A customer of mine bought one of these that was an ex London Met Police Ambulance. Probably the biggest van I've ever seen. That thing was seriously well kitted out and only had 25000 miles on it. Had been laid up for a number of years like this one and I was tasked with getting it running and roadworthy again. Mechanically brilliant but underneath it was quite rusty. Served his company well for many years as a service van
a modern supercar has many electronics cheaply made parts and revs high and won't last as long this engine has millions of KM on it but the odo has reset after hitting 999.999
Diesel engines are simply amazing. When there is fuel and enough power for the starter, they will fire up. That bus is in pretty good condition and a very nice runner. Bit of outside surface rust is easy to fix.
These vehicles were really good, back in the day schools use these as school buses and yet I still see these, I used to be in one as well back when I was a kid. It's such an nostalgic vehicle for me.

nice 22/23 seat bus, those OM904 engines were very good for their time and started off the whole "4 cylinder in place of a 6 cylinder" thing, and are still frequently heard in the UK at the back of some Optare Solo and Versa buses, and sometimes in 4.2 Mercedes-Benz Varios and Ategos themselves.
In Holland the 904 was the sound of a UPS truck coming. As they where vario based for a while. Now slowly fading away as they are replaced with euro 6 ivecos and sprinters

The building of the UK service bus versions of the Vario by Alexander and Plaxton (as used by Arriva, First and Stagecoach until 2009-2011ish) rapidly declined after about 2000 due to low-floor buses and the Solo (in which the engine lived on). But the 814 versions were plated for 43 passengers! (31 seated and 12 standing)

If you find them Old Marc 814 and was parked up running, it don't matter how long ago, fresh fuel and make sure it turns and they will go. They are mint to convert too!..
One of the first MB Vario, narrow bodied bus. The OM904LA engine sounds nice and feels without issues. By the way, that family of Mercedes Engines started the downsizing philosophy: Replace 6 cyl with 4 on same power and torque. That engine powers South America, even in 16 ton Atego trucks.
It’s similar to the 814 vario I used to drive for a company in aberdeen except that my midi coach had two tables in it and my clients loved it. The only thing I hated about her was the weak indicator stalks and also the hand throttle because I couldn’t ever get her to idle below 500 but the garage always put on a governor and every Friday I handed it back to them
I drove one of these many years ago. I remember we had to wait for the air brakes to complete full, for the suspension to start filling in pressure. These busses are very easy to work with.
The more Flexiny Videos I see, the more I believe that Estonia is a place where you just leave your car on the side of the road if you don't need it anymore and someday, someone shows up to take it home, fixing and driving it as the next owner... 😂

As a person who rides a lot I cannot see a lot of differences between old(90-00)th buses and modern ones. The comfort depends only on chairs, which can be replaced if needed.

@@codeforces_hero2409 + too many environmental standards like DPF and Adblue Silent Common rail crap and too much plastic on the cylinder head cover the old ones had no plastic inside the engine like the new ones and they didn't have DPF or Adblue or NOx sensors this specific bus is Euro 2 there is no EGR DPF SCR or Adblue like those built after the 2010s a new engine is a Bluetec Euro 6 Sprinter trash so apparently they are completely different Old and New and New are far worse

It had an MOT 21 august on 2020, and it´s looks like it passed that MOT with some faults on the bodywork and frame. In november, 2023, it was temporary removed from registry. In march 2023 it changed owner, so it´s probly exported from Estonia by now.

When you turn the key on, make sure to see the alternator light lit. The current through this bulb runs through the field winding to create the alternator start up magnetic field. Otherwise, the alternator won't start until it's spinning fast enough to start on residual magnetism, which is unreliable. A new bulb will cure your problem. Once the alternator starts, the field power comes from rectifiers from the rotor which is what makes the alternator light go out. If the alternator doesn't start, the bulb stays lit as the field current doesn't bypass. If a new bulb doesn't light on switch on, the field winding is open, alternator defective.

Especially here in the states. Ethanol blended fuels don't last long in storage without proper additions in them. Even then still not good 😐
