No idea if you also experience these thoughts but.... I've found that every time I've bumped up my dose because it wasn't working well enough I feel more and more validated, actually. Often I get thoughts of "I'm making it up," "I'm just naturally lazy," etc. The more meds I realized I NEEDED the more I realized that I was/am *actually* mentally ill and it is of no fault of mine. The more I consider that it is simply the chemicals in my brain, the less I feel victimized and to blame. It's really helped me start to find peace with myself 🙂

Hey Annie, that's interesting and I can empathise with that! It's like first starting meds, you have that moment of "oh wow, I must be ill!" which helps you realise you weren't making it all up.

The combo is prescribed by my doctor and works incredibly well. Been working out, practicing Muay Thai and golf, had a big clear out in my flat and feeling much more positive and confident. I just moved from 50mg to 100mg today. I've found that I'm completely put off the idea of drinking, and that's something I turned to almost every day as you said. I don't want alcohol to be a part of my life anymore if I can help it. In 2020, before I had access to therapy or medication (I asked the NHS to put me on the waiting list due to feeling s*icidal, and they didn't or forgot), I joined A.A., but it felt too cult-like and there were too many rules/expectations, and it had me thinking about and obsessing over alcohol even more, so I'm hoping that this change, and going to therapy and doing things in my life that help towards a peaceful/happier time will mean I naturally gravitate away from it for the rest of my life. Let's see what happens.

Firstly, if you’ve ever taken a certain drug (cough cough Coca Cola) you’ll recognise the dry feeling mouth you get in the first couple of days. Secondly, my bottom jaw has moved forward as it is now relaxed but aches from not being clenched. Just thought it was worth mentioning as I hadn’t seen anyone describe these before.

Thanks for posting this! I had the same experience due to the pandemic - I was doing quite well on 50 mg Sertraline and then it all fell apart. It took quite some time for me to decide to increase the dose. I had a doctor who jumped me up from 50 to 100 in two weeks and that was too fast for me - my anxiety and panic attacks increased to the point where I couldn't stand it! So I backed off for several months but ended up in the same place, so I found a new doctor who is increasing my dose more slowly - I'm on 75 now and still having a tough time but think I'll be able to power through. I take 50 in the morning and 25 later in the day. She also gave me beta blockers for the anxiety attacks, which I take about twice a day. I'm hopeful that I'll be feeling better in time.

I started 100 mg a few days ago after being off them for 2 years (bad decision to get off them in the first place). It may not be the best idea to start with 100 mg directly but it's manageable, a bit restless and over-energized, borderline to anxiety. Had trouble falling asleep second night but I got up ate some food (was hungry, because the sertraline has my appetite suppressed during the day) and drank a glass of warm milk with honey. Fell asleep and slept like a baby. Really felt like an ecstasy trip the first days, subtle Euphoria and that "Christmas's eve feeling", or feeling when you are about to go on a big trip, if you know what I mean. Nothing I feel is impossible to handle. Also I was curled up in bed touching my body and stroking myself and really enjoyed it lol, basically ecstatic feeling and good thing to get in touch with your body, I just feel comfy and cozy. I hope things will calm down in a few days, first time I took them a few years ago I basically became hypomanic and became super sexual. Borderline sex addiction (that was probably triggered by drug use), nothing I regret thought so not a side effect for me. My therapist said that serotonin deficiency makes the brain and nervous system exhausted and that this medicine basically let's your nervous system HEAL itself. During night I have meaningful, vivid dreams, that could be one of those things. It's like you get in touch with your needs and your inner self. Had a lifestyle change a few weeks ago also, stopped doing drugs and so far I feel great, swimming every day and overall in a good calm mood (with slight overenergetic moments but could be the coffee).. I used amphetamine to keep myself afloat these past two years, but it doesn't heal the underlying problems and created bad sleeping hygiene occasionally and a even more severe sex addiction with self-destructive tendencies and dangerous from an STD perspective but I'm on Prep meds and thankful I didn't catch HIV. Just got tired of that lifestyle and constant partying and sex 24/7 and have had this inner will to change my life for some time. I felt I wasn't happy with myself from a bigger perspective. So I stopped one day. I'm not the stepping up or stepping down person, like to go all on or all off directly, so that's why I started with 100 mg directly, but I did it because I'm familiar with this medicine and wouldn't recommend anyone to do the same. Stepping upp slowly is definitely the way to go for most people.

My panic attacks and anxiety is not as bad as it was but I still have this feeling of stress radiating throughout my body. It's an icky, static feeling and I'm gonna go on 100mg

I went up to 75mg then 100mg and I’ve been at 100mg for a month now. So far, so good. I feel better already. I was worried about weight gain though as I immediately because unable to stop eating. It’s calmed down now but I’m still craving muffins and sugary baked goods every day.......

Hi I started sertaline on 25 then I was upped slowly to 50 then 75 then 100mg. I have just had my review I was on 100mg for 7 weeks and the gp said to go up again to 125mg. I've been on the upped dose 4 days im hoping I will level out on this dose as 100mg was good but I kept having dips emotionally. My sleep is not great but the gp said it should improve. I think it was at least 6 weeks on my new dose before I felt like it was working its very gradual.

Higher and lower doses very rarely work I went up to 100mg and started hearing voices. I have never heard voices before so I stayed on 50mg and upped psychotherapy. Join a walk and talk via Facebook. If there isn't one then start one yourself. I go to one in swansea and we have had people from Australia and Germany turn up so people will find you online. Sometimes there has been around 30 people turn up it's always a laugh and full of understanding people. It makes you realise that your not a nutter and just how many people have these issues. Ptsd , ocd , sad , gad, bi polar it's all relative. I know people with all these issues that cope better than I do do with GAD and MDD and I also know people with these disorders that don't cope better than me but I wouldn't have known anything unless I found these walks. I hadn't laughed for years and if I did it felt false or the laughter of a madman but when I am around likeminded people I proper belly laugh. Some people respond well to medication but it's never a cure. If your ill daily then you need to treat it daily and not as and when it feels to late and the grim reaper starts lurking. When your ill you have to stay proactive or your symptoms will become even worse and so will your triggers. It's like one part of the brain wants to work and the other part wants to corrupt everything. Luckily I was born with two brains 🧠 🧠 😆 🤣 😂 😹.
