
Well said
Yup, pretty much grew up around all round the Bay, and these times all but over.
lol at that one black dude thats in every hispanic set.
There was 2 of them, one was lighter, look mixed or puerto rican
@Brandon Taylor all yall need to get up on game man, all hispanic are black at the root. why do you think people in all over south america are dark skinned and speak a spanish, Portuguese etc.
@@AliAliMusic what in the fuck? Spanish and portugese have nothing to do with being black

Back then even.crips and bloods had mexicans in there hoods before that hole racist war started in 2007. Because of a 18 street or ms13 I don't member who but they shot innocent black child in street playing ball in that what pop off even worst they should've just missed with ms13 n 18 because they aint mexican
Way back then CHICANO wasn't a color. Their was alot of mixed race kid's in East Los, some would be brown skinned, white skinned, black skinned, it was all the same to them they were all chicano's, now it's the oppisite people watch to much t.v .

Black and brown pride in Northern California bay area
Kiah Contreras until you get robbed
The Bay has always been about Black n Brown unity starting with the BGF & Nuestra Famillia connection in San Quentin
Thats a northen thing. Nortenos are chicano based but have many whites, blacks and central americans. A lot of these dudes ended up being northerners
This is Oakland history! Thanks for the upload!
That roll call is classic.
Epic.
Good sized crew, especially for that time period. And to think that wasn't even half their gang.

Yeah, it seems like only in L.A. that there seems to be a problem. Even there, from the way it seemed back in the day, it wasn't always like that.
*****
Yeah, thats what they say. They say its the Mexican Mafia, they came out into the streets and pushed their agenda to the street gangs. Yet the street gangs didn't think for themselves and resist; do their own thing. They just want the little crack dollars.
Ok your just saying the same over and over again. This must be your first time trolling

These guys were basically the precursor to today's Nortenos. They were part of the original Oakland Hispanic gangs that in the following decade would go on to become what we today consider Nortenos. The norte vs sur angle hadn't really spilled out onto the streets because it had just crystalized in the late 70s in prisons. Even though the NF/EME were already around for a while up to this point, it wasn't until the late 70s that the Eme's propaganda machine pushed the narrative that NF was a northern organization. This finally split both orgs by geography and varrios followed suit. Before that, people from the south would join the NF. In fact, the NF was founded by mostly southern chicanos and both orgs intermingled with recruits from both sides of califas. And plenty of Northern chicanos were in the Eme as well.
Before this split, street politics were all just based around barrio warfare on the streets of oakland -- free of any references to the norte/sur. But later, vatos who paroled onto the streets and back into their barrios brought the new designation of Norteno with them. In some cities the claiming of norte happened earlier than others. But really, it wasn't until the mid to late 80s that the Norte/Sur thing solidified in the streets and varrios started adding 14s to their names to signify their allegiance to the NF. As the years went on and more surenos set up shop in the bay, this further intensified the need to push the NORTE and X4 on the streets. There was now something to emphasize it against.
lamota14 ok pocho
lamota14 copy and pasted uh ? lol
finally some knowledge on the movement
That was honestly the most well-informed comment that has to with gang-bangin
lamota14 nigga varrio ssl since 80's concord califas and theres few other up state sureno varrios from the bay
I was searching for gang documentaries. I'm glad that I found this, I know this old but it still cool. Back in the day when you didn't need a gun to protect your self. Also when people respected funny names like "loco frijole" haha. I actually met someone named "frijolero" back in school in 1993
Rollerz leader that's my generation foo
@ 0:44 🤣😂
Back then we had to watch out for knives, sticks, poles, rocks. Many of us were smart enough to know the consequences of having a gun on the streets.
You're talking out your ass.. literally not even a minute in you see a gun followed by "you move, I'll blow your head off your shoulder"
Didn’t need a gun back then ??…almost everyone was getting shot in the doc lol…late 70s/ early 80s is when the guns started coming out. The doc obviously shows this
the mother of the parkin boys died a few years after this was a made in a car accident and carlos aka bean is still alive not sure what he's up to these days and his brother dancing dan passed away recently .....
A lot of people passed away in this video including my Dad, and Uncle's.

Love how the Bell of the Catholic Church tolls right as Mr. Chico is introducing the Barrrio at the beginning of the Roll Call. Perfect f*cking timing ese. (2:36)
The bay is so much more like ny in a lot of ways. From the funk in the graffiti to mixture of races in crews and gangs.
Anyone know of the Bearquivers from 55-60s ? Or have any info on them??
Where can i find a copy of this or one in good quality???
I was able to get an original dvd copy directly from the production company , Quest productions. This was like more than 10 years ago so don’t know if they’re still around though. Try googling Quest productions in Berkeley , CA👍
This footage is awesome.
when you could smoke in the hospital lol
@ChicanoTattooArt Actually in the Bay Area we have been wearing Ben Davis since the 70s we started that style out here because Bens are made in San Francisco. i used to wear Ben Davis in 1988 89 90 etc and Derby Jackets and Winos back then. my Older Brother used to wear Bens back in the late 70s and early 80s. maybe where your from they didn't wear them in the 80s and 90s but in the Bay area we where wearing them for a long time.
@bago510 from where did you get the documentary and where can I watch the whole thing
Sjsn
I still wear it💯
The word "ese" wasn't a scrapa word back in the day...Tejanos from the Syndicate used it to identify each other...They would say what's up ESE? are you an ESE? That meant are you in the Syndicate? Chicanos picked it up from them...We Chicanos picked up a lot of our style from the Tejano.
Yea and it all got fuked up when busters started saying ENE what the fuk
Before texas became a wannabe Norte
@@agambino4807 what’s that?
The word scrapa was actually created by Sureños first, they used to say it to each other and towards Norteños

Why is super mario beating a guy up in the start of the video?
Watching this was kind of nostalgic…I was born in 82 and watching this makes me wish we could go back in time before all the social media & technology BS but, then again without social media, we couldn’t watch these cool old documentaries to remember how life used to be 😢

@Zyworski i grew up in and around Jingletown on E7th st and on Chapman st . and the area was mostly Latino but i do know that in the 30s and 40s that was a Portuguese area . belive it or not the Original Mexican area of Oakland was in West Oakland it was a small Barrio by 7th st and around Market and Clay st but it was mostly destroyed by the construction of the 880 freeway and the Bart . this was back in the 1920s 30s and 40s .
Correct. Jingletown and surroundings was Portuguese. Hence the portuguese influence till this day with their festivities.
