- Thanks for joining me! Here are some resources I mention:
Ravelry.com. (Groups I belong to include “Natural dyeing” and “Plants to Dye For”)
www.dharmatrad...
www.jacquardpr...
Books on dyeing that I own and love:

Any book found on their site I would assume is likely full of good information; their business is selling more, so they’re not likely to pass around bad info.
The free resources on dharmatrading.com and the dye manufacturers’ websites are also usually fantastic!
Thanks for the information about the dye process. I have wondered about the cost of hand dyed fabrics. Now I understand the work involved and the quality of the dyes used.
Thanks for all the tips Amy! I have never dyed my own fabric yet but have been thinking about it for a while. I am always worried I will do it wrong and ruin my stitching so it was so good to hear all the knowledge you have accumulated 💕
Thanks for watching!
This was super informative and most appreciated. I have not bought any hand-dyeds fabrics and floss because I need to wash my projects and have been thinking about dyeing at home. Will look forward to your video which I know will be many months down the road. Take care, continue your recovery and thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Thank you Amy for this very informative video. It was a joy to listen to while stitching. It is clear to me you know your where you are talking about. Just like you I dive into a subject, learning as much as possible. Processing fleece, dying, spinning yarn, knitting I am very familiar working with protein fibers, so easy to dye with acid dyes. Dying cellulose fibers I find a lot more involved to get lasting results with as least a waste as possible. Especially the amount of water to rinse the fabric clear of excess dye and seeing it disappear into the sink. A lot of wastage. I someday hope to find a method the is more friendly for our resources and environment
I completely agree! My primary love with dyeing is definitely natural dyes. Especially when I gather my own dyestuffs. I hope to have my own dyer’s garden one day. Thanks for watching!
I really enjoyed this video learning about dyeing, while I was stitching, thank you.
😊❤️
Thanks so much for your wealth of information! I’ve dyed once with rit dye, but now want to try other dyes after watching your video. Look forward to your dyeing video when you’re up and about. Take care!
Thanks so much!
That was a wonderful video to listen to, thank you for taking the time to make it! Learned a lot of new things from this and I will def be looking to purchase those lightfast, colourfast dyes! Keen on reading those books too.
Thanks! ❤️
@@fiberartsamy2654 saved this vid to my resources playlist, cause I know I'll be referring to it often
Thanks, Amy. Very interesting!
Thanks for watching. 😊
@@fiberartsamy2654 You're welcome.. It was very enlightening and if people listen to you, they could avoid some pitfalls that could potentially ruin a hard worked piece if they're uninformed about fabric that is dyed by an "amateur." Take care.
Schön thanks you
🐨👍
Awe thank g I watched your video today. I was gonna try to set my fabric with a vinegar wash this coming weekend. As someone suggested. I guess being lazy saved my fabric. I joined a SAL and I don't like the feel of the stiff fabric and it has wrinkles all over it. It clearly says don't wash fabric or it will bleed. Do you have a suggestion on how to fix it? I want to use it cause it's pretty but I also don't want to cause I can't wash it after I'm done stitching on it. Also those wrinkles won't iron out.
Do you mind sharing the dyer? If I have experience with them it might help me with my suggestion. When I don’t know the dyer I either start by soaking a tiny corner of the fabric that won’t show in water to test for washfastness or I even snip a small rectangle (if I have enough fabric!) to test wash.
@@fiberartsamy2654 It's under the sea fabrics.
@@adriannewyble7311 omg don’t wash it. The one piece of fabric I got from them the dye washed right out; the fabric is now a very light, washed out version of the original vibrant color. Honestly, I might destash it if you don’t want to stitch with it as is. If I have fabrics I can’t wash I either wash them anyway and deal with the lost color or I stitch on them knowing I won’t be able to wash the piece. I’m sorry I don’t have a more helpful answer! Unfortunately there’s nothing you can do at this stage to set the dye.
@@fiberartsamy2654 Awe thank you. This is a lesson learned. Now I have to find a different dyer so I can stitch the earth queen. do you have any suggestions on what dyer to use?
@@adriannewyble7311 there’s so many great dyers out there! I love bestitchme and fabrics by stephanie a lot, and I think they’ll both have some great options, so you might want to start there. No matter what dyer you use I would rinse the fabric before using it if you want to be able to wash the finished piece. Let me know what you choose!
Wanted to watch your video, but apparently you are filming with your phone or something. Sorry, but it’s not interesting . I do hope you recover soon..
