Great piece you've made here , highly educational as well as entertaining. Thurman what a time piece . The New river gorge some of America's most beautiful country and the people are so friendly....
Your next trip you should take Rte. 60 to Fayetteville, if coming from Charleston. Or Rte 16 to Rte 60 from Fayetteville. Beautiful scenery and drive that's missed too much because everyone tends to stay on the Interstate. For one, you'll see where the New River and the Gauley River dumps into the Kanawha River. There's also waterfalls and just a beautiful drive.
I really enjoyed this video! I have a trip this week to New River Gorge and watching this really helped me plan. :) Thank you so much for filming and sharing!
Super complete video. Thank you so much for your contribution. I'm trying to make an itinerary for visiting this place and this video has been very usefull.
It may be the 2nd oldest river in the world with only the Nile being older I discovered when there several times. The Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad runs through the gorge and is where John Henry beat the steam hammer at Talcott, WV (not in the gorge).
Thanks, this was very interesting and helpful. We’re planning on visiting in spring 2024 with some elderly family members. So we’ll be a little limited as far as activities go. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Will definitely check out your coal mine video.
You can do some with elderly family members. Visit the bridge and the train station. Grand View is also easy to do from the parking lot and the waterfalls on the southern end of the park.

Wow - thank you so much for posting this. We are headed out there in the next few weeks and this helps us figure out what to do. Are there any hidden gems for lunch/dinner that any of you would recommend?
You can go rafting on the river, so anywhere safe (not at rapids). I don't know about places to stay. We stayed at an AirBnB. It was great but the location is too far from the main sights so I wouldn't recommend it.
There are many places to go swimming and campgrounds along the river. However, you really need to be a strong swimmer and be extra careful of undercurrents. The Indians called it the river of death for a reason. Plenty of Hotels in Beckley and surrounding area. Beckley is pretty much the central town for all of the areas of the park.
not counting the 4 I have not visited, #1 is Yellowstone. I have a few that could be least....not sure which ones. For one thing, I don't think Gateway Arch should be a "National Park". It's still fun to visit, just shouldn't be a flagship National Park.
Yeah, I wrote that comment long before you posted that video about your favorite national parks. That being said, I could guess that Yellowstone is your favorite. It's everybody's favorite. I guess except for mine. Screw that crowd. Maybe I put too much emphasis on crowds but that's just me. Completely ruins the experience. It has to at least be a factor, not just scenery, the entire experience has to be factored in and I don't go to national parks to be stuck in rush hour traffic like I'm in f'ing LA. If i wanted that I'd go to f'ing LA.
I love your video but have to say the music was such a hindrance. Had to rewind a few times to hear the names right. Please cut down the music in future videos if you can
I went here with my best friend and it was so incredibly beautiful! I would go back!

Shadows of the clouds rolling over the mountains....Majestic
Yes!
One of the best times to visit New River Gorge National Park is in late October on "Bridge Day." The fall colors of the trees are beautiful.
Yes! We tried and due to increase in Covid that year, bridge day was cancelled almost last minute.
This is a wonderfully edited video! Super informational and easy to watch. Subscribed!
Awesome, thank you!
I subscribed! Can't wait to visit some day.
Thanks and hope you enjoyed the video.
Me too! Got my sub! I've drove over numerous times and walked down the steps once like 20 years ago way before it was a national park!
Keep up the fine work. Yours are the best of all the national park channels. Thanks for your careful and thorough work.

Glad it was helpful! We did not find any restaurants to write home about.
is there anywhere to swim on the river? where are the best little places to stay?

What you like better new river gorge or Shenandoah ?
New River Gorge, for sure. Much more variety and better scenery.
❤
We are rafting in May. Should I wear a wetsuit top or will I be fine in a regular shirt?
I can't tell you because I have not done that.
Parts of,the park are open to hunting during open season
Yes, New River Gorge is a National Park and a Preserve. The preserve part of it is used for hunting at times.
So what is your favorite and least favorite National Park?
not counting the 4 I have not visited, #1 is Yellowstone. I have a few that could be least....not sure which ones. For one thing, I don't think Gateway Arch should be a "National Park". It's still fun to visit, just shouldn't be a flagship National Park.

Sorry about that. The newer ones have music turned down.
Very informative and nicely done! Just please stop using that distracting and annoying background music 😬.
Got it.
Lovely video, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent video! Thank you!!
