This is all what a tutorial should be. Complete, easy to understand an for foreigners an clean and all clear spoken English. Superb! Congratulations and thank you very much for teaching how to open the box without damaging it and going straight to solve the problem. Brgds.
it's been a long time since i took an optical drive apart. my 2009 LG DVD RAM LightScribe drive (circa 2009) has been in my last 2 pc builds. even in 2022 things STILL come with physical CD/DVD media for installation, so i have this installed just in case. i always knew about the paper clip thing, but wanted to check the inside for crusty stuff and whatnot; we have always had cats fur and dust go places you wouldn't think possible. i know this is an old video, but it is still helpful 7 years down the road. i have not put the drive back in yet, but i know it needed cleaning after 13 years after disassembly. thanks for the vid, sir.
I did something very similar with a old car cassette player years ago. Was able to find the exact rubber band at a electronics store. Thanks for showing the teardown, just cleaned the laser on my burner, hopefully that fix my problem.
good job, i've been working on PCs since windows 3.1 and i'm just now getting around to resolving this issue for the future. thanks for the time saving help.
Thanks. I forgot all about the belt scenario on these things. Cleaned both pulleys and belt with rubbing alcohol and then went a step further and I used my cassette deck belt Rubber Renue solvent on it made by MG Chemicals. It helped the belt become more pliable again. Naturally this will only work as long as the belt is not very stretched. Anyway, the disc tray is working great again. Another product saved from the land fill. UA-cam sure is handy. Thank you.
I don't even use dvd drives anymore for quite a long while now, but I just tried this on one lying around and it worked. Wish I knew this a years ago would have been helpful. But thank you for sharing still.
Thank you so much for this guide as I just fixed my CD draw from sticking , lucky I was able to get to the parts easy without removing anything , I just reached through the front open draw and cleaned the parts with a swab alcohol cleaning fluid, and now works like brand new. The draw used to take about five or so presses before it would open, great video thank you!
Thanks for your video. Your suggestions to clean the belt and gears with alcohol fixed my problem. Saved money and didn't mistakenly get rid of a easily fixable working dvd player.
Thanks, I did your second half trick but paper clipping the drive open then did a cleaning after removing the old crusty band. I did not get it to work just by cleaning it and reinstalling, but I did get a fix after using a replacement poly band from my daughters bathroom that are coincidentally sticky enough and also stretch well but are just smaller than the OEM band. Outstanding fix for free and saved me hundreds in a replacement drive for a legacy-era but still needed drive. You da man!
Thank you for making this video. I never would have suspected the belt if it was still intact. I also forgot about using that little pinhole to manually eject the tray. Thanks, brother.
Was able to fix my WH14NS40 which I had since '15 and then suddenly just today started not ejecting. You are right I have let it sit for a long time and a bunch of dirt not visible to the eye came out. Thank you for this tutorial.
Just watched your video and was able to repair 3 different drives that I was having the exact same problem with. Turns out that the computers I inherited had something spilled onto them. The spills caused the drive doors to become sticky thus ultimately creating the problems that your instructional video just helped me to resolve perfectly. Thank you very much for your help brother.
Thank you, exceptional explanation. I couldn't resist looking your video till the very end. Unfortunately I can not find a video that helps me open/remove a coin - coin used to put inside a car vacuum cleaner at gas station - that my 4 year old grandson introduced today in the cd-rom slot of my Yaris, year 2005!!!
Thanks for the video. What I did is used some belt dressing for fan belts on a car to keep it from squealing....LOL I know it's a temporary fix, but I do know it verifies the belt slips. It's working ok for now, but thanks to your video, I'm confident I will get it replaced soon !!
Thanks for this guide. I really appreciate it. As a content creator I'd recommend using YT Studio to trim it to the parts that are really needed. I may actually make a similar video and give ya some credit for the original guide :) *I know this is a duplicate of Dad4 Service's(my personal channel) message - I put it here via this channel first but after reading your "About Page" 1 you got two subs and 2 I decided to share it again :) thanks for the work and the video.* We have a 4 DVD disk drive duplicator but it has this eject issue. I always thought it was OS issue but you showed it's the band!!! thanks again!
Thank you very much! I've cleaned the rubber belt and now my drive ejects. Unfortunately after it ejects, and then quickly closes. But it's still better than having to rely on a paper clip to do the job. :)
You are very helpful and erudite technically and you saved my 50 bucks because ever time man charges me the same amount ,never does the repair before me.
I enjoyed you presentation. It was enlightening. We have a Microboards Techenolgy QD-127 (seven CD) replicator that has several of it's drawers that have this problem. I didn't know what the cause was for the drawers not opening. I might just look at one of the drives and see if this will solve the problem. I also like fred Flintstone's suggestion to use rubber renue after cleaning with the alcohol.
Great video, even if the CD Drive is an IDE! Another similar video the youtuber placed a small amount of belt dressing on the belt, & that worked, too. Thanks added questions: do you need to lubricate the 2 guide rails the tray slides on? There might be more. Were you previously in the military? Thanks
I am very pissed off. I tore up my first drive because it wouldn't open. i used knives and everything to pry it open.. Then i ordered one off Amazon and i just put it in and its giving me the same problem. Typed Cd/DVD Drive will not open on youtube and your video comes on and now i know ots the darn rubber band! i havent took the new one apart yet im just using the paper clip to open it for now.. Great Video.. 5 stars from me.
I have the same drive and my tray refuses to budge even after I used the paper clip, I don't need it anymore but I want it because it will be nice to have for what I'm doing
I disassembled it, took out all of the insides, put the chassis back together, re-applied the front panel without the drive panel, slapped it inside a PC and use the drives chassis as an air intake. XD It works amazing for extra airflow in a older big tower pc case. You can also store excess wires in there.
I think what ever video you make is interesting so keep up the good work I'm always watching to see what you come up with next. I started reloading because of you and got more into survival stuff and just plain and simple out of the house period thanks have a nice day.
I took a shortcut . I just used a little paint brush about the size of a Q tip to brush on alcohol. I noticed that I could see the rubber band and pullies with the drawer open, so I decided to just try a little alcohol for a quick fix. Kind of like cleaning a VCR. A little alcohol cleans the heads right up. Thanks for the video though. Nice to know how to take a CD/DVD apart, how the drawer mechanism works, and how to give it an ever so thorough cleaning. Cheers...
Thanks for this guide. I really appreciate it. As a content creator I'd recommend using YT Studio to trim it to the parts that are really needed. I may actually make a similar video and give ya some credit for the original guide :)
Thank you so much! Helped me fix my drive! And yes, I love you keeping the unscrewing in the video bc clearly I am not educated enough to do this haha! Again, thank you!
You can get an exact fit "O ring" at your hardware store, that will last a lot longer than a rubber band. Most hardware stores have a very large selection.
Jiujitsu, thanks for a great video. Years ago I tried to fix an old VCR (ok, quit laughing) and ordered an assortment of replacement belts. Fast forward to today and I saw your video and pulled out that old ziplock bag and found just the right drive band to fix my DVD drive. It was not that hard!
Will this method work on a boom box CD drawer? My boom box CD drawer holds 3 CD’s but the drawer will not open. I’ve been trying to find an electronics repair place to fix it, but no one seems to do this type of repair where I live (Victorville, CA.
Now I know how to fix my DVD Drive and hope I will use it soon for CD/DVD Burn to keep my PC's Storage free space and makes some profits from CD-DVD Burn, Thanks Sir. for the videos I hope you will be awarded for your kindness
What if the belt is good and the drive was cleaned and lubricated (tray mechanism) and still won't eject? Is there a way to demagnetize the disc spindle?
I did hear a tip if you set that rubber belt in some water and short cooked in de micro way. it seems to shrinkage a little bit, but had not done test it myself yet
You are not boring us..!
You are Sharing a great Knowledge..!
Your method of cleaning the rollers etc. worked like a charm. Just saved me a trip to Microcenter and $20. Thank you!
John Doe thank you
THANKS, Your capabilities of giving description in simple easy to understand way, are extra ordinary
This is all what a tutorial should be. Complete, easy to understand an for foreigners an clean and all clear spoken English. Superb! Congratulations and thank you very much for teaching how to open the box without damaging it and going straight to solve the problem. Brgds.
Indeed. Crystal clear speaking and a lot easier for foreigners.
Thanks man! Your advice revived my sick LightScribe DVD drive I've had for over ten years! It would've sucked to have lost this thing!
it's been a long time since i took an optical drive apart.

Almost throw to the bin my first korean dvd-rw from 2003. Thank you so very much for saving it
I did something very similar with a old car cassette player years ago. Was able to find the exact rubber band at a electronics store. Thanks for showing the teardown, just cleaned the laser on my burner, hopefully that fix my problem.
Thank you! Just what I needed
good job, i've been working on PCs since windows 3.1 and i'm just now getting around to resolving this issue for the future. thanks for the time saving help.
What about 2.11?
So refreshing to see someone not using an 18volt Makita on this stuff, well done as you explained.
Thanks. I forgot all about the belt scenario on these things. Thank you man. I was able to fix it without even taking it apart. Cleaned the rubber band and it works like a charm now.
First way you showed me did the trick. Thanks a million, you're a lifesaver!
+HamsterWheelGaming Cool! Glad it helped. Thank you for the kind words and support you give my channel I hope you have a beautiful day!

Thank you so much! I tried the alcohol cleaning and it opens every time. you rock! easy fix too
+William Ewan Sweet! Thank you!
A better way to service these belts is to boil them up in the microwave... just 5 minutes and voilà. This is a trick used by the pros back in the day.
Thanks for your video. Your suggestions to clean the belt and gears with alcohol fixed my problem. Saved money and didn't mistakenly get rid of a easily fixable working dvd player.
sweet! thank you brotha!
+jiujitsu2000 Sista but you're welcome😄
+joijoi242 ha ha, thank you sista! ;-)

My HP a1330n computer has 2 dvd rom drives, both drives had this issue and your solution resolved and fixed both of them. Thank you so much.
Thank you for making this video. I never would have suspected the belt if it was still intact. I also forgot about using that little pinhole to manually eject the tray. Thanks, brother.
Thanks to your video I managed to bring back to life my optical drive in my old Mac. Thank you for this cool tip. Legend!
I took mine apart to remove the magnets but I left your video playing because I enjoyed listening to your voice. :)
Thank you so much it worked, This tutorial just saved me 15$
Great Video. 5 Stars.
This video helped me repair the family DVD player...I'm a hero around the house now.
+fordsucks2 Thank you!
Remember when we could give stars? much better than the thumbs up thing
Was able to fix my WH14NS40 which I had since '15 and then suddenly just today started not ejecting. You are right I have let it sit for a long time and a bunch of dirt not visible to the eye came out. Thank you for this tutorial.

Unfortunately after it ejects, and then quickly closes.
But it's still better than having to rely on a paper clip to do the job. :)
Thanks a lot buddy!! The 1st method worked even by using cheap ethyl alcohol. DVD/R saver at 02:00am with a stuck dvd in drive.

Great. Well presejted. Really learnt something. Thanks. Tony
I just wanted to open it as my old pc broke down and had a dvd in the driver. Thank you
Thank you so much! Helped me fix my drive! And yes, I love you keeping the unscrewing in the video bc clearly I am not educated enough to do this haha! Again, thank you!
Great. Just make sure that if you use a smaller rubber band instead of a replacement belt, it may prevent the motor from turning.
Perfect! Exactly what I need for my DVD-ROM. Thanks, sir.
Love you brother it's working thanks again
wow, i'm brazilian and you video, help me so much
I used white distilled vinegar for cleaning and it works too. Since I was there I also greased the bars where the laser components slides on.
Excellent presentation. Where can you buy stronger rubber band.?
Thank u so much..The alcohol cleaning part really worked for me. Thanks a ton!!
Not sure what gauge but Lowes sells o rings for plumbing. About to head out and see if I can get a better replacement than the rubber band.
You can get an exact fit "O ring" at your hardware store, that will last a lot longer than a rubber band. Most hardware stores have a very large selection.
Truth, I live in a small town. Our hardware store has such high prices. That's one reason I adapt. Home depot is 60 miles. Thank you for stopping by!
This worked for me, I just wiped it off with a rag, it was a returned unit and there seemed to be some grease on it from the gears, thanks!!
Awesome! thank you
Thanks! I am agree with you and have used successfully these methods several times, they definitely work! Thanks again man, and good luck!
Thnkew Sir, It Really Works …. !! Good
Will this method work on a boom box CD drawer? My boom box CD drawer holds 3 CD’s but the drawer will not open. I’ve been trying to find an electronics repair place to fix it, but no one seems to do this type of repair where I live (Victorville, CA.

I have a Gateway 825GM and the optical drive tray has been sticking, gonna give this a try the next time i open it up. :)
Now I know how to fix my DVD Drive and hope I will use it soon for CD/DVD Burn to keep my PC's Storage free space and makes some profits from CD-DVD Burn, Thanks Sir. for the videos I hope you will be awarded for your kindness

Thank you so much sir🙏🙏well explained and you literally made my day... very very thank you...
I did hear a tip if you set that rubber belt in some water and short cooked in de micro way. it seems to shrinkage a little bit, but had not done test it myself yet
Nice! I thought that was a cup holder!
You can cook, reload, shoot, woodwork, fix DVD players.....but can you juggle? : )
Ha ha! I'm a clown at times too!!! 🎉
Great solutions. Thank you
Thank you for the information. It helps a lot. Keep it up.
+Ankii Chauhan Thank you!
I have the Pioneer BDR-207EBK would this be the reason it won't eject anymore? Would the fix be the same too?
I so love you ! Thanks .. the first trick worked for me :)
Cleaning rubber band did it for me! Thank you!
Thank u so much u r video helped me to fix my DVD and saved my money ,(200Rs) And thank u once again
