I was there too, the concert was on the 18th, not the 19th, and it was at exhibition stadium...and Pouncake was not on this tour...sorry, they played it a few years later on the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tour, at the Molson Ampitheatre. I've seen them many times and won't ever forget it.
@@peterradencich575 *sigh* age undermines my memory. You're right, I saw the 1991 show, which opened with Poundcake. I enjoyed them at 18, and I still enjoy the music and memories at 47.
Alex plays phenomenally here. His passages on toms have this headblowing sincopation behind the beat or how can you call it. it's like tossing heavy weight. And it goes tight with Eddie. that's brothers power.
Yup. He is a very good drummer. It's just the music can't elevate his talent to the max. But he is very supportive in his role as rhythm section with the bass.
The back end of “Don’t Tell Me” just gets me every time. The stretch and hard push to hit those higher notes in the chorus, the BELTED “Hey Hey Heyyyyy!” with wide eyes to the audience… Meanwhile the band is pitch and time perfect to the record… I love the rawness of the early VH records, Fair Warning has the best guitar tone ever out on tape IMO, but Van Hagar was an absolute unit of a live act that put out great records too.
Well oiled machine firing on all cylinders... what love can do is such a fucking awesome song. Even eddies picking on. The bridge in the beginning is ridiculous
I am watching this video the day that Edward Van Halen has now passed away what a tremendous tremendous guitar player definitely a rock God for sure it will be truly missed.
Saw them in 1984 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto - original lineup with Diamond Dave. If I could re-live just one night...that'd be a top contender. Been to hundreds of concerts over the years - and that one easily took the prize.
@@greatexpectations2307 Very true. I only saw that footage once online years ago and then it vanished. There's still footage of the Montreal concert from that tour floatin' around. But gotta remember, those were analog vidcam days...cameras were big 'n bulky (even 8mm hadn't arrived yet in '84) - so it had to be VHS I'd imagine.
I went to both these shows. Went the first night, and the friends I was with realized we had seen something special (that was the night they filmed if I remember correctly). Some of my friends were not as big of fans as I, but we decided to go back the second night. We were on the lawn both nights, but it didn't matter as it was rocking all the way back. Just to note, Our Lady Peace opened the shows (they were okay, but they were much better in smaller venues I had seen them in previously). Great gigs I remember fondly.
Pound Cake was absolutely amazing. Oh my "Don't Tell Me(What Love Can Do). Wow! Really nice to see the guys having fun Rocking. Here in 2020 Eddie had another bout with his throat, so it's really cool to look back to the days when he enjoyed playing with Sammy and Mikey. Eddie really felt the music.

Man Eddie had all the goods, amazing rhythm guitar skills, one of a kind lead guitar improvisation, blues, speed, impeccable sense of melody and harmony. Listen to that solo he plays on Eagles Fly. He plays these solos but never plays anything exactly the same way twice. That was so amazing about him. I reckon this is Van Halen at their peak and I was glad I got to see them in person on the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tour in Belgium. No disrespect to Dave but Sammy was always a better singer on his worst days. Seeing later VH tours with Dave I still loved how the band sounded with Wolfgang and you could see it was a joy for Eddie to play with his son. But half the time Dave was doing his slapstick comedy routine and couldn’t even sing the high notes like he used to. To each their own but it brings a smile and a tear to my eye whenever I hear VH and I think back to how they were an incredible band. We will never see the likes of them again. Great to see Wolfgang forging his own path, what a virtuoso on every instrument. Eddie wasn’t kidding when he would sing his praises about Wolfgang’s musical talents surpassing his. Much respect to him. That pure joy you see when Eddie was playing was infectious and it came out in the music. God bless, Eddie, Alex, Michael, Sammy, Dave and Wolfgang.😎👍👊🤘🤙🇫🇯
You watch this, and you wonder how it all fell apart so quickly after. They seem to be having such an awesome time playing together....of course, they were probably faking the fun party vibes, but it all seems so genuine...and awesome performances too, as if that needs to be said.
I’ve sat with the band when Roth was the singer and when Hagar was the singer. They definitely seemed happier when they were with Hagar. Eddie and Sammy split during a very difficult time in Eddie’s life. I’m sure they both said some harsh things. Eddie just has too big of an ego. With Hagar, it seemed that Eddie and Alex took more of an even role with Sammy and Michael. Sammy and Michael really clicked. I think it was hard for Eddie and Alex to deal with.
Remember like it was yesterday hearing eruption for the first time. I recall couldn’t believing that there was only 1 person playing the guitar. 7 year old me instantly wanted a guitar
Saw this concert at Starlake Amphitheatre in Pittsburgh. They were tight. Prolly in my top 3 concerts of ALL Time !! Our Lady Peace was booed off the stage and Sammy wasn't happy. Broke an attendance record as well.
Thankyou for one helluva quality upload, what a voice and he can play that guitar as well, decent backup band, wish Eddie would get over himself and call Sammy and Mike and beg for their forgiveness \m/
In 2019 I want to see Van Halen with Sammy and Mike. Mike’s voice adds so much more to it and as much as I love all eras of Van Halen Sammy can sing DLR never could.
Great wish Center Reps.... DLR at the beginning was the right singer for the right band but now? A sad caricature of himself. Mike is and has always been a class act. Eddie and Alex top shelf. But Alex and all the drums? Please! There's a lot of rock drummers with giant kits. Neil Peart of Rush, Dream Theaters drummer;Mike Mangini & Mike Portnoy,I could go on. But they use every piece in their kit. I mean Alex....4 Bass Drums? He uses the same toms and cymbals, the rest for show. I'm a 64 year old drummer that's been playing since I was 12. Play with what you use and leave the rest at home for shits sake. (sorry to my fellow drummers that feel differently)
Technically, it's definitely one of the best concerts VH ever did. This version of You Really Got Me is as good as the original recording from Van Halen I.
My favorite band in the world 🎶🎶.... No disrespect to David Lee but it seems like everything that Sammy and Eddie touched turned to gold...and when Sammy came into the picture Eddie, Alex, and Michael’s energy level went to a higher level

One guy did notice it, Sammy with Michael in most of his projects like Chickenfoot (?)
PRAYERS FOR EDDIE VAN HALEN AND HIS FAMILY GET WELL EDDIE VAN HALEN😇
Biggest mistake letting Sammy leave the band. Just watch the concert in Dallas out side what a
Damn, I wish your prayers were answered, 9 months ago, Tim......RIP Eddie.....The GOAT
31 y.o. watching in 2024
Van Halen is the greatest American band of all time 🥰🇺🇲🦅
This rock legend death really hurts... Eddie's talent was gifted from God.
Wow what a show, short but still! Incredible talent! Back when you had to actually be talented to be a celebrity
This is just an edited version. The full show would have been 2 hours. I don't think there is a complete version of this show.
Michael Anthony...for god sake this man is solid!
I saw van halen in this Era. Best concert I ever saw. They were the most talented 4 individuals in one band ever without exception. Every member was a monster at what he did.
Sammy is actually a really great guitar player!!!
Don't forget he had a very long succesful career as a solo artist beforehe joined Van Halen 😏
Eddie's playing was on point!👌
I was there. The show opened with Poundcake, featuring Eddie on drill 🤟. Not the full concert, glad to find it all the same.
Brendan...my bad, this was the concert in the Amphitheater...I was thinking this was in '86...saw them many times...think you were right.
Alex plays phenomenally here. His passages on toms have this headblowing sincopation behind the beat or how can you call it. it's like tossing heavy weight. And it goes tight with Eddie. that's brothers power.
What’s up with his neck brace?
Alex is such a talented drummer! He was just killing it!
Did you know that Alex was the lead guitarist when it all started out and Eddie was the drummer and they flip-flopped it thank goodness they did
Yup. He is a very good drummer. It's just the music can't elevate his talent to the max. But he is very supportive in his role as rhythm section with the bass.
What's with Alex and the neck brace anyway ?
@@judithmagill1449 yes hurt it doing something not sure what
I always felt Alex was the “UNAPPRECIATED ONE”
(VH wouldn’t be the same without him)
He's 48 yrs old here and in top form. Way fkn times better singer than DLR ever dreamed about being.
The back end of “Don’t Tell Me” just gets me every time. The stretch and hard push to hit those higher notes in the chorus, the BELTED “Hey Hey Heyyyyy!” with wide eyes to the audience… Meanwhile the band is pitch and time perfect to the record…
I love the rawness of the early VH records, Fair Warning has the best guitar tone ever out on tape IMO, but Van Hagar was an absolute unit of a live act that put out great records too.
They both brought something different to VH. Loved em both!😊
R.I.P. Eddie
Eddie invented the super strat which is now the best selling style of guitar in the world. Ibanez should be sending Eddie royalties.
RIP Eddie Van Halen. We will always love you. You were the greatest guitarist to ever walk God's green earth
Well oiled machine firing on all cylinders... what love can do is such a fucking awesome song. Even eddies picking on. The bridge in the beginning is ridiculous
The audio for this recording is outstanding!
I am watching this video the day that Edward Van Halen has now passed away what a tremendous tremendous guitar player definitely a rock God for sure it will be truly missed.
Incredible❤️❤️❤️Oh my heart hurts, I want to go back to this era❤️❤️
Honestly that guitar solo Eddie plays over Eagles Fly is beautifully played. Nothing special just hits all the sweet spots
Best VH concert i've seen without a freaking doubt
Alex is like a beast on drums!!!!!
Saw them in 1984 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto - original lineup with Diamond Dave. If I could re-live just one night...that'd be a top contender. Been to hundreds of concerts over the years - and that one easily took the prize.
The video that surfaced of that show doesn't do it justice, but being there, nothing like it.
THE definition of a rock band right there.
Definitely amazing 🥰😍
Still can’t believe we lost Eddie. RIP to a legend 🙏
Sammy's vocals are on key on high notes in this concert. The whole band seems to be super tight that night.
I wish these guys would make a mends and forget about the things that don't even matter.
this is like half the show,, where's the beginning..? : )
Some of the songs missing:
Right Now
Big Fat Money
Top Of The World
Amsterdam
Not Enough
Mine All Mine/Drum Solo
Can’t Stop Lovin’ You
Seventh Seal
Aftershock
Bass Solo
David was the showman.
Sammy was the singer.
Michael is the unsung hero.
Van Halen were luckier than most bands: they had two great lineups.
I feel sorry for the Van Halen brothers, especially Edward, there's clearly issues there, and I'm glad he survived his cancer battle.
I hope he's alright today.
Edit: RIP Edward Van Halen.
Condolences to Mrs Van Halen, Wolfgang, Alex, David, Sammy, Michael and Gary.
An icon has passed, a legend lives on.
If only he was
Thanks again for the video, I've been isolated for 5 days due to positive covid, Van Halen's video is the best way to fill the day.. stay healthy everyone! God bless you Ed.. RIP The King! 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
My neighbours are going to hate me tonight
Melhor banda que o planeta já nos apresentou. indiscutível !!!
Van Halen all the time whatever era Sammy or David..it's all good
Cathedral is so ingenious. EVH was a true innovator.
Hitting their stride as a band, yet falling apart at the seams
Wow....Did I absolutely Love this band! Saw them 40 Times!!!! Only bad one was 04'......Every other one was AWESOME! They were the Gold Standard......The "Bar"......God Bless ya Ed!
Eddie played effortlessly and awesome to the bone!
And Alex playing with a neck brace!!! Damn
When you hear Eddie play...ain't no mistaking who it is.....Sad he and many other great musicians are now gone :)
Sadly the longer you live, the more people you see go...
Never saw some of this stuff b4. Wasn't on the PPV i bought in 1995!
recien estoy escuchando esto , nunca vi nada de van halen . Tocaba bien el chabon , siempre es bueno descubrir algo que escuchar .
16:43 that dude just found out the meaning of life.
Epic music there will never be seventies eighties and nineties bands again in my life time 😢 let there be ROCK
Van Halen The most ultimate Rock Band of all time R.I.P EVH
Saw this concert at Starlake Amphitheatre in Pittsburgh. They were tight. Prolly in my top 3 concerts of ALL Time !! Our Lady Peace was booed off the stage and Sammy wasn't happy. Broke an attendance record as well.
Thankyou for one helluva quality upload, what a voice and he can play that guitar as well, decent backup band, wish Eddie would get over himself and call Sammy and Mike and beg for their forgiveness \m/
He won't.
This version of You Really Got Me is as good as the original recording from Van Halen I.
nothing special, i'll take the kinks any day of the week
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Eagles Fly, too, and many others. Sammy always said Eddie was better north of the border bc obv. Love Eddie and all of 'em.
My favorite band in the world 🎶🎶.... No disrespect to David Lee but it seems like everything that Sammy and Eddie touched turned to gold...and when Sammy came into the picture Eddie, Alex, and Michael’s energy level went to a higher level
