- Part two of the show features a tape of Glen Sherley recorded in a prison yard. Sherley was mentored by Cash, and he enjoyed some success with his music. This was not to last, as Sherley was found dead in 1978 with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Cash's parents appear, as well as June's daughters Carlene and Rosie.
The more I learn about Johnny Cash, the more I like and respect him. Such a great man of humility, wisdom, and forgiving. I envy his friends. RIP Johnny.
I was going to type the same thing, here was a man who stood up and never denied his mistakes, who kept moving ahead and influenced many and was a blessing to those around him. He also wasn't afraid to show his humanity not just in music but even with these people, you can see how moved he was. The Man in Black put the T in tough. I hope to meet you in heaven one day, Mr. Cash.
@@Strive1324L I would have been soo honored to have had his friendship.
Same here.
I've always been a fan, but now that I'm grown and older I can truly appreciate the man in black.
There will never be anybody to equal Johnny Cash RIP.
Hope you are enjoying life with June RIP in your heavenly home !!
!
To see John's eyes begin to water upon receiving such a powerful thank you from an inmate/songwriter is an absolute treasure.
That was the best part of this video!
Glen Sherley was released a few months after this. He was picked up at the gates by Johnny Cash. A few years later, Sherley and his wife divorced, then he wound up working on a cattle ranch. In 1978, Glen Sherley shot and killed a man. Rather than going back to prison, he chose to shoot himself at his brother's house in Gonzales, CA.
Real life, man. Happy endings are really rare.
WoW!!! What a testimony!!! A real genuine authentic life and man!!!
CLASSIC!!! Rare footage!!! Very powerful!!!
Damn that musta broke John's heart hearing about that. Hope they at least tried to give him a boost in his songwriting. When you write it comes easy (i do) but the motivation to get out there sometimes isnt in you.
Wow...He looks so sincere and humble.
He is sincere and humble
That's a great show! It's funny, at the end June is totally impressed by the piece of jewelry but Johnny has only an eye for his son John Carter. :-)
This was a wonderful show. I learned things I didn't know. Did not know he was from such a large family. I love him and June together
Johnny had a very hard life......but no one could deny his God given talent.....
Amen
I’m a fairly new fan of Jonny Cash but I am mesmerized by him, his life story and his music. Although sadly he is physically no longer with us I don’t think Jonny Cash will ever die
Perfectly put! Been a fan since 03. Glad to see he's still making fans. Lots more to come. You seem as humble as him, brother.
Through making Jesus his Lord and Savior he accepted forgiveness by the One who has the right to forgive every man, woman and child.
He has eternal life in Heaven with God.
Right now Johnny is in Heaven with June, his parents and many others.
I can't say exactly what's going on up there but I bet he's still singing and writing everyday.
John knew Jesus.
@@TheMidnightModder even the bible itself says you are dead and then risen again in the second coming not that you go to heaven after death.
@@sumtingwong8768 It depends on how you interpret it. Theologians disagree on it so I take Jesus's words "Today you will be with me in Paradise." to finish it off.
I think you're misinterpreting, ignoring literary style and ignoring context if you legitimately think we remain dead until the second coming.
I thought it was awesome how they celebrated the man like that. We need to do this more, perhaps it'll motivate our younger Generations to understand life better.
Agreed.
A big man in every way, Johnny Cash we will never forget you...
Country legend, strength and sensitivity and soul.
When Johnny saw Glen in that video it looked like Johnny started to cry.
When the Man In Black starts to cry, you know it's something meaningful.
His life really is a movie. We were blessed to be in his presence. When people think of the 50s and 60s music they think of elvis alot and I don't think John reallly gets enough credit for his work and what he's done for the music industry. A man of courage and great strength
From Lafayette, GA...Johnny was an inspiration, a survivor and a personal hero to millions...not only that but he was a genuinely humble, kind and lovely human being..
Hello I'm from Lafayette to.lok
This was incredibly sweet! John and June💝😁🙏
Loved the "This is Your Life Show" of Johnny Cash!!!!!!!
He sure loved his children and his son was special.
Loved this , what a humble man he was R I P Johnny & June
Very emotional life. I suppose everyone has ups and downs. We go through tough times to appreciate the good times. Johnny Cash did it well. RIP Johnny and June. Your story and music lives on.
absolutely love johnny cash
Poor Johnny, this is almost too much and too emotional to be exposed to. But with such an unusual and turbulent life, what can you expect? Fascinating to watch!
This is a beautiful tribute to a wonderful man, happiness and sadness in one(2)videos. The world is missing a free spirit that roams now in heaven.
Gosh, I loved this! Thanks for sharing.
I don’t know if I could’ve sat there hearing about all the lows in my life. Johnny took it like a man, but I could see in his eyes how much he wanted it to stop. It was painful to watch. R.I.P Johnny Cash you’ll always be a hero and a legend.
Exactly, well said.
Man, he was really going through a quite emotional roller-coaster. What a life. What a story.-
And he still had over 30 years to live.
yeah, and the high, it´s not bad is his decission
R.I.P. Johny Cash.
God loves your soul and so do I.
Where's sam Phillips of sun records that made him famous for his records
He died before this
@@MrFloppy131 sam phillips was still alive when this was aired joey. He died in 2003 this was 1971.
@@MrFloppy131 Sam Philipps died the same year as John R CASH died. So I don't unterstand either why he didn't show up here./CD
@@corneliadenninger5395 The record company dropped cash .Maybe that is why
I notice that Johnny nods when Ralph Edwards recounts his battle with pill addiction. That shows that he won't lie about those times, and also, he's not proud of them either.
johnny was so thrilled with having a son , u can tell how much he adored him
alwayssme - yeah, he abandoned his four daughters for that trollup, hillbilly June Carter - I used to respect & liked Johnny, but not anymore
@@jolenaagapisou3803 plenty of marriages don't work out . And if the mother of his four daughters did not want to co-parent it sounded more as if she was bitter that he found true love with the famously well known talented June Carter.
Jolena Agapisou Johnny never abandoned his daughters . They were always a part of his life . They were welcomed in his home no matter where he lived .
I agree and you can tell by the way his son talks about him now
Could care less abou this own daighters!
he changed a lot of lifes , what a man to look up to.
WOW Johnny Cash had a huge family
Ed
He was happy to see those people but they hurt him by doing that. Reminding him of all his choices that weren't good. You can tell in his eyes it was heartbreaking for him. You can see that he beat himself up enough over the things he did. He kept grabbing his collar. He did not know what was coming next. the devil is the Accuser Jesus is the victory oh glorious victory that overcomes the world present tense. I can't watch anymore because I don't like to see his eyes wonder what's going to be said in the hurt that I see. I've seen enough
This show was meant to surprise the person they was telling about. Everything the man said was talked over with June and others there. They didn't go in to details on any of it. Only what was already known at that time in the news and people already knew more of what went on with him then they said here. I loved the 100 chicks out of the room. I can just see 100 baby chickens in a motel room in the dresser draws making lots of noise they do. I know my mom use to get them every year when I was a child and they smell too and poop all over the place. What a mess they make. I can just see the maids coming in to clean the room from them. Not they had to sneak them in to the room. What a great time In live then. When things was simple and easy going for everyone. Now days they'd throw the book at you if you did that in a motel today.
For a minute there I thought the guy was going to bring out johnny's drug dealer. Then they bring out the pastor
im sure Vivian loved him too they overlook that
Everyone was gathered for a taping of "The Johnny Cash Show" which aired on ABC from 1969 to 1971. The television series was taped at the old Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. I am sure that Johnny was completely taken by surprise. It's very possible that he taped his television show immediately following this taping of "This I'd Your Life".
I love some of the comments on the video, Johnny was truly a Great man and his greatness shines above all of us who love him for everything he was and remains to be.
First time I saw John in concert Dec.14, 1974 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Last time Jan. 1995 his Miami last show. Hoping he would be back. Got to visit his museum soon. Love you John. R.I.P.
I love Johnny cash music and there's no one like him.hes the great Johnny cash.
Magical legend😍
Greatest country singers of all time imo
Johnny Cash number 1
Unknown Hinson number 2
Everyone else is a distant third
Der Beste...Johnny Cash ! Ich liebe seinen Musik !
My earliest memories are of my dad and I listening to his music. Something about him that has never left me his true sincerity and honesty in his music/message. Every song tells a story. He lives on in my mind and heart. I play his music every day.
Pořád si vracím,jak ohlásili malého Johna, byl štěstím bez sebe❤❤❤
That was a Blessing to see. How many people loved and respected Mr. Cash. May he Rest in Eternal Peace ✝️☮
Such a humble man. He went through hell and back again. Such a truly awesome man.
You could tell Johnny wasn't liking what was going on i think June realized be wasn't having fun
Private as he was I can't imagine why they did this to him or thought he'd enjoy having his most personal details - a letter he wrote read on tv?! - shared without his planning. He clearly isn't one to yell surprise at in front of all the world. What a mistake
Johnny was very handsome
Johnny cash and June will always be remembered
It's a shame his own daughters couldn't have been there
What a man love him. He wIll be singing with June in god beautiful gardens. Love you both.xx
This is completely amazing and God Blessed Johnny Cash with every single person on that stage.
God gave him every single angle that was needed to carry him thru his time of need. he continue on his journey of living life to it fullest Thanks to prayers & God hands. Johnny was truly a Blessed Man.
Hello I'm johnny cash
I hope I find someone to care about me the way he did! He lit up when he introduced her!
June was hott
I love you so much Johnny Cash .. Rip..
Marty rob I a Johnny cash
Water success story we need more stories like just told to us every day God bless Johnny in June
wow thanks for this video!!
P.S Reese is so beautiful :O
once June comes out it's like she's realizing just how awful this show would be for him. Like this host was just ruthless. The way he won't let her go... He was known for not liking to talk about himself and for her to talk in those situations to help him along. He's basically a sitting duck in this whole thing, and once she's near him, he holds on tight and I can understand why.
"ruthless" is a poor way to describe it I think...however, you are spot on. The Interviewer was right to the point.
And yes, he "holds on tight"...this is the dependence you have in a serious 'LTR', your partner is your support, and what you 'need' to make it through.
"co-dependence"
If you notice he whispered something in her ear. Probably something like, "This guy is an asshole."
It melts my heart, his reaction when she came out. Even more so when his little boy comes out.
Different time, man. Different time
Not really. Nothing ever REALLY changes 🤷♀️
This man went to Jonny for help but it didn't work out he was bad and needed to stay locked up.. Johnny was good to this man.
AWESOME!!! Love that JRC!
Such an inspiration to society all he lived through and looked down on noone and no matter what he was going through he kept his faith in God and remained true to who he was and they could either accept and embrace him and his walk it had no effect on him. His struggle with addiction and the struggles they had growing up he over came so much .
I love how much he smiled at her...he loves her with his where love
He tries so hard to hold back his tears. 🥺
This episode mentions his arrest in my hometown of Lafayette, Ga. in 1967.
My home town also
I remember when Ralph Jones put Johnny Cash in jail and then gave him pills back.
Good God man. I love Johnny Cash but this is the most depressing This Is Your Life I've ever seen. Sherriff's and Psychiatrists...?
Haha My grandfather was the psychiatrist. They were really good friends actually. But you are right, he did look emotional and it did seem depressing.
The Void - it’s called reality, not everything in life is peaches & cream
Well that's right my man BUT they were part of his life in the bad old days. Those people saved him from him self.Remember he was an addict and a drunk before HE SAW THE LIGHT!
The Void - I know, probably the hillbilly’s idea, June Carter, so she could show the whole world how bad off he was till she cane along!! She’s a home wrecker & even took drugs herself
@@jolenaagapisou3803 you must be a desendent of one of his first four girls or related to his ex-wifes family. It's weird that you have so many comments here just to trash June. Haha
This Is Your Life was a good tv show. But like all the great tv entertainment of old that is gone, it was replaced with reality tv.
June is so beautiful, and Johnny is just so handsome and amazing! I can tell that he is thinking of how lucky of a Man that is was at that time. God bless them all.
As his daughter said in a recent interview “ this show was awful and I have to agree. What the heck bringing up past struggles. Felt sorry for him so depressing
Loved this so much!!!!!
what a top man, i like his feelings when he saw glen. rip brother.
thank you I am going to see that a lot of Cash fans get an opportunity to view this.
A big handsome boy, that his huge spirit didn't fit in his body! What I love about him, is that he kept his young inside till the end!
Yeah Johnny, let's discuss in detail your lurid drug life. Would you like to talk about it? Is this shit for real? Don't get me wrong, I got misty- eyed cuz I like Johnny but is this all scripted with Johnny playing his part? Makes me wonder if this is fake news.
Great person, happy to see his loving family
John you remind me of my dad and things i have been through i respect yinz
He just loves his son. Of course his lovely wife June carter
What a difference from Elvis Presley - same roots, same battles but Johnny was a REAL man . Someone at Graceland - just down the road? - must have seen this.....why didn't they get that doctor, who helped save Johnny from his addiction to drugs and make E.P. go into rehab?
That was my grandfather. He actually did talk to Elvis. But he just didn't want to hear it. Johnny was different.
I never got to see Johnny Cash, but I did see his brother Tommy perform a few years ago and I have to say that he was quite good too. R.I.P. Johnny.
This is hard to watch
It's a great wonder that Merle Haggard didn't surprise him on this show. Johnny actually met Merle when he did his first prison concert at San Quentin in 1958. Merle Haggard was serving time for petty theft.
He looks like a troubled man, i can see it, he also looks like a top man a good personal friend type R.I.P big man
Raymond Duke - he should be troubled ( guilt), he abandoned Vivian & four daughters to take up with that hoe, June Carter who couldn’t sing worth a damn! I bet poor Vivian got sick every time she saw those two together on TV. Isn’t it ironic June’s daughter’s were there but not johnnys xcept thru video tape, gee I wonder whose idea that was -
Thanks YT for this wonderful video!
I just absolutely enjoyed every second of this show. I remember as a child my grandmother watched "This is your life and I saw a few episodes, but don't remember this one. I believe that once June came into his life, she made a huge impact on him. When the man mentioned to Johnny about meeting june, he lit up like a Christmas tree. She must have been just what he needed. She believed in him and with the will of God, Johnny git his life back together. Always did live him and his music. And also the fact that Johnny and Elvis were great friends. Just wish Elvis would have accepted help with his battle with the drugs. Johnny and Elvis can sing great songs together now that Johnny has joined him in that blue sky called heaven . May God grant them peace .😇😇
RIP Johnny Cash
Ed
Johns smile .. my god
JOHNNY CASH REAL IS A HEART
OF GOLD FOR SURE I LOVE U ALL
LIKE I LOVE MY FAMILY GOD BLESS U ALL 1 BIG LOVE❤️ HOPEFULLY WE MEET AT SOME POINT IN THIS JOURNEY OF LIFE GOD BLESS US ALL❤️
This is a crazy idea for a show lmaooo
The movie should have been called Ring of Fire because he didn't walk no lines anywhere. June was a great strong woman.
I Walk the Line was written for Johnny's first wife, Vivian, not for June.
CammieInOz - that’s right!! The hillbilly June was a home wrecker & used drugs herself, she ain’t no saint!!!
Jolena Agapisou do your research and tell the correct story. June did not join the Johnny Cash show as a full time member until 1962 (she was part time with them from 1960). Johnny Cash became addicted to drugs starting in 1956. It is a known and well documented fact (by those who were actually there with Johnny on tour, like Marshall Grant and Johnny Western) that June fought like crazy to keep Johnny off drugs, frequently finding and flushing them down the toilet. Even his daughter Rosanne stated that Johnny probably would not have survived if June had not been there - Johnny saved himself in the end but June and God were his inspiration and his support. Also, Johnny’s marriage was in trouble before June came along, and it is well documented that no one could “make” Johnny do anything he did not want to do, Johnny and June fell in love when it was inappropriate to do so but these things do happen because we are human. The divorce was understandably very painful for Vivian (and Vivian was very angry with June, which is also understandable) but Johnny and Vivian were not the first couple to grow apart and divorce. Johnny and June loved each other dearly and dealt with many ups and downs during their 35 year marriage but their love survived and grew, and Johnny’s daughters grew to appreciate and like June (check out the beautiful eulogy Rosanne wrote for June and spoke at June’s funeral - it is in the book Rosanne wrote entitled “Composed”).
Sorry Ronnie Bishop, I meant my reply for Jolena Agapisou
M Suddie Why don’t you read my post again??????? You know RESEARCH!!!!!
The host kept on about his past mistakes it clearly was unsettling for Johnny.
I felt it was a shitty thing to do on national television. Shit. Poor Johnny.
Truly a magical husband and wife
Chris McNee - what’s so magical? The hillbilly was a home wrecker, she told Vivian she’s gonna take her man, Johnny & June both cheated on their spouses, Vivian left with 4 children, I think it’s terrible what he did to her all because of this untalented mongrel who couldn’t even hold a tune & often times forgot the lyrics!! It’s obvious you don’t know much about them
He reminds so much of my father, who passed over 4 yrs ago. My dad was a very strong, & humble man that demanded respect also. He never met a stranger. He also beat his demons with alcohol & pills (tranquilizers). Dad was a Basque Spaniard, his parents grew up on the border of Texas & Mexico, on the Rio Grande near Falcon, Texas. My father also loved Native Americans & married my mother who is 3/4 Cherokee. He was a carpenter & cement finisher. He loved antique cars, old pistols & rifles. Johnny was always for the less fortunate. God bless J.R. & my dad.
wow this is very revealing and touching
I loved this show
His Son completes his Wonderful Life..♥️
Johnny was a man with a deep affection for the Lord. Type of man I’d like to be.
Johnny Depp has very similar mannerisms and likeness to Mr cash plus both very talented thanks for sharing this video
Odd that no one from the Sun people showed up. Phillips, Perkins, Lewis, and that other guy.
PortalVendor Hey. here they talked about Carl Perkins who was still alive and was a part of the "million dollar quartet " at sun records times in the mid 50ties. /CD
HIS EYES LIT UP, AND LOOK AT HIM SMILE WHEN HIS DAUGHTERS SAID HELLO!!!
I'M SURE HE MISSES THEM AND LOVES THEM VERY MUCH!!!!
His face when then said that glen sherley was on video gives me chills
