Good question! I am not sure if the unit itself has a microphone, but there is an option on the unit's settings to use the original car's "BT Phone", which is OFF on mine. I suppose it's possible to switch between the car's mic and the phone's mic but will have to test it to find out.
Yes, you need both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for Android Auto. When you connect Bluetooth, it will reset the Wi-Fi connection on your phone to the unit. If you turn off the Wi-Fi, it will disconnect and turn off the Android Auto mode.
