Solution 1-I don't have the configure device option under hardware and sound. Solution 2-Under troubleshoot, I don't have that hardware and devices option. And for Solution 3-I don't have the upper filters option either. WTH?!?! UGGHHH! I don't have the lower filter option either. I am here on Monday, 12/5/2022 at 9:19 p.m. Please tell me you still check your notifications. I could truly use your help. I am trying to play a cd, a walgreens photo cd to be exact and it just won't play. I've tried to play it in a playstation 4, and a playstation 5. Still nothing.

click on Devices. If the “Devices” section doesn’t open, try the following: Restart Windows Explorer (you can do this by opening Task Manager, finding Windows Explorer, and restarting it). Try to Re-register the Action Center via PowerShell:
Open Command Prompt as an administrator then run the following command:

OK, so far as of today, I bought a LG slim portable DVD writer LG GP63EX70 from my local Walmart for $26. I plugged it in via USB and did not install any of the included software and my PC detected it right away and worked perfectly installing an ancient game I have laying around here. My guess is an update to windows made my installed drives useless but either the mother board cables or the sockets they plug into. I will mess with those later. My pc is still using the same driver as the drives in my tower also.

From the moment my DVD drive lost its letter/disappeared, I worked "backwards" to reverse changes. I removed recent hard drive additions, and changed the letters of the new drives so they would not take the letter originally assigned to the DVD. Yes, I used even Windows Troubleshooting, but the options were vague and the remedies offered were obscure and impractical. Troubleshooting merely reminded me to do what I already had done by uninstalling, then reinstalling the device driver.
Now, turning to the registry. At 5:11, I found no "upper filters" or "lower filters" item.
On navigating to Hardware Manager, once again uninstalling the driver, I reloaded the driver, and a subpanel message indicated "This device is working properly". Yet, it was not working, and did not appear among system hard drives.
An internet search with the actual string representing the device (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NSB0 SCSI CdRom Device) brought the message the driver could not be found. That meant the end of the search, unless I can locate the manufacturer and attempt to find a driver through the OEM.
For this reason, Windows Troubleshooter is only a "bleh"-grade tool, and hardly worth much time invested.

Just a guess, but can you remove your optical drive, reboot into no-optical-present mode, then shut down, reinsert the optical, and hope your optical is detected?

@@bobgreene2892 I like your suggestion, out of all I found online since the original problem started in 2019. That is something I’ve never done before. “Reboot into no optical mode” is that an actual stated option found in bios or is it the label of your suggestion in terms of the procedure you said to perform? My last resort idea is to actually rebuild the windows program portion of “F: CD/DVD Drive” just to get it to show up normally in software manage. I’ve found out on Microsoft forums that Windows 10 itself is the reason why the CD/DVD Rom Drive is missing. And the only solution is to roll back to windows 7

@@corygardner3945 First, verify the device (last active in 2019) is still functional by removing it and testing the drive in another laptop. If the drive is OK (the test Windows host may detect the device and load its driver) then your problem laptop may benefit from OS reinstallation. Since you probably have important data involved, consider installing the same version and edition of Windows over itself,
which might save your data and RE-register your drive.
      * no-optical mode is not a BIOS menu item, but merely the configuration of your machine during reboot.

@@bobgreene2892 the cd/dvd rom still functions, physically. But nothing on the screen reflects whatever is going on. I’ve already reinstalled windows 10 with Microsoft support 2 different times and they couldn’t figure out what was going on back then, because the desired result didn’t happen. Your initial advice on here is what I need to do, I’ll also take the advice of installing the (internal) cd/dvd rom on a different laptop, if I can find one. I hope the solution is not installing windows 7 (rolling back to) as that is the only remedy described on the Microsoft forums and is counterintuitive in my case. Thank you for your responses.

My grandmothers computer (Acer Aspire 6930 running Windows 7 Ultimate) had the same issue. I opened the device manager and looked for the cd rom driver (mine is Slimtype DVD-A driver) and uninstalled the driver and restarted the computer and it automatically reinstalled and it worked for a while but it happened again and as of right now every time I try to uninstall and reinstall the driver it keeps saying it can’t recognize the dvd driver. I could tell there was something wrong with that driver because now when I try to put a disc in the green light flashes and I hear the beep like normal but now the fans kick on full blast and the dvd rom makes a sort of click noise and just stops and the fan rpm goes back down and now the computer overheats and just shuts down unless I take the battery out and run it on the charger without the battery.

Wiow! None of this is working for me: Bottom Line: The DVD RW Drive is connected to the SATA connection, it powers up ( I can press the physical button and get the drive to open and accept a dvd and it 'reads' it), The BIOS (F2) recognizes the drive. The Diagnostics (F12) checks it as working. But in Device Manager, DVD Rom is not listed and never found. It has got to be something simple. I've 'fiddled' with the connector cable (good connection). Why would it just go bad? I've got a Dell 3847 x64.

If the laptop in question is a Toshiba and the DVD driver name starts 'TSSTcorp DVD '.... the solution which works is 'Try uninstalling the two programs (TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator, TOSHIBA Disc Creator) if they are installed. '
After trying everything under the sun, including adding the register keys, it turns out all i needed to do was removed this old Toshiba program. I'm guessing when it uninstalled it also fixed the anomalous register entry which was blocking windows 10. Drive Letter showed up after reboot.

@@Jayden727wysi The mention of no legacy support for DVD and CDROM drives implies windows 10, without this video making this point clearly, that said the pages showing the settings are clearly windows 10. Good luck to the rest of you jumping on to regedit...
In my case the issue occured after i migrated my systems from window 8.1 to windows 10. This was a bit of a core as i had to reset the system updates using cmd instructions which i found else where. Anyway it worked out, 8.1 was able to update, and a fresh download of windows 10 to usb, was able to eventually migrate the system. It did leave me without DVD drive, which I discovered was cause by the Toshiba driver managment program overwriting the windows 10 version of the dvd drivers. This i sorted by finding and removing the Toshiba program.
If you have a DVD fault due to some other situation you'll have to be specific. As this video clearly wasn't.

Hi there, thank you for your question! First, ensure that the discs you're using are compatible with your DVD drive. Clean the disc to remove any dirt or fingerprints. Update the DVD drive drivers through the Device Manager and reinstall the DVD playback software to address any software conflicts. Check the DVD region settings to ensure they match the disc's region. Consider trying a different DVD player software like VLC Media Player or PowerDVD. Test with different discs to determine if the problem is specific to certain media. If the issue persists, it might indicate a hardware problem, and contacting HP support or a professional technician for assistance is recommended.

Hi there, thank you for your question! It sounds like your registry file is corrupted or missing, which prevents Windows from loading properly. This can happen if you delete or modify some vital keys in the registry, or if a Windows update fails to install correctly. I would recommend creating a bootable installation on a USB or DVD, then insert it into your laptop and restart it then press the bios button key and then choose the USB as a UEFI device and then repair your computer using the bootable media.

Very well explained, however, I had problems with Explorer not responding when i clicked on the DVD drive, I did an in-place upgrade, then I installed drivers for my DRive, now when I insert a new DVD into the drive the Explorer says unresponding, then after a few minutes the drive shows the DVD and I can burn the windows iso file, anytime after that when I reinsert the DVD in there it does not show the long bar showing how much of the space on the DVD i have used, however when I double click it and if I am lucky it opens up and I can see the Windows iso files. Something is definitely wrong. when I go to bios and choose to boot up with the DVD drive all I see is: REstart and choose the correct Bootup device", or words like that. it's driving me crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      @RecoveritDataRecoverySoftware  Рік тому

Hi there, thank you for your question! To address these, consider updating your system's drivers, cleaning the DVD drive's lens, testing different DVDs, restarting Windows Explorer, ensuring correct BIOS boot order, and verifying the integrity of the Windows ISO on the DVD. If these troubleshooting steps don't resolve the problems, seeking help from a computer technician might be advisable to diagnose and address both potential hardware and software-related issues.

Hi there, thank you for your question! This could indicate that the red laser for DVD reading is malfunctioning, while the infrared laser for CD reading is still working try to open your CD/DVD drive and gently clean the area around the laser head with a dry, soft cloth. Make sure there is no dust or debris that could interfere with the laser. You can also disable or uninstall any third-party burning software that you use, as they may conflict with the DVD reading function.

Hi there, thank you for your question! Consider cleaning the DVD drive's lens and verifying the condition of the DVDs for scratches or smudges. Check for firmware updates on the manufacturer's website and ensure there are no software conflicts or power management settings causing interference with the drive. Also, review the Device Manager for driver updates or try rolling back to a previous driver version if necessary. If the problem persists, you may want to explore system restore options or consult a professional technician for hardware-related issues

      Hi there,
If your external hard disk is not showing up in disk management, it's possible that there is an issue with the connection between the hard disk and your computer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
      Check the cable and connections.
Check if the hard disk is spinning up.
Check if the hard disk is recognized on another computer.
      Check the power supply.
Try data recovery software. Download Recoverit here: bit.ly/3ZoowNK
If none of these steps work, it's possible that the hard disk has failed and may need to be replaced.

      Hi there,
Thank you for your question. To solve issues with a CD-ROM or DVD drive not working in Windows, there are several steps to take. Firstly, check for physical issues such as proper connection and obstructions. If the drive is external, try a different USB port or cable. Updating drivers by right-clicking on the drive in Device Manager, or downloading the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website, can also help. Alternatively, uninstalling the drive, restarting the computer, and letting Windows reinstall the driver can resolve the issue. Checking for conflicts in Device Manager and the registry, as well as using the built-in troubleshooter in Control Panel, can also help identify and fix any problems with the CD-ROM or DVD drive.

Hi there, thank you for your question. If you have connected an external CD/DVD drive to your laptop and inserted a CD/DVD with a software program like Excel or PowerPoint, you may need to manually install the software or create a shortcut to the program on your desktop. Here's how to do it:
      1. Connect the external CD/DVD drive to your laptop and insert the CD/DVD containing the software.
      2. Open File Explorer by pressing `Win` + `E` keys on your keyboard or by clicking the folder icon in the taskbar.
      3. In the File Explorer, click on "This PC" or "My Computer" in the left pane. You should see the external CD/DVD drive listed under "Devices and drives."
      4. Double-click on the CD/DVD drive to open its contents. Look for the installer file, which is usually named "setup.exe," "install.exe," or something similar.

First, locate the small pinhole near the DVD drive's eject button and use a straightened paperclip or similar object to gently apply pressure and manually release the tray. If that doesn't work, restart your computer as a simple software glitch may be causing the issue.
