Tim talking about how gymnasts don’t need to be all around gymnasts anymore to be on a world or Olympic team makes me so upset for Vanessa Atler. I wish so bad that rule would have been around during her time in gymnastics. She would have 100% been on that 2000 Olympic team.
I heard her say in an interview that she was so relieved to have not been named to that team. I loved her gymnastics and always wondered what could have been.
cracks me up, commenting that gymnasts might be too old at 20 for the 2008 Olympics when Chelsie Memmel is doing bars at age 18. She is going to be 33 this year and she's better than before.
As a dancer, something that always bothers me about floor routines is how when gymnasts complete a series of leaps/jumps, they tend to land right there like they're trying to stick it. I'm sure they're trained to do this for good reasons and all, but to me it always looked super awkward and interrupting the dance. Liukin (among others but she stands out) doesn't do this and it makes me really happy :) I LOVE watching her dance!
btrfeder oh it bothers me when dancers tumble too haha. I don't mind an aerial or something here and there but when people start throwing in handsprings and stuff it just looks out of place, imo.
+btrfeder lol I totally agree I'm a gymnast and dancers tumbling is not as good as gymnasts... But I mean we can't do any better because they are on hard floor so I guess I can give them credit. But cheerleaders are so sloppy when it comes to tumbling
A. Did y’all see Natia do a double layout On floor in practice.....I hit the floor (damn ankle injury) B. Nastia triple off beam was amazing..... (damn ankle injuries) ........ So many superstars in this quad..........
I wondered what happened to Natasha Kelly and Wikipedia said she missed competitions and retired due to injuries on ACL and 2X Achilles tendon tears OUCH , a real talent lost to injury.
"That little fragile body, but there's an animal inside that body" I love how Liukin can honestly balance being a Dad, a supporter, a lover or the sport and a coach. Amazing.
I have to admit, it was funny when Nastia went to the floor and Valery said, be careful with the steps after the two and a half twists and at the end of the routine he did stepped out and he said I just told you that. lol
Alicia Sacramone starts things off at 2:08.Then Chellsie Memmel is up next at 4:11.Then Nastia Liukin is up next at 5:33.Then Natasha Kelley is up at 9:45.
Such a underrated gymnast Germany was always trying to pimp her out if she had taken them up on the offer i think her career would have gone differently then how it did here in the states
Aw, I miss Nastia's little southern accent (18:15)! During the fluff, she practices a double layout on the floor, into the pit, at WOGA. Anyone know whether Nastia used to perform a double layout in a pre-2006 routine? As a non-gymnast, I find double-layouts beautiful to watch. I know she used to perform a DLO dismount on bars, but a growth spurt forced her to change her dismount to the double front with a half twist that we all know and hate, ha. I would have loved to see Nastia perform a DLO on the floor in competition!
She never competed it, but perhaps she trained it. I would imagine her ankle problems and height prevented her from being able to realistically compete it
watching in 2020 and wow!!!! Riley McCusker's floor from 17/18 reminds me sooooo much of Nastia here; not just their physical appearance. Their lines are so similar and both of these routines fx aets have the cringiest music, like nails on a chalkboard lol

I was sooo upset they didn’t choose her. She had time to fix it up mentalky. And she was a champion on vault in the world. Wasn’t she?
I LOVE to see scores in the sixteens!
Miss this so much in 2020😢

Ya gotta hand it to her-Natasha Kelley was VERY consistent at this competition!!
She had an awesome career at LSU!!

+Saria Kokiri I understand what your saying, but, it bothers gymnasts when dancers tumble lol

Misslayla _ yes cheerleaders are sloppy when they do tumbling
I EXTREMELY agree.
Aw I love seeing young Chellsie and Andy! Been following her channel and I can't wait to see how it plays out! $

She did the DLO on a Tumbl Trak, which is waaay easier than on floor.

Chellsie Memmel one of the greats!
I miss the vignettes :(
Same here!!

I know I’m going to catch crap for this but I always thought Alicia danced like a gymnast turned burlesque dancer. 😂
😂😂
Lol 20 Memmel was "old" here but now shes training for Tokyo 2021!!!!!!!
valeri do be bougie with that porsche convertible

What does Valeri say after Nastia's bars that made everyone laugh? I can't hear it.
Then at 33:37,we finally get to see Jana Bieger for the first time.

At 26:46,my favorite gymnast Kayla Hoffman is walking right behind Nastia Liukin grabbing her gym bag.
That Double layout from Chelsel Memmel @ 31:06 bet that stung her Left ankle ouch
my heart pops up when I see that lol I feel her pain in my ankles XD
Omg I felt that 🤢😖
Is it just me or are Sacramones routines almost manic like? It gives me anxiety lol
Her style is more intense and aggressive. Miss her fiesty gymnastics!
Never loved her gymnastics honestly but she is good
Then Ashley Priess is up next at 11:22.

Alicia Sacramone gets a group hug from some of the gymnasts at 40:17.
Alicia and Nas are charming together 💋

only 4 of us wow!!!!!!!!!
Kayla Hoffman can be seen to the right of Nastia at 9:00.Kayla is my all time favorite gymnast !
if she traded the 2 and a half for the 3 and a half shed have a way better routine
Alicia's confidence was too high in Beijing and it broke her! But she's my favorite back then. Today it's Simone!
That fluff hyping up the Karolyi method is so gross.
