As a born West Virginian, I can testify to the beauty of this state. Almost Heaven is the state moto but it is a historical wonderland for the industrial revolution in the United States. The people for the most part are poor in money but rich in tradition and love for the land. I am a proud West Virginia Mountaineer. Thanks for the video.
We loved your day trip and how you still make it fun and eventful. You encourage us that are just starting out. We also love Deb’s love of animals! Keep up the great adventures.
09:51 That tree trunk was completely blocking the trail when I was out there about month before you guys. I had to turn around and go back because of it, and take the long way to Thurmond. Glad to see it's been cleared!
I grew up in Oak Hill (‘77-‘85) and I used to spend a lot of time in the Gorge as well as Thurmond. I remember watching the progress of the bridge during our trips from VA to WV before we moved to Oak Hill and I was at each bridge day from the first one to 1984. I found McKendree road by accident several years ago when I visited there with my oldest daughter. Great ride in the Jeep. Also a great place for berry picking. Cheers!
our family took this same route back in 95 and it was in the summer. one solid week was so fun. we seen rattle snakes and water moccisans and just every kind of wildlife, even saw a black bear and a bobcat. i have that video on vhs somewhere now im tempted to find it. Thanks for the share. nice trip, happy travels in life
My wife and I love doing road trips into West Virginia, though it's been a while since we've done one lately. Life's been a little hectic lately, and can't seem to get free. FYI, did you know that you can walk under the new river gorge bridge on the maintenance catwalk? After pestering my wife enough about doing it, she finally said yes, probably just to get me to quit pestering her, LOL. Either way, once we walked the catwalk, she was looking forward to doing it again. So if height isn't an issue, y'all should definitely do the adventure at least once. Be sure to call ahead for an appointment, or that's the way it was for us. Here's hoping safety as you adventure. 🫡🫡👍👍👊👊✌️✌️
Fun to watch this tonight. I’m actually taking the day off tomorrow to explore some back roads near me in southern Ohio. Really enjoy what you all share.
Been all over these parts. Funny when you was at Babcock that Pepsi bottle on the rocks was there when I had Joey the Brofessor and BatsOffRoad there a few days before
I came down the same road you went up from Sandstone Falls a few weeks ago. I was working on a cell tower up on the mountain and we took our lunch break at the falls when we finished.
I enjoyed the video and NRG as well! I spent a week camping around the park (mostly at that one dispersed site near Thayer) right after the Overland ExpoEast. McKendree rd was one of the highlights for sure!
The NRG is great! I travel there a few times a year for Mtn biking, climbing, rafting and general exploring. Mckendree is great. You hit it at the perfect time of year. It’s a real bummer that there aren’t more dispersed camping areas though.
Very nice video and commentary, thinking of going this weekend will be driving my Mojave from Rockville, MD. Planning on doing the OFF ROAD trail. Like your bed cap and Rtt, would appreciate if you could share what brand your bed cap is. Thank you for sharing your memories.
Absolutely enjoyed it! My Dad, who was born and raised in a little town called Spruce, always talked about the New River. Spruce is NE of where you were and since been abandoned. Thanks for showing us this neat area. It's on my bucket list. Was thinking of going over when SMOR was supposed to be but apparently not happening this year. And Mom (AKA Deb) the goat is home!
Beautiful area! Love the old grist mills. Do you ever come across the smaller tub mills? The tub mills were generally the precursor to the larger mills were used mostly by a single family.
Hello Tim and Deb I was wondering what happened with Kelly I didn't see him in the vedio his ram still kicking or did it finally kick the bucket on him now lolololol
We are very happy with the bins. They offer a lot of storage and organizing opportunities. In addition to that, it also helped frame up the upper tray.
Y’all should’ve checked out Nallen, WV! There’s a nice little waterfall there that you can actually drive on and snap some pics. I need to drive through the old route for the Gorge. Always beautiful in Fayette Co
@@alexeisenhardt9299 the address is 4490 Propps Ridge Rd, Nallen, WV 26680. At one point the road changes to gravel/dirt, but you really can’t miss it. Now I’m not sure about the current status of the roads that way due to some recent flooding. I believe it is actually called Glade Creek Falls. Great photo op for your vehicles too!
You folks sure do find the scenic and historic places. How do you plan your destinations and routes? I would like to metal detect those old dwelling sites! Too many people died building that tunnel :-(
Thank you. We typically just decide on an area and research the roads or trails using GaiaGPS. Yes, to many lives we're lost there. The real tragedy was the fact that they all died slowly from silica dust exposure.
That area used to be a lot of "off road" fun until the NPS took over! I bet they close down more gravel/ dirt road before long. Un.less it goes to a campground or similar, they will close it to motor vehicles

Love the old mining towns. Thanks Bill & Deb!!!!
Thanks for following along.

Good to see you in my "backyard office" ...... I've been guiding on the New and Gauley since 1989......

Certainly a nice day trip. It's great to live in an area where this is possible. Nice video.

Incredible scenery, great work as always 👍

Such quality! I've spent much time in the NRG, but you took me places I've never been or would want to go in my tiny 4 cylinder car.
Thanks!
Really nice road trip, with some great views!!! Thanks for sharing and adding some areas for me to try out!!!
You won't be disappointed. Once again thanks for watching.
Awesome place and great video again!
Thank you!
Beautiful
Thank you.
Being our home state, we love your content from WV! Our Jeep is almost ready to hit some trails and would love to see you out there sometime.
Would be great to see you out there. Let us know when it's done maybe we can meet up.

I like this video 👍👍👍

There is a platform for one in Knott Co KY. But we have not seen one intact
Saw one near Gatlinburg, tn
Nice vid. I want to do a trip soon, it'd be fun to accompany someone who knows what they're doing so let me know if you're interested

It was very cool!
Would love to know when you have another ride and try to join you!

I have been on that road twice in my Jeep and it can get sketchy in places.
It can be a little tight..
Wow! You were in our neck of the woods.
Great area!

Kelly just didn't happen to be with us on this trip. -Bill..

Yes it is
Fayetteville is my hometown. Gotta try Pies and Pints when you're in the area.
Beautiful backyard you have. We will have to try that next time. We had dinner at Firecreek BBQ before we left for home.
Me and the wife’s favorite videos on UA-cam! Are you guys running the stock driveshafts on that setup?
Hey guys thank you, we are running stock driveshafts.
That’s a narrow looking bridge going into that ghost town
It is.
That area used to be a lot of "off road" fun until the NPS took over! I bet they close down more gravel/ dirt road before long. Un.less it goes to a campground or similar, they will close it to motor vehicles

keep an eye out for sasquatch
Thats right.
Good one Coddi..!
Thanks!
awesome trip!
It was.
Was there 4/04/2024
Cool!
What route did you take for this trip, we are located in central KY.
We did not record the tracks but you can email us and we can give you the route we took contact@coddiwomple-overland.com
How do you find backroads to get where you’re going?
We use Gaia and the MVUM layer to find the forest service road and just start exploring.
@@CoddiwompleOverland thank you so much for the reply, I love the channel and I’ve been showing everyone who will listen. Keep up the awesome work!

Thank you!
What was down the bank there at 11:29
It appeared to be where people had put kayaks or small boat in. We thought it may have been a campsite.
About how long was that trip mileage wise?
Not really sure we did not map it, just drove around.
When did you get the new whip?
Whip?
@@CoddiwompleOverland the Gladiator? Whip is a slang word for ride or vehicle.
Ohhh. Gotcha, we have had it since October
@@CoddiwompleOverland do you still have the JK? I missed the new addition some how.

How did you find the side roads you traveled on
Seen them on the map as we were passing.
