Probably because back then they had nothing else to do with their free time and now with tech people are smarter and would rather watch videos, research or keep up with what is trending than go out and kill people because they drew a line through a name....

I really feel lucky to be raised by parents that taught my brothers and I to look at everyone no matter what color they are the same.
my mom had a brown and white egg then cracked it open to show us that we are all the same inside and it's wrong to judge.

“If you wish to destroy an area, how do you do it? Well there are two ways: you can go in there and bomb it and so forth,
but that is not very efficient. What you do is you try to get the people in that area to kill each other and to destroy their own
territory, their own farms, and that’s what’s been done in that area. So, the way in which you destroy an opponent, is get him
to destroy himself, by dividing his ranks against one another.”

ANA Lizarraga killed: , 13 May 1992 (aged 49) , was a technical adviser and had a small part in the Latino gang film "American Me," was shot execution-style last Wednesday in her driveway on Lancaster Avenue. Two men with stockings over their heads apparently waited for her to step outside her house and then fired several times at her from less than 10 feet away. (Taken from the article in May 1992).

One certainty is that JD’s character was way superior than Miklo’s. I don’t know if that was script purposes, or because William Forsythe is straight up a boss. LoL.

It’s been a while since I’ve watched it, but what I do remember is thinking that American Me resonated and held more weight with me after watching it. Like I said, it’s probably just bias mainly due to nostalgia.
Do you have a specific example as to why “American Me” is inferior to “Blood In, Blood Out”? A lot of people say it’s because it’s too sentimental at times, and there’s cringe moments. Do you agree with that? (But I’ll argue that you could say the same about “BI, BO” in that regard as well.)

First of all, Olmos did not properly ask the permission of the gang bosses to make this movie, and have characters that were based on real life. He actually lied about getting the OK. Then he got way in over his head with creative liberties. Rodolfo Cadena (the real-life Santana) was not really raped in Juvie. It was also not true that he ended up being murdered by his own crew. The hit was carried out by rival Nuestra Familia. It was true however that at the time his significance in La Eme was diminishing. At any rate, people got murdered because of these, and Olmos had contract for years

Bottom line is people create their own paths and choose to live a good life or a life of destruction! There is no easy way for the majority of us, you either make the choice to educate yourself and build a life, or choose to blame circumstance and what you don't or didn't have as an excuse for not doing the right things? Life is hard no matter how much you have or don't have and it's much more difficult to be part of the solution than it is being the problem? proving everyone wrong is one of the sweetest victories in life and sets an example for other family and friends...
