    This is a step-by-step video on how to install the Blum Tandem plus Blumotion Undermount drawer slides.
    I’ll be using undermount drawer slides on the Chest of Drawers project that I’m starting next week. I thought it would be a good idea to take a minute and build my skills with this shop cabinet. I hope you found this video helpful and if you are looking for a furniture project to build, check out my website and take a look at my professional Woodworking project plans.
    Have a great day, Jon

    I got these massive two drawers built for kitchen cabinet. They are 1/2" ply including the bottom because of the 40"span. I opted for heavy duty bottom mount Blum slides. The instructions were ridiculously complex. I watched this video twice and now the drawer is mounted in. This is the best tutorial I found on UA-cam. Hands down.

    Finally somebody on UA-cam made Blum drawer boxes without those silly notches, every video I see someone do a notch I tell them this method in hopes someone will try it. I've been using Rob Cosman as a example but now I can recommend this video.

      @tylernettestad 3 роки тому

      If you construct your drawer boxes with the front and back between the sides (like in Jons example), you only need one measurement regardless of the thickness of the material you use. The measurement is the opening width minus 42mm (1-21/32").

    While making inset drawers and using 15 inch undermount drawer slides, does the entire drawer including the drawer front need to equal 15 inches?

    • @bob81pizza
      @bob81pizza 2 роки тому

      No, not unless you want to see the drawer slides. You still need a false front which fits the opening almost perfectly. Then your drawer itself is mounted the thickness of the front back so the false front ends flush with the face frame. But the drawer box is 15" then plus the thickness of your false front which will fit the opening.

    Are undermount slides easier to install than side mount slides? Or just different?

    • @nathanmitchell4839
      @nathanmitchell4839 3 роки тому +1

      Different I'd say, both ways are easy with the right method, his method is close to the easiest way, undermount slides support the drawer bottom so if you want to be cheap you can use thin drawer sides, the drawer sides are just keeping the front square so technically you could make them narrow but not so much that the front isn't supported square, I did a 49" wide bank of 3 drawers with one shelf in my closet with a sheet of 3/4 and 5/8 melamine this way, the normal way requires three sheets.

      He only cut the dado on the rear part of the drawer. He does this as opposed to cutting the notches.

    • @utubewillyman
      @utubewillyman 6 місяців тому

      @@alfredonski Yeah I get that. But why cut the rear dado in the first place? He measures the dado after cutting it, and it's top edge comes to 8 5/8" from the top of the drawer. But he could have measured one of the other 3 dadoes and then just made the same cut without ever having to cut the rear dado. It's not a big deal but I was genuinely trying to figure out if there was a reason for doing it that way.

    • @alfredonski
      @alfredonski 6 місяців тому

    • @utubewillyman
      @utubewillyman 6 місяців тому

      @@alfredonski I think I figured it out. He works efficiently, like a factory. So he actually cuts his dado into a very long piece of wood, like 4 feet long, or maybe even 8 feet. Probably makes multiple long dadoed strips this way, enough to make many many drawers. Then he crosscuts all the long strips into pieces of the right dimensions. Then just before assembly, he cuts the dado off where he doesn't need the dado.

    how to calculate minimum interior depth the cabinet has to be? you did not cover this off. essential for one to get the right length of drawer slides in the first place. Describe for the overlay door please, you said build drawer length 15 inches total length for 15" slides. That has the drawer front even with the leading edge of the case, from there you put an overlay door on to cover the case edges, ie. door is not inset into the case, it is OVERLAY on to the case leading edges. So min interior cab depth for 15" slides is about 15 1/2" to give 1/2" space at the back between the end of the slide and the cabinet back?

  • @brauhze

    Around the 7:23 mark, you say, "'If you're using 3/4 inch sides for your drawer, make the drawer 3/8 inch smaller than your drawer opening. If you're using 5/8 inch sides, like I did here, make your drawer 1/2 inch smaller than your drawer opening. If you're using 1/2 inch material for your sides, make the drawer 5/8 of an inch smaller than your opening." This doesn't make sense to me. The thinner the drawer sides, the -more- ago you need between the drawer and opening? Can you clue me in? (Or did you mis-speak?)
