      True about Schwikert, powerful on all events really, and always reliable in team competitions. Yim brought the lyrical artistic quality though. A shame she didn't make the Athens team in '04. and Schwikert only as an alternate.

      @@misina211it was a shame, but it was predominantly on her for not being chosen for the actual team. She wasn’t training as seriously as she should have been if she wanted to make it- and her coaches stated as such. If she’d been truly focused on making it - instead of her admitted assumption she would- it’s likely she’d have gone instead of McCool. At least in the end she received that rightful team bronze from Sydney.

    It's funny looking back at Tabitha Yim's way of starting and ending her floor routine. I remember at the time thinking it was so strange, and yet, now everyone's doing it. I've even seen some JO girls "present" that way!

      Not everyone (except for the Dutch girls). But I'm surprised I never heard of Tabitha in my years of watching this sport. Very elegant and artistic.

    I really hated the code during this quad. I think the scoring, especially start values, were so out of whack. With the perfect 10.00 practically unattainable I think it turned off a lot of casual fans. Nobody gets excited when a "great score" of 9.487 flashes on the scoreboard.

    • @theblankofitall2738
      @theblankofitall2738 6 років тому +2

      It's true the low scores were unappealing for the general audience, but I somehow find this code easier to comprehend than the 1997-2000 one.

      misina211 it was better than every Romanian getting 9.7 + on bars during the previous quad when we all know they should’ve received 9.1, 9.2 at best.

      I HATED the stupid full-twisting belly flop that women basically had to do in their routines. Always loved Tasha Schwikert though . .such a bummer she never got Olympic glory.

    • @raras889
      @raras889 2 роки тому +1

      I bet those "casual fans" would be even more confused now that the perfect 10 system is abolished :"D but to be honest, I see this quad scoring system as a transition moment in history before they changed it to the current scoring system. The seeds that difficulty and execution should deserve two different scores can be seen planted here.

    • @Zuranthium
      @Zuranthium 2 роки тому +2

      The code made more sense in this quad than any previous one, although of course they are all flawed. I'm not sure if the scores dropping by an average of .1 really made much difference, nobody had received higher than 9.8's since 1992 anyway, the perfect 10 was long gone and simply never going to be given again. Broadcasters should have just set expectation better for the audience that 9.5 is considered a good score and 9.8 would probably be the ceiling.
      Part of the problem though, is competitors weren't gaming the code well enough. It wasn't that hard to get a 10.0 start value on Bars and Beam, but tons of people seemed confused about how to build a routine, and even when people did have 10.0 start values, most of those routines were not optimized to the code and worked harder than they needed for the 10.0 start value, which means more deduction is going to happen. This was already a problem people had in the 97-2000 code, but since the 2001-2005 code required a bit more difficulty, the issue increased.
      For example, Khorkina in this quad was doing Cast 1/2 and Stalder 1/1 out of a Pak and 1.5 pirouette in her routine, when there was an easier way to get 10.0 difficulty: start the routine with a Clear-hip 1/2, then do the Stalder 1/1 later on from handstand, and replace the 1.5 pirouette with an easier Stalder 1/2.
      Another example, Nastia Liukin in 2005 did Inbar 1/2 + Ono + Endo 1/2 + Stalder 1/2 + Lgrip 1/1 + Lgrip 1/2 + Gienger...which is cool to see, but wasn't code efficient. If she had simply started the routine with a straight jump to handstand, then she could have cut out 3 of those moves on the high bar and still had a 10.0 start value.

    It seems like they made a major mistake, only giving Ziganshina a 9.8 start value for this Bar routine - 31:42 - her elements are D + D + D + D, C + E, D, D - this is exactly the 1.2 points of skill value needed, and all the routine requirements were fulfilled.

    • @gymdecoder
      @gymdecoder 11 місяців тому

      The second skill in Ziganshina's opening sequence was credited as Element 5.302 (giant circle swing forward in reverse grip to handstand with 1/1 turn in handstand phase).
      While we don't have the best angle of the dismount, based on how piked the second salto becomes, I think that the judges downgraded it to a double pike to arrive at the 9.8 SV out of a planned 9.9 SV.

      Also, although Im normally not a fan of white leos, Hypolito’s is pretty. Looks like one that would be worn today
      I font remember bhardwaj evrr doing 2 1/2 on vault; if she didnt, she could have. Her vaulting was spectacular

    What the heck kind of mats were they using here? With the dismounts off beam, there is zero give, and the landings are as loud as when they landed on the beam! I'm sure it wasn't the best feeling either.

  • @jojox9791

    I get Svetlana was a very tall gymnast. however, had any other gymnast landed double backs that low and lunged to knees bent, there would be helfy deductions. the rules shouldn't change because of height. in TF her FX was off ..a not. her whip to triple she tripped out of ans of course those landings.. I give her credit for her achievements but neber been a fan.

    • @shushunovafan4301
      @shushunovafan4301 6 років тому +6

      Wow your spelling is atrocious. At any rate, the fact that you don't like her is entirely irrelevant to her skill as a gymnast. Low landings almost never impacted a score before the introduction of the open ended scoring system as long as the landing was controlled, which Svetlanas almost always was, so implying she was overscored because of that very reason shows your complete ignorance towards this particularly code.

    • @l.a.smittie7412
      @l.a.smittie7412 6 років тому +8

      Shushunovafan What's irrelevant is you pointing out someones grammatical errors! And the only thing that's atrocious is your attitude, I can only suspect you're biased!
      You could have easily made your point without belittling someone. We're all entitled to our own opinions; maybe learn to respect someones indifference. Try educating without berating!

      @@l.a.smittie7412 thank you for your reply!! I was going to say the exact same thing!! Everyone is butt hurt if someone expresses an opinion that differs from their own!! I happen to agree entirely. I was NEVER a fan of Khorkina's gymnastics!! But I'm certainly capable of respecting those who are!! It's ashame when you really have nothing RELEVANT to say, so you bring the grammar police into the picture. Please get a life!!

    • @JamesFrew1
      @JamesFrew1 5 років тому +6

      shushunovafan lol, low landings were counted in this code, and they were always up for deduction. Speaking of grammatical errors, I don’t think you mean ‘particularly’ code, it would be ‘particular’ code. Keep the grammar tight if you’re going to correct it. Also, khorkina was awesome, but her assessment has validity.

    • @sunceremony7717
      @sunceremony7717 3 роки тому +1

      Shushovafan Khorkina’s landings were the opposite of controlled a lot of the time. She was often falling forward/backward or shuffling her feet. She managed to pull her feet together, but she was usually leaning and not in control.

    20 years later, I still can´t see anything wrong with the 01-04 Code of Points. Unlike its predecessors, it didn´t guarantee an automatic 10.0 start value (the previous codes effectively did) and ulike its successors, it still allowed for a lot of expression and choreo in the routines.

    • @saragrant9749
      @saragrant9749 10 місяців тому +1

      It focused TOO much on dance and completely disregarded form, particularly on tumbling. Just look at the floor final in Athens- won with completed dance but the most horrendous tumbling form ever. It also did nothing to reward difficulty at all.

      When I said, 'no issue with age', I meant they were not banned due to age falsification in 2000, as they had not yet come to light. I am not sure what you mean by 2000 affecting their readiness in 2001. Sun Xiaojiao competed at these Worlds as an individual, so China was allowed to compete. And Sun was never under investigation, so there was no issue of age in 2001, as I stated in my original comment.
