Don't have the words to describe the loss of Eddie. Growing up in the 80s when Van Halen came about... so many guitarists could only dream and aspire to be half of what Eddie done for all of us.. We will miss you..!
I see four guys having a blast on stage, playing a kick ass rock and roll show. It is a shame where music is at today. Somebody playing music off a mac book can become more famous than a guy who can sing, play guitar, play keyboard, and play any other necessary instrument .

The good news is, there are still plenty of good rock bands out there touring for living and playing killer shows. You just gotta get out there and check 'em out - which admittedly i'm doing less and less of, but once in awhile see a killer show in person and am reminded it's still out there..
Yeah but some people might not have a band. If you do all this yourself and only need to virtually program drums into your song, if the song's good then so be it, band or not.
When I first saw this video and the dueling solo in "There's Only One Way to Rock," I thought to myself that this is the future of Van Halen. Two guitars - a whole new dynamic to the music. Much to my chagrin... it didn't happen.

I got SO MANY great tickets at M&M! Connie always held her best for me for some reason. For this show I used my local scalper, a guy named Randy Weiss. I had to pay for them, but I always had great seats to any show. Seeing Randy Bachman and BTO as the opening act really made my night.
can’t discredit some modern bands, there’s some insane bands out there today, foo fighters, dream theatre, avenged sevenfold, slipknot, the lot, all amazing
I grew up listening to Van Halen and saw them multiple times in concert, including on this tour. I’ve got an empty pit in my stomach knowing I will never get to see Eddie or Van Halen perform live again. It hurts seeing that signature smoldering cigarette perched in his guitar. F cancer. Rest In peace, Eddie.
Jesus, this is mind-blowing energy, Michael Anthony just owns backing vocals forever, massive Halen fan that had sadly never seen this performance in full until today. Absolutely beautiful x
It's timeless and a masterpiece!!!!! My favorite part is that it's without David Lee EGO!!!!!!! Probably too busy staring at himself in the mirror 🪞😂 LMAO!!!!!!??????
... Yes, he's one helluva basists I love watching. 🎸😍 I read somewhere that M Anthony was paid somewhat equivalent to some hired musicians and not actually as VH member should get paid. I don't know how true it is but if so then, really feel sorry for him😢..
I’m always blown away that they opened up with a Sammy song !!! I think it was the ultimate sign of respect to Sammy. And they rocked the hell out of an already hell rockin’ song !!! Van Hagar for the win!!!
Why would they need to show respect to Sammy? They hired him, didn’t they? Would’ve been much cooler to open up with a song from 5150, but I guess it would be odd to open with a new song.

In 1985, my mom broke up with her boyfriend at the time. They had a pair of tickets for this band called “Van Halen” and I was invited to take the spare. My mind was blown and music was never the same for me after. RIP my hero Edward. Hope you know how many lives you affected.
What a completely fucking unstoppable band. They had the chops AND the party. Every show is a Friday night workout. Those days are long gone in music. Rest in peace Eddie.
Saw them in Atlanta this year. Such memories. i was such a huge Van Halen AND Sammy fan. When they got together I was in heaven. At one point Michael's amp went out and Sammy went over to help fix it. For 15-20 minutes we were entertained with a long Guitar Drum improv duet. So amazing. RIP Eddie. We are all mourning your loss. 2020 sucks
The same happened in Detroit only it was Eddie's rig that went out during the middle of Panama. The rest of the band just improvised a little jam while the techs worked on Eddie's rig.
I got a dubbed copy of this concert from my uncle Dave when I was 12. My lil brother and I watched this concert hundreds of times together, singing dancing and playing air guitar! My brother Jeremy and My uncle Dave will greet Eddie with open arms! I will sit here and watch this show alone in tears remembering all 3 of them!
I unexpectedly got to go see Van Halen in Toronto in 82. I had heard Hendrix and page and rhoads and all the rest and never wanted to play the guitar but after that show I had to. It was the coolest most exciting thing I ever saw. I can't imagine how much trouble listen to Van Halen records kept me out of but it must have been a lot. Few things were more exciting than hearing a new Van Halen record on the radio. Thanks Ed. Rest in peace. Prayerfully you're smiling now as much as you were during Live Without a Net
I don't know of any other guitarist that played with more joy! Always had a smile on his face as he was jamming! Geez I miss this dude! We lost a great one when Eddie passed!
I was born at Yale New Haven hospital. 1984 was my first ever concert. I was 10. I was instantly hooked on VH. Was lucky enough to be there for this show, and man... This is Eddie at his best, if you ask me. Guy was not only one of the best guitar players of all time, but his energy was always amazing & upbeat. Watching this today for the first time in probably 15+ yrs, and I'm just enjoying how much all the guys are smiling and having a blast doing what they all loved. Thanks for ALL of the amazing years and material you left behind for the world Eddie. There will never be another❤ RIP LEGEND
Still can’t believe it... I’m just glad that we all got to be alive at the same time as the greatest guitar player ever and just how lucky we are to say that. Rest easy Eddie Van Halen
Yes, and "Love Walks In" showed they could play on a higher level...Ed playing keyboards, because he wanted to...and Sammy competently playing the guitar parts for the song, all while singing to the highest standards....
Eddie's mouth is always agape because his Guitar is acting like an external extension of his vocal chords. So much human emotional expression going from this man's brain to the Guitar.
THERE'S NO DOUBT THIS IS THE BEST VAN HALEN CONCERT, SIMPLE THE BEST, SOMETHING FROM THE GOD, ED IS JUST A GENIUS , HIS BEST PERFORMANCE. I LOVE VAN HALEN!
I memorized ever word to this concert as a kid. And swore 1 day I'd be there. I didn't make it to New Halen but I made it onto the Fresno concert film. I'd give anything to go back to that show. Back to those days. Rock on
Eddie's got to be the greatest guitar ist of all time...his catalogue would beat anyone hands down. Jimi Hendrix or any of the top players is nowhere close to Eddie. Vibrant, high energy, happy, fun, great vibe n tone. Amazing work with Sammy Hagar. King Edward Van Halen! God bless!
When this first came out I went and bought the VHS, a 2-liter of Dr. Pepper, and way too much of my favorite pizza and had a VH party all to myself! 👍🏾
And I saw this Van Halen show live at Alpine Valley Music Theater, it truly was a magical time. Also saw Chicago, Journey, and my favorite band Boston, went to all 3 Boston shows, and met drummer Jim Masdea, and the man himself Tom Scholz at the resort they were staying at. The picture of me & Tom is still proudly displayed in my music recording studio.
The greatest concert filmed in America by the greatest American rock ‘n’ roll band of all time and a great little city of New Haven fantastic and I was there to witness it with my brother my mother and my two cousins amazing my family catered the show for Van Halen. We didn’t get to meet them, but it was fantastic, what a memory👏🏽😘👏🏽🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
When I was 3-4 years old, my parents would let me play this in the VCR some nights. I would pretend to be both Sammy and Eddie by myself in the living room while my folks smoked pot and decompressed from their day. To this day, I still love Van Halen, and they have imprinted a love of rock and metal as a whole, deep in my soul.
The good ol' days are just about gone. All we got our the memories and videos on UA-cam. Nothing else in 2days music or the next 3 generations will ever be close to this kinda Rock n Roll. Sucks getting old..
It always blows my mind to see Eddie and band playing so flawless completely off the rails HIGH on booze, blow and who's knows what else. Most of us mere mortals would be totally exposed.
Scott Bland So you’re trying to convince people that the audio from this concert is not the actual audio but was re-recorded in the studio. Okay...well...all I can say to that is bullshit. You are wrong. “Well documented” lol,get outta here dude.
Scott Bland “well documented” hahaha let’s see some sources cited if you’re gonna throw around accusations like that... burden of proof is on the hater
I doubt there is all that much dubbing here, although the audio is likely cut from more than one show. This is done with classical concerts as well. You got 2-3 nights of shows and with a band this tight, that’s all you need. Just mix and release with maybe a patch here or there for microphone dropouts. pretty much as advertised: Live without a net. Ed was a wild man, but he was a preternaturally good live player. Amazing sense of pulse - like a great conductor. And he and Al were blue collar types who were constitutionally unable to put out a sloppy record.
Had this concert recorded on vhs as a kid, bought it on DVD in my 20's, and surprisingly haven't broken UA-cam with as many times I've watched it. One of the greatest of all time.
I have not watched this concert video for more than 20 years. What a great band - what talent and energy. Rest in peace Edward, rest in peace. You are missed by those who know what you have contributed to our lives. You will be missed but never forgotten. Your music will live on
I was at this show in New Haven, they played 2 nights in the summer of '86. I saw the 1984 tour, these two shows had a completely different energy. Much happier, big energy, Ed was on fire. I'm gonna miss him so much.

To me, yngwie and Ed are the two greatest to ever do it. The technicality and creativity is something so little people have which makes these two the best to me
You are brilliant!!!
Man, I still feel like I'm at a Van Halen concert when I watch this. I can't believe the King is gone. RIP Edward. Chokes me up so much. Love to VH Universe....
I'm right there with you!!
It's great to see them back when they were so full of energy, jumping around having a blast together.
You mean, when cocain was affordable and not shitty like today
cocaine snorting amazing van halen
@@benoitfecteau495
Yes this is true.It was so great during those 2-3 decades wasn't it?? Still fascinates me how regardless of which city/town Van Halen would arrive/play a show in,they would never have a problem scoring drugs, unless their bus was stocked up with enough to last an entire tour.
+Will Pable the bullcrap made by people that are making money from stupid crap that doesn't deserve to be called a 'profession', it's just getting money for being alive, which is absolute b.s. The people with true talent deserve more attention than all the other bullshitters out there.
Captain Pie Fox And I would bet my ridiculous salary that a handful of MacBook “musicians” has sampled more that their fair share of any one of these songs for their work.
People today pay 300 dollars to watch someone hit the spacebar on a macbook..
When I first saw this video and the dueling solo in "There's Only One Way to Rock," I thought to myself that this is the future of Van Halen. Two guitars - a whole new dynamic to the music. Much to my chagrin... it didn't happen.
my first concert as a 15 year old kid... my mother took us !! she knew we loved VH and picked up tickets in danbury, ct ..m&m tickets. the cost.... $18-20 mark up included. Thanks Mom !! RIP eddie.,,... you and my brother who was at this show are in the HEAVENS now.....
WOW 😳 that's awesome man!!!!!!!!!
@@brentonyancheck4861 ... And Today woulda been my brothers 50th bday !! 12/29/72 ... So, LIVE LONG AND PROSPER .. that show was great, the roar of EVH's guitar at the shows opening ( not on video) is memorable to then 14 yr old ears !
I was also at this show. Awesome concert and also got the tickets from M&M tickets. Really good seats right on the side of the stage.
I got SO MANY great tickets at M&M! Connie always held her best for me for some reason. For this show I used my local scalper, a guy named Randy Weiss. I had to pay for them, but I always had great seats to any show. Seeing Randy Bachman and BTO as the opening act really made my night.
How come awesome bands like this one can't last forever?
Most bands can only dream of being this good!!!
E-G-O!!!
can’t discredit some modern bands, there’s some insane bands out there today, foo fighters, dream theatre, avenged sevenfold, slipknot, the lot, all amazing
This is easily one of the greatest rock shows in the history of mankind!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
One of the best moments: 31:56 - the 'walk' during best of both world intro!
1:24:58
You ready to march!?
Absolutely love it.
Looks like the part from friends with Joey, Ross and Chandler hahaha
I couldn't agree with you more!!!!!
The dueling guitar solos between Eddie and Sammy from 3:18 - 4:30 was, is, and will always be one of the best live moments in rock history.
Check out Billy Sheehan and Steve Vai’s duel during DLR’s Eat Em And Smile tour
I admit I always forget that Sammy was no slouch on the guitar. Sure he wasn’t as good as Eddie, but the dude could play.
@@robjgolde3221 can play* dude still rocks in 2022
Tour was pretty epic. Glad I was able to catch that one!
Yes I agree that's to legends on stage!! R.I.P Eddie Van Halen
Jesus, this is mind-blowing energy, Michael Anthony just owns backing vocals forever, massive Halen fan that had sadly never seen this performance in full until today. Absolutely beautiful x
James Jordan-Davies Definitely go see Sammy and The Circle.Awesome show!
It's timeless and a masterpiece!!!!! My favorite part is that it's without David Lee EGO!!!!!!! Probably too busy staring at himself in the mirror 🪞😂 LMAO!!!!!!??????
Yes , great concert. Is it really necessary though , to take the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ in vain ?
@@ScottGarland-r4vyes it is
Michael Anthony cannot be duplicated - best harmonies in any band, ever
That bass solo was absolutely deafening live.
... Yes, he's one helluva basists I love watching. 🎸😍
I read somewhere that M Anthony was paid somewhat equivalent to some hired musicians and not actually as VH member should get paid. I don't know how true it is but if so then, really feel sorry for him😢..
Although his backups vocals cannot be denied, I beg to differ. 4-part harmonies at the speed of light! ua-cam.com/video/zCv9u7TkM0M/v-deo.html
yes he got fucked over pretty good when they got back together in the early 2000s
I almost agree - Edge for me; but indeed amazing pocket basssist and crazy range backing vocalist.
Undoubtedly, the best version of VH. The entire world would line up for this reunion.
I’m always blown away that they opened up with a Sammy song !!! I think it was the ultimate sign of respect to Sammy. And they rocked the hell out of an already hell rockin’ song !!! Van Hagar for the win!!!
Absolutely 💯
Van Halen, for lack of a better word, blossomed when Sammy walked in.
Why would they need to show respect to Sammy? They hired him, didn’t they? Would’ve been much cooler to open up with a song from 5150, but I guess it would be odd to open with a new song.
A killer opening. If you have a band your band should come out this strong.
@@ewm335 One way to Rock, C`mon dude, cant go wrong with the name of the song, much less a killer version of it to kick things off! Of course, you gotta bring it after that......
Am I the only one that thinks it's super cool that they opened with a Sammy song?
Considering it's a Van Halen concert, I don't think it's too cool, but that's just my opinion. They actually opened with "You Really Got Me" on this tour. Not sure why it got cut from the DVD.
@@nedney119 They actual did open with One Way To Rock at this show if I remember correctly. Different set lists most likely. No idea why they cut YRGM from the video though, as I do remember them playing it.
@@vinniebredice7810 Funny thing, I was just discovering real rock and roll when this came out and I spent a month looking for the VH album with that song before realizing Sammy had 10 years of solo albums before this. Oh the pre-internet glory days when you had to scour record stores and magazines for info lol
@@fuzzo73 they prob cut yrgm cos its a kinks song and they already had rock n roll on this, prob to do with royalty rates on the live vhs when cutting up the pie
@@neillp3827 yup, for sure had to do with licensing and royalties
In 1985, my mom broke up with her boyfriend at the time. They had a pair of tickets for this band called “Van Halen” and I was invited to take the spare. My mind was blown and music was never the same for me after. RIP my hero Edward. Hope you know how many lives you affected.
Damn, I was born in the wrong freaking decade. It is truly rare to find this kind of passion in modern music. Glorious.
Born just alil bit too late huh lol I feel the same way
I still bump this stuff out of car's sound system and sub like it just came out. Not a sight you see at all even when it 28 year old playing
yeah we just had to get a record or tape as soon as they were released and listen to them over and over and share the ❤️ every body wants some
What a completely fucking unstoppable band. They had the chops AND the party. Every show is a Friday night workout.
Those days are long gone in music. Rest in peace Eddie.
here I go again for the 1,890 time , need my 5150 fix lol
fuck you
no thanks
May Christ Jesus bless you!
christopher perry I don't know were I'm goin'... But I sure know were I've been...
totally
This is inarguably the best live concert ever recorded, and Michael Anthony is the most underrated backup vocalist of all time.
Try the first "Grand funk Railroad" live album, 1970....
And Alex VH is perhaps one of the most underrated drummers of all time.
@@TheRMSU1 I meant video captured
The Song Remains The Same is amazing as well
My Favorite!!
This video is such a joy to watch. This is 4 guys who are truly happy to be playing music together.
I was at this concert it probably was the best concert I have ever seen
I was there too,and it WAS an amazing show!
I can't imagine how much trouble listen to Van
Halen records kept me out of but it must have been a lot. Few things were more exciting than hearing a new Van Halen record on the radio. Thanks Ed. Rest in peace. Prayerfully you're smiling now as much as you were during Live Without a Net
ALWAYS play brother Everyday!!!!!!!!!
The way eddie looked at sammy on the guitar solo for love walks in is everything 🔥
This is hands down the best version of that song. Sammy’s guitar leads were perfect.
2020 lost another GOAT. EVH will forever be the greatest guitar player. Love and miss ya man.
Rest In Power, EVH!!! Grew up with this VHS playing loud in the house.
Agree Bro. So sadly day . Respect from Lugo, Spain
Me too, I wired the VCR to the Panasonic stereo and turned it to 11
My mom bought this on vhs for my 10th birthday back in 86 best present ever! Thank you mom!
I don't know of any other guitarist that played with more joy! Always had a smile on his face as he was jamming! Geez I miss this dude! We lost a great one when Eddie passed!
Nothing like a Saturday night being home listening to the greatest rock n roll band and the best live concert in my opinion.
We will never see concerts or concert films as epic as this. I remember when this aired on MTV. So many memories.
I can never get enough of the Best of Both Worlds intro!
There will never be another❤
RIP LEGEND
Still can’t believe it... I’m just glad that we all got to be alive at the same time as the greatest guitar player ever and just how lucky we are to say that. Rest easy Eddie Van Halen
God bless you Edward now it's my turn to kick back with a cold beer and listen to the greatest guitar player ever....
Till next time.
RIP Edward! Forever one of my favorite concerts! Playing this for you today Brotha!
MY FAVORITE CONCERT OF ALL TIME.
This is one band I was so thankful to see perform live. R.I.P. Eddie
It’s been 35 yrs ago tonight! We miss ya buddy! RIP Eddie
This video was my bible back in the 80's! One of the greatest Live performances of ALL TIME!!! RIP EDDIE! My Hero!
My dad killed himself a few years ago. I watch this concert in his memory. A true rock and roll fan. Like father, like daughter.
😢 Omg, so sorry to hear that 🙏💕
These guys were at the absolute top of their game here. Sammy brought a higher level of musicianship and integrity. All killer no filler.
Yes, and "Love Walks In" showed they could play on a higher level...Ed playing keyboards, because he wanted to...and Sammy competently playing the guitar parts for the song, all while singing to the highest standards....
I'm impressed w/ Sammy on guitar. Wow!
I'm worn out just watching these guys. Incredible energy from start to finish.
RIP EVH- We love you
Eddie's mouth is always agape because his Guitar is acting like an external extension of his vocal chords. So much human emotional expression going from this man's brain to the Guitar.
Have you ever seen Stevie Ray Vaughan play? 😂😂😂
this was Van Halen at their best! so much damn energy coming off that stage!
THERE'S NO DOUBT THIS IS THE BEST VAN HALEN CONCERT, SIMPLE THE BEST, SOMETHING FROM THE GOD, ED IS JUST A GENIUS , HIS BEST PERFORMANCE. I LOVE VAN HALEN!
I was there and yes it hurts big time but thank god we have these videos to look back on the greatest guitarists of all time
I remember renting this 📼 and when I saw the date it was played and recorded I thought it was so cool it was the day after my 12th birthday.
I am still doing that all these years later..Awesome show.
This is such a magical performance.
The reason it is flawless is because they completely rerecorded it in the studio. Been well documented. Great video nonetheless. 😉
I saw this Tour in Colorado and I doubt they used any Studio tape for that show!
The man who made me pick a guitar...the concert that I watched until the vhs tape gave in.... thanks EVH...GRYS....
I have not watched this concert video for more than 20 years. What a great band - what talent and energy. Rest in peace Edward, rest in peace. You are missed by those who know what you have contributed to our lives.
You will be missed but never forgotten. Your music will live on
I use to rent this on VHS back in the 80's...
I still have it on VHS. Wish they would remaster it and make a Blu-Ray.
At least this was released on DVD in 2004. I've got that.
I got it on vhs for free at a thrift store
I bought it and still have it.
Imagine sayin rent VH on VHS 10x fast haha
Had to comeback to watch this amazing concert. RIP Eddie Van Halen you inspired so many guitarists around the world you will never be forgotten.
This show awoke up my love for performing on stage
Ed was really on top of his game here...
Mark Spinello the dude is an absolute beast !
He was at the height of creative and technical power, no doubt about it.
#forget2002-2006
They all were
Thought this was as tight as it gets...and having a blast doing it!
I was at this show in New Haven, they played 2 nights in the summer of '86. I saw the 1984 tour, these two shows had a completely different energy. Much happier, big energy, Ed was on fire.
I'm gonna miss him so much.
I got to see Eddie play live 3 times,my life is better for it. I miss this guy so much. RIP King. They'll never be another like you.
The greatest piece of concert footage to ever be captured on video...
Great concert! Not an over abundance of lighting or effects. Just incredible talent and energy. These folks got their money’s worth!
The chemistry of the band turned them into solid gold. They were having fun drawing energy from each other and the crowd. One of the best live concerts ever.
My favorite concert video!
