- Picked this Honda GX160 engine up in RUNNING condition, which is strange for this channel. It runs rough so lets try to clean it up and get it back to square!

First thing I do with these Honda is to pull fuel tank, clean it out and replace fuel screen fitting
Now it’s time to work out buggs and carb
That long tube in the carb center is the emulsion tube. The main jet is the little piece with the tiny hole and flat head with threads.
I AllWAYS remove tank and flush it plus replace the tank filter just make sense, hate a return in a couple of weeks 😊
This is awesome video with all the nuances you put in it 👍🏻
Choke lever has a plug for the open fuel hose 🙃
it's a very nice video. My method of cleaning is disassembling all the carburetor parts and even removing the air filter parts, putting them in a perforated container. Then I have it washed in the dishwasher with dishwashing liquid hand soap. There is no oil, rust or dirt left. The dishwasher already does the drying.
That is an extremely interesting way to clean a carburetor.. I’ll have to try that sometime 🤔
Your air cleaner is an oiled foam type. It is meant to be soaked in oil. To clean it use some degreaser to clean the dirty oil out. Squeeze out and let dry then re-oil with filter oil which is avalable at any motorcycle shop.
Great info! I’ll be sure to remember this for the next one. Thank you for sharing 👍🏼
çok güzel video olmuş. Benim temizleme yöntemim tüm karbüratörün parçalarını söküyorum hatta hava filtre parçalarını da söküyorum, onları delikli bir kabın içine koyuyorum. sonra bulaşık makinasının içinde bulaşık sıvı el deterjanı ile yıkattırıyorum. Ne yağ ne pas nede pislik kalmıyor. Zaten kurutmayı da bulaşık makinası yapıyor.

There is a black plastic screw on the left side facing the front. When you unscrew it you can get to another plastic screw. Make sure that the jet is not clogged. That will stop the surging engine.
The grey plastic lever you removed after clamping the fuel line off is the plug for your fuel line. If you look at it you'll see which way it goes!😉
Noted. Thanks for the heads up Jeremy!
Thanks for the advice and it WORKED PERFECT. (HONDA GX390 T1 QAA2)
@@mr.lourod6175 anytime Lou. Thanks for watching!!
But your video will certainly help a few people clean their ethanol /fuel varnished carburetors. Thanks
Thank you Curt! If you have a few minutes, check out some of the newer content I’ve posted. Have been dramatically improving the quality of the vids. Thanks again for watching brother!!

Great video. Gives me confidence to start tackling some basic small engine upkeep, particularly with the carburetor. BTW, was the engine still surging at the end slightly or was that just the audio?
It was the audio. If you get a chance, check out some of the newer videos we have on the channel.. WILD difference in the quality and production. I know you’ll enjoy. Thanks for watching!

Nice video! If I may something, there is also another screw on the left side of the carb that eventually would need to be removed and cleaned.
💯👌🏼
The 1 in the middle is the main jet and the one on top of it is the spray bar and the black jet on top is the air jet and there is a small hole the gets plugged and that is what makes the engine surge up and down
Thank you for the info John 💪🏼
Thanks, Chris did you adjusted the valves? I have a GC 160 the same mine runs great at slower & mid-range. However, at full throttle motor starts to hesitate & backfire will check the valve clearance.
I did not adjust the valves on this but thanks for pointing that out. Oftentimes so overlooked 👌🏼
this is the engine for my go kart
It’s a great little engine!
Same I have this for my go kart also
Well your learning
💯😂
Hi what is the normal state of the kill switch when starting the engine, is the circuit open or closed?
It’s open. Closing the circuit kills the engine
It’s best to remove the pump and then get it running right on all the pumps 😢
Good video, my compactor takes time to start, and once is working it only runs for a minute or less then stops..could it be the spark plug? Any idea
Yes, could be the plug. When it is running, does it surge or sound like it’s struggling?
@@ChrisXOutdoors yes..its compactinh and moving forward and then it just stops moving forward just jumping.. and then stops...
I’d start with the plug. Keep me updated!
@@ChrisXOutdoors thanks
@@GustavoGarcia-gt6fjif you have changed the spark plug and it is still doing this I would check the spark when it cuts out to see if possibly the coil is worn.
Or it could be a swollen float bowl valve needle that it slowing down the rate of fuel entering the float bowl.
Best way to find out if your fuel is coming out slow is to take the fuel bowl off while that carburettor it's still on the engine and see how much your drops out as it should be a considerable amount.
If it is barely coming out I would suggest that could be a blockage or the needle valve is swollen gas stopping the fuel from coming this stopping the fuel from coming out.
I would also look at not consuming animal products as starvation to the brain can cause confusion.
If you do research on how much better a plant-based diet is you will get incredibly smart and fast. I promise you this my friend
hello i had my engine running today cut out and tried to start it and instantly backfired any suggestions
After it sits for a few after backfiring, will it start back up?
You saying hey siri, triggered my siri
😂😂😎
👌
That’s not the main jet. That’s called the emulsion tube.
👍🏼
Running a pump with no water in it, will destroy the seal between engine shaft and impeller face in short order. Usually in less than 1 minute.
Understood. The pump was already shot 😖

@@anonimoporsiempre6033 he was giving him advice but its true on those hondas the mechanical seal will get burnt up within minutes of starting with out water💯

Hi there. I have a brand new honda gx390 engine. When I wnet to start it up, it started at first pull. Then when i moved the choke to the right (off position) it would shut down and stall. It would take me 3 pulls to start it up properly then it would run just fine. I checked the main jet and it was clean! I do mention the gas is a couple months old would that be the problem? The air filter and everything else is clean and fresh oil.
Hi Petru. Thank you for reaching out. The gas could be the problem but I'm not 100% sure without looking at it. So it runs fine now? It just needs 3 pulls to start?
@@ChrisXOutdoors yep pretty much. Gas is around 7 months old
Yeah I'd give it some fresh fuel and see what happens. Wouldn't hurt to swap out the spark plug also. If you do those couple things, let me know how it turns out!
Also China have shut down mining and aluminum will triple in price
That’s why Honda decided to stop push mower business
It’s truly a shame. They made great machines 😔
Looks Like a Trash Pump!Never run a pump with out lubricant, ie Water.
Great video. Just go metric though. Saves you 5 minutes and a calculator
For real 😰😆
Not running water through the pump is not helping it uou properly burned out the seal
Dirty jets
Correct 😎
Forget about it…do the job
trash pump
Or you fill the oil to the full mark on the dip stick why be so dumb about something so easy just so you know I am a small engine mechanic you must me a engineer
Thanks again brother 👏🏼
