Hi, I lent my Honda mower with GXV160 to my brother. It was not very old, maybe 1 year old and only occasionally used. He used it to mow his lawn and then mowed over bark from a paper tree. When he brought it back to me, he said it was not running properly. I started it up and it ran very roughly and then finally would not start at all. I took off the air filter and it was completely filled with small paper bark bits. I was going to clean the carburettor, but then the cheap plastic throttle control broke. Not the cable but the control unit. I put it the mower aside after this because I wanted to find a better new control unit that would suit this lawn mower. Ridiculous they put a cheap controller on this lawn mower. Its been almost 2 years. I might give it a try this summer when I will have some free time. Apart from a clean of carburettor and new throttle controller and a change of petrol, is there anything else you would recommend I do? Is there a throttle controller you would recommend for this lawn mower? Thanks for any advice.
Hi Luke, Great video. I've always had good luck with the Gxv carbs never had 1 I couldn't fix. The Gcv's aren't always as successful. I grind that little stop off of that needle with my dremel, I like every little orifice clean. 👍👍🤪
Hi I’ve found the same, your right it’s the gcv which play up more. Also taking that tab off does give a bit more adjustment, even though I find that adjuster doesn’t really make much difference. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
The idle-screw on mine was 4 turns out. Another thing you can do is to insert the slow-jet (black plastic) and spray some carburettor-cleaner through the small hole for air on carburettor. Then you can check if the three small holes (where the throttle-flapper is) and hole for air/fuel mixing-screw is open.
Mine keeps leaking under the tap and all the petrol would be gone nearly before I try to start it would it be best for me to get a new one or clean it again?
Personally I’d try to keep your original carb especially if the mower is running ok, I think you can buy rebuild kits for the taps, are you sure the wavy washer is in place? Hope this helps Thanks for watching 🙂👍
@@menditman2004 well the mower was a repair job I was doing and it did start just after the 1st carb clean it was leaking then the 2nd time got worse so I didn't know what to do. Yes the washer is in place made sure it was.
@@menditman2004 I did fix the carburetor, wavy washer was in wrong place 😅, I've started it now but is very high on the revs any ideas how to lower them back to normal?
