Le plus beau et le plus grand Macbeth que j'ai jamais vu! Bruson toujours aussi sublime. Sass rarement vue en vidéo est une Lady impressionnante qui rappelle Callas dans ses inflexions vocales et son jeu. Bergonzi avec sa voix d'or me donne toujours beaucoup d'émotions et Ghiuselev ...quelle voix! Previtali donne une direction tendue, jamais caricaturale. La mise en scène magnifique avec son décor unique qui rappelle Wieland Wagner, loin de toutes ces horreurs actuelles. Bref sublimissime. Quel dommage qu'il n'y ai pas un DVD officiel de la RAI
Thanks for posting this sublime performance. The singers, even in the lesser roles, sang and acted spectacularly well, and their voices came through clearly so I could understand a lot without subtitles. Bruson especially. His "Pieta, rispetto, amore" was so beautifully and movingly sung. Sass was chilling; I'd never seen her before. Bergonzi is one of my favorites and he was in top form here. Ghiuselev is one I need to hear more of. Even the murderer who tells Macbeth the bad news had an amazing voice. Will definitely listen to this again.
So far, this and the La Scala Shirley Verrett & Piero Cappuccilli version are my favorites. An excellent cast complimented by superb sets, costumes, staging and direction; a glorious tribute to the spirit of Verdi tradition. The ballet is a great surprise and exquisitely incorporated into the beginning of the 3rd act, so I guess this is a staging of the 1865 "Paris revision"? The choreography is lovely and engaging, unlike some of the tedious ballet sequences in certain productions of Les Troyens and Prince Igor.

Meglio della Sass certamente la Verret e ovviamente la Divina. Bruson, Ghiuselev e Bergonzi straordinari: sono cantanti che al giorno d'oggi purtroppo li dobbiamo rimpiangere. Cast degno della Scala di quei tempi e nettamente migliore di quella di oggi.
Bellissimo! Non sapevo dell'esistenza di questo macbeth su youtube. È molto più bello di quello del '97 della Scala con regia di Graham Vick. Bruson titanico, ancora più incredibile da giovane, Ghiuselev bellissimo timbro da basso, Sass e Bergonzi magnifici. Bella scenografia, un piacere da vedere oltre che da ascoltare.🙏🥰

Infatti detesto le scenografie moderne, sempre più pesanti e a volte volgari man mano che si va avanti e si permette a questi scenografi di fare scempiaggini con la scusa di avvicinare i giovani all'opera, cosa che poi non avviene. Per ascoltare i cantanti giovani di oggi mi vedo a volte costretta a girare lo schermo del computer per non vedere. Meno male che su UA-cam esistono ancora capolavori come questo e spero che non vengano eliminati prima o poi. Un saluto!

On the records it was not obvious she could sound enough in this register. I like her artistry and all the ideas that seem to come to her mind when she "lives" this character. She is not afraid of looking and sounding weird or ugly. She drains the full expression of each note like did Callas and Verrett with exultation, fierce joy.

But where is the good picture? Both audio and video are awful. I know this VHS copy, it's been there for ages, with jumping image and color. The performance is very good but the recording is not. Why promote bad videos in such a way?
@@vocalisse This recording is bad indeed. Apart from the picture, the sound is terrible too. VHS just cuts half of the sound off. Click bait that you are doing is not a good idea in the opera world, dislike for this. Singing is great, wish someone took an effort to publish a restored version.
This was a live broadcast, and not prerecorded. You're not going to get a nice HD 4K remaster because the source material isn't improvable to that degree

Bruson is wonderful here. I recall his performance as well in Don Giovanni at the Washington Opera while I was in the Chorus….Thrilling.

For my purpose the value of the recording is in the singing. The quality is certainly good enough to enjoy these great performers.
