After a year and half I noticed my drain plug wasn't touching on one side due to it being drilled off center. Sent them some pictures, they didn't even ask any questions. Sent me a new kayak within days. They even let me keep the old hull which I stripped down and now have every spare part I could need. Amazing customer service.
I had the same issue and escalated to OT. They only offered to send me a new drain plug. My report was the 2nd day that I owned it so I returned the kayak to the dealer.
It is a great seat. I purchased the Kustom Kayak seat cushion but I actually like it better with just the seat, no cushion. I have a story about my son coming to vist the first time in 5 years and I had issues with the Minn Kota moror. Old Town replaced the motor, under warranty and did it in a matter of days SO I had it available for my son"s week long visit. They are the best, bar none. OldTown is the GOAT. I live 1500 miles away from them,, I'm just an OldTown Kayak Owner and I know several of their employees by name just from Customer Service and because they take great care of their customers. I've had mine for over 3 years now. I love it more every day.
What’s up Steve! That’s great to hear! I might try it without the cushion but it was a lifesaver on my PDL. Thanks for the comment! Happy fishing buddy!
I have this boat, and they had to send me a different motor, I was out on the Tennessee river and it quit , but otherwise I love it. I fish and carry all my camping stuff and fish on islands or wherever I want to all weekend long
Nice review and I liked your common sense mods and additions. I hope Old Town invites you to participate on the design team for the next autopilot design update. Go Army (D-Day anniversary!)
First time viewer here. So a few things. I have a Feelfree Lure and I have the Motordrive for it, motor slides into the pedals and runs the prop. Also as far as the navigation lights, they are not required in all states. In NC you don't "have to have lights" if the vessel is less than 7 meters in length. But more lights is safer for your visibility. Anyways GREAT review.
I was jigging in the front of my boat and my Minn Kota was turned all the way the opposite direction. I also had the micro remote with that little rabbit button. I leaned over my boat slightly and the remote pressed in between me and the gunnel. It hit the rabbit button and launched me over the side of my boat. I barely held on and was able to pull myself back in. Be careful with that little remote and the rabbit feature. I imagine it would be way worse in a Yak. Great review. Liked and subbed.
I have my autopilot 136 , do a shit ton of fishing for reds and specks around Oregon inlet in NC. Its definitely hands down , the best kayak in the business of hands free fishing. I did replace the connection points after some intermittent breaks in connection due to some slight swelling around the pins in the plug from a short somehow. Now its solid as a rock. Great Review.
You made some great valid points. I'm looking at the AP 120 and Nucanoe Unlimited with an Xi3 but after watching this video I'm leaning more towards the AP 120
While Unlimited is a nice kayak, it becomes nuisance adding everything to it and having to deal with aftermarket add ons. I sold mine. Looking forward to getting AP120 where it's all packaged together. Biggest advantage of Unlimited is stability, light weight for a huge kayak and built in cup holders.
I have one built in a Brooklyn 13ft and they solved the front compartment problem I have a 100ah and a 30ah battery side by side in my front compartment yes and the charger is in there too
Good review, I’m in the market for a fishing kayak, I was already leaning between this one because of the Minn Kota trolling motor, I already have a full size one on the Smoker Craft boat.
Great review. I just purchased a 136 auto Pilot recently. As you mentioned , these kayaks are fairly heavy. A truck rack in my opinion is the best way to transport to avoid having to put a 12' or 13.5' kayak in a truck bed. I wanted a safer way to transport and also wanted the use of the bed. I'm looking at buying a "Will i loader " system which does an oustanding job assiting getting it on the rack.. This is a fisherman's kayak for sure. One peice of advice for anyone looking to buy one. Buy it from a dealer and pick it up in person. I ordered mine from a larger retailer and had 5 kayaks shipped to me before I got one that was not damaged by the freight company they contract with. Old town does a poor job packaging these for shipment.
My son loves his auto pilot 120. He had problems with the motor connector and old town sent him a new one. He also had charging problems with the it. they replaced it. He loves the spot lock and uses it a lot. I have the pdl106 and would like the 120 but i don't have away to transport
Great review Jayson! You must have filmed this before the release of the Grey Ghost color? Started fishing kayak tournaments and really see the value in the motor and spot lock, I hope to be able to upgrade to an autopilot at some point.

Came within an inch of buying a "Spot-Lock" Old Town, 2 weeks ago. Tried one out, along with the "Regular" MinnKota Old Town 106, and came to realize I needed BOTH pedal drive AND Motor "Assist" for the type of fishing I do...! My Titan 10.5 is paid for, and it's a little more stable (albeit Heavier) than either Old Towns, so I went with the NK-180 drive (haven't installed it yet, so "we'll see!). Lol... Sure like your setup, commentary, and all the additions you did to your Auto Pilot. I'll have to pass on your site to my biddies with Old Town 'Yaks, for sure....!
Great video! I just ordered the autopilot 136 today. And an hour later I’m wondering if I should have gone with the EPDL . What are the pros and cons between the two? Thank you.
I think the main difference is the AP is mean as a motorized kayak. ePDL is to assist while pedaling so it really depends on your style of fishing. As for the kayak itself, the AP is more stable but slower than the Bigwater. I think you can’t go wrong with either but I love the AutoPilot. I love spotlock and think it’s the best platform for freshwater fishing.
I just bought this same kayak and can’t wait to get it in the water for the first time. I just want to know is this kayak ok to stand up in it when you need to or does feel like it wants to tip over?
what a great review! Thank you! Very well done. I really appreciate the customizations that you did. I will definitely do many of them I'm 6'4" so I appreciate the seat extensions shown. I, too, have back issues and will be looking at those as well!
Great video. I have the AP 136. You seem like you really know this yak and was wondering if you might be able to help me with an issue I'm having? I'm sure yours is a newer model , mine is a 2021. I don't have that magnet that you show in the video on the motor. Mines in a different spot. So my issue is even if my rudder is straight, and I'm moving forward, I have to turn the motor about 4 inches to the right to go straight. It's like it's dog tracking similar to a car. I'm not using any Autopilot functions, just seting the motor straight and going forward. The motor is clocked in the right position so when it's facing forward the motor I can lift the motor and the prop comes out of the hole perfectly. With everything straight including the rudder if I don't offset the motor it will turn instead of going straight. It blows my mind. Just hoping somebody could tell me something I'm not checking right. It's almost like the bottom of the kayak isn't straight, like the keel is warped or something stupid like that. The only thing mounted to the bottom is my transducer, but it mounted up in the spot it's supposed to be. I have a video of it but I can't attach it to a comment. I'd have to email it or send it thru a text or something. Thanks in advance if you might have a thought of what it's doing.
Warranty void once you drilled holes for the lights. I use a clip on green/red light that goes on front handle. Place clip on white light on seat frame to light deck. Bought them at Walmart $5. Love the yak but the weight is the biggest negative. I wish Old Town would keep up grading every few years to make it better.
If holes are above water line, hull warranty is still valid (confirmed by company rep). Nice DIY idea on the lights though. Yes, it’s definitely heavy but like the fact that kayak is tougher and more durable than other brands due to thicker plastic.

I think the spot lock feature on the AutoPilot is worth the extra money but it really depends on how you fish. I also think having a trolling motor is amazing!
@@WannaFishAllDay just checking. I may be forced to cartop so had the PDL with a NK180 Pro on my radar on my radar to reduce weight. At 79 with bum knees and some back issues I’d likely be better off with an AP, but wanted to avoid a trailer.
Cartopping an AP is doable especially if you’re planning to do the same with a PDL. The motor is super simple to off load and the bare weight is comparable to a PDL.
These motorized kayaks are amazing machines, BUT..... They are heavy, wide, hard to paddle, and VERY expensive (old town keeps raising the price). A kayak is a boat that is designed to move through the water efficiently because it is intended to be human powered. Once you add 50-100 lbs of trolling motor and battery, it forces the kayak to be so big and wide that it undermines the whole point of a kayak. I am going to get something in the next month or so, but it won't be a motorized kayak. It will either be something like a Pond Prowler/Bass buddy/Cannoe with a trolling motor on it, or a pedal powered kayak. A motorized Kayak just doesn't make sense to me.
Took my autopilot 120 out for the first time today and had motor issues. Worked for a minute then stopped; unhooked and reconnected call cables it then worked for a few minutes; slowed down to slow speed then prop stopped spinning despite having all other functionality. Checked sheer pin and prop itself and nothing visible. Any ideas on what the culprit might be?? Thank you!
Iniitially thought it might be your kill switch but since you had all other functionality, maybe something else. It could be a lot of different things so best bet is to call Old Town Customer Service. They’re great.
Thanks. The bixpy wasn’t doing it for me. Plus, I wanted spotlock. However, the PDL 120 is still my favorite kayak. So versatile with the pedals and being able to add a motor.
I have both and put an Xi3 on the bow of the 106 MK and it is now my favorite. The problem I had with the AP120 is weeds, it’s nearly impossible to raise the motor through the narrow opening in the deck. Other than that which was a huge issue for me, it’s a great Quality kayak.
Thanks for the review. Very helpful information. The Old Town website says this kayak weighs 152 pounds. Is that with the Minnkota and battery on the boat or not?
I would if that falls within your budget. The warranty does not travel with the new owner so I would recommend a thorough inspection. I know plenty of people who have used Old Town’s and are extremely happy. Good luck!
Here's the problem IMO At anything over $1k kayaks begin to get to be cost prohibitive VS a used fishing boat purchase of similar size and cost as well as no more easy or practical to transport and store than a trailered boat of similar size Unless you BOTH stick to 10' or under AND own a pickup with at least a 6.5' bed you will have to trailer your kayak And again IMO if I have to trailer a kayak I'm going to find a good deal on a small used fishing boat as there are endless numbers of great deals on good used fishing boats under $3k and there are more advantages to a small two persons fishing boat with both a motor and trolling motor than a trolling motor powered kayak increased safety chief among them I have fished a great deal out of small 12' boats and I have fished a lot out of kayaks I have tipped kayaks and as everyone knows it's not a matter of IF you will flip a Kayak while fishing but WHEN I have NEVER flipped a small boat and I've fished in small pond hopper types as well as small one person fiberglass boats For sane people kayaks are small water fishing boats that ARE NOT intended for anything approaching rough water use or fish in high winds and for around $3k I can pick up a nice 16' used fishing boat with a 9.9hp motor out fit it with a decent trolling motor and be able to fish tge same waters as a 10-12' kayak WITH one of my kids and be safe from flipping or if I get caught out in mildly choppy waves or winds of 10-15mph that will be very challenging to a foot or paddle powered kayak but no big deal to a outboard powered boat of similar size IMO I see absolutely no point to spending whatcwill end up being closer to $3k on a kayak most people will need trailer and store same as if they owned a 12' two person basic AL fishing boat.

Not as currently configured. You would have to add an extra plug on the battery.
Are those battery and motor connections plug and play or do you need to do any hookup at all?
Plug n play
Does NJ require registration for kayaks?
Yes if motorized.
What's the name of the mount for the remote??
YakAttack camera mount on a Navarre Kayak Fishing handle.
Where did you get that bracket for your remote?
Yakattack camera mount.
Thanks man!
👍👊🏼
Thanks for the review. Very helpful information. The Old Town website says this kayak weighs 152 pounds. Is that with the Minnkota and battery on the boat or not?
The 152 lbs. includes the motor but not the battery. I have a 100ah lifePO4 battery that weighs 16 lbs so my total weight is 168 lbs.
On average how long does your battery last?
I’ve never run out of battery. I can easily go over 10 hours.
Would you buy a used one ?
I would if that falls within your budget. The warranty does not travel with the new owner so I would recommend a thorough inspection. I know plenty of people who have used Old Town’s and are extremely happy. Good luck!
Thanks for the reply
How does the puck hook up to your trolling motor??
Bluetooth

Here's the problem IMO
At anything over $1k kayaks begin to get to be cost prohibitive VS a used fishing boat purchase of similar size and cost as well as no more easy or practical to transport and store than a trailered boat of similar size
Unless you BOTH stick to 10' or under AND own a pickup with at least a 6.5' bed you will have to trailer your kayak
And again IMO if I have to trailer a kayak I'm going to find a good deal on a small used fishing boat as there are endless numbers of great deals on good used fishing boats under $3k and there are more advantages to a small two persons fishing boat with both a motor and trolling motor than a trolling motor powered kayak increased safety chief among them
I have fished a great deal out of small 12' boats and I have fished a lot out of kayaks I have tipped kayaks and as everyone knows it's not a matter of IF you will flip a Kayak while fishing but WHEN
I have NEVER flipped a small boat and I've fished in small pond hopper types as well as small one person fiberglass boats
For sane people kayaks are small water fishing boats that ARE NOT intended for anything approaching rough water use or fish in high winds and for around $3k I can pick up a nice 16' used fishing boat with a 9.9hp motor out fit it with a decent trolling motor and be able to fish tge same waters as a 10-12' kayak WITH one of my kids and be safe from flipping or if I get caught out in mildly choppy waves or winds of 10-15mph that will be very challenging to a foot or paddle powered kayak but no big deal to a outboard powered boat of similar size
IMO I see absolutely no point to spending whatcwill end up being closer to $3k on a kayak most people will need trailer and store same as if they owned a 12' two person basic AL fishing boat.
Where do you fish with that craft? And for what?
Usually lakes and rivers for bass but i do go striper fishing on occasion.
You don’t need lights in Florida papi
You don’t need red a green. Boat is less than 16ft. You need one all around white light
If you have a motor, regardless of kayak length, you need red and green navigation lights.
@@WannaFishAllDay “a power driven vessel less than 7 meters whose maximum speed does not exceed 8 knots may have one all around white light” this is straight out the Uscg nav rules.
