Thank you very much for the information. It’s a big help. I may try the washable first. You made it look like fun and very versatile. But I like the other one too 😊

The washable ones remind me of marabou crayons or the caran d'ache neo aquarelles II. Thanks for sharing.

the washable side has almost a flower petal look to me. i like the ability to lift paint with water. i'd probably get the washable paint sticks. thanks for the awesome review! ....I also like the more muted tones of the washables as well.

I like the more smooth side, but the other side isn't bad though. It would depend on what piece I was working on and going for. I think they are both nice.

Really like the idea of an acrylic paint stick for background work but I’m bummed they are so blunt. Hopefully it’s the start of something new. Thanks for the review I will definitely purchase a set just to play.

I love your channel and I had a request. I want to go to art school, but due to a hereditary issue my dominant hand hurts whenever I try to use it a lot. I was wondering if you would ever consider doing a video about materials or colored pencils that don't need a lot of pressure please. Or maybe one for those with disabilities related to writing. Thanks for another great video. ❤

working with kids in elementary, the ones for the kids (the non-acrylic ones) would be a better fit just because you show us the droplets tricks: they would be amazed and so creative!

Shuttle Art has a similar product, called "tempera sticks". These are water soluable, but when completely dry, it's really hard to get them reactivated and won't stain the next page (I used them a lot in my sketchbook), so they are more like the acrylic Crayolas, but shaped like the washable Crayolas. Shuttle Art has a much bigger color selection and they are really nicely pigmented. I have been using them for about 6 months now and love them. They are not good for small details, but I never planned to use them for that. You can layer pencils on top when the paint dried and get into the small details like that.

These were very interesting! I'm used to using tempera paint sticks, so these would be fun to try. Thanks!
By the way, have you any plans to review the new Ohuhu pencils? You do such thorough testing, and I would love to know what you think. Have a great day!

Have you tried the slick sticks? Somewhat similar. Very easy to lay down for sure.
    They are called slick sticks.

I use my other crayon sticks another way, would love to have seen them tried also. First I color on a pallet, then transfer with a brush. Sometimes I use the crayon on top... second I miss the paper then use the crayon, blends better.

We have to remember that these are mostly made for children! If a child is coloring in coloring books they would most likely use crayons, however they love to color on a blank sheet of paper and that is where these new mediums would be fantastic!

Hey, can you pick up pigment directly from the stick using a brush, like you would with watercolors from a dried pan?

Thanks for the great review and tests of these products. I like the washable ones better as they seem more versatile. I can't see me purchasing either as here in the UK the washable ones are the equivalent of about 25 dollars and the acrylic ones are not available.

Thanks for the review! I think this is one of the first products that I would give a definite “no”. Although I do wonder if you could crumble the water soluble ones and then use them like watercolours? They have a good amount of pigment.

OMS was the wrong solvent to use. Oms is great for oil based colors. Rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer gel will dissolve acrylic water-based paints and not ruin the paper. Also possibly acetone or orange oil based like zest it. OmS will leave an oily residue behind the other solvents will not. Oms will eventually eat away at the paper fibers because the oil infiltrates the fibers and breaks them down over time. The same reason one shouldn't oil paint on a non gessoed paper. The gesso protects the paper from the oil.
