- Gettin' Wood - A short RC video of the FATBETTY logging truck conversion in action at Chaneys Forest, South Island, New Zealand.
When I built FATBETTY I had always wanted to be able to switch out the configuration to different applications so I could get some variety out of her (I get bored easy).
I started with the wood deck because it was easy to make and it gave me a sense of the width required when building the truck (if you check out the build you see I made the wood deck before making the front fenders • Project: Fatbetty - Fo... ).
So far we've only had videos of the truck with the wood deck or the concrete deadman weight (it really helps with traction), so I figured it was about time I got to some of the other configurations I was wanting to do.
I didn't bother to secure the load, so it shifted a bit and the trailer did extend while running, but it seemed to work OK anyway. There is come camera shake, but the driving/filming at the same time is bit tricky.
See the FATBETTY Playlist for more of this truck: • FatBetty - Home made s... - Авто та транспорт
Outstanding outcome. Great detail. Good scale speed. Looks just like a real old weathered veteran log hauler. All of it hand made from scratch. More than enough reason to be proud of. Can't wait to see what your next project is going to be.
montwolfman Thanks man, I am pretty pleased with how it looks in the video. I havn't touched the 8x8 build in months, I really got to get back onto that one.
Amazing. She looks better than ever before =) it"s pretty sick that she manage too pull all that timber, it"s a half house in one load =) great job as allways =)
Janerik Rosland Thank you, yeah, it don't look like much, but there was a bit of weight in the wood.
Wow she's incredible buddy!! Great build! Keep up the good work. RC for life!!!
Thank You Steve!
That thing is wicked pissah! Shout out from Boston, Ma. USA.
Thanks man! Thanks for checking it out.
Kevin McGann ayyyyy another masshole just like me!!! Shout out western Mass!!! 413 or die! Hahaha
I liked how U had it look like a folded up logging jinker. Awesome video and truck.
Thank You very much!
Outstanding truck build.
+P Wise Thanks man. Cheers for checking it out and taking the time to comment.
That is one badass truck... very nice work!!
Thank you very much!
Man that log truck is killer .
+Ronnie Lemaster Cheers mate!
man I hope you make more videos on this truck is probably the coolest RC I've seen built yet
Thanks man, I have been so busy with builds I have not done a running video in some time.
Awesome Truck !!! - Thought I was in a game of Spintires :-)
Great truck !
One word, "tripod". Very nice build.
hehe, yeah, a bit rough eh. I have since got a camera gimbal. This is a pretty old video.
Wow fantastic , i also love the sound !!!
joehoncho Thanks man! I really like the sound unit, it has a cool sound set on it.
cyanidetube What is the weight of the truck , it flexes like a real truck so it must be heavy .
joehoncho The tractor unit is about 10kg with the wooden deck on it, not sure about the logging trailer and its load.
wow, with the correct angle os cameri, this loock like a real monster!!
Obrigado amigo.
really awesome job yar no words to say
Thank you mate!
that looks really good .
coolest truck.
dragon model Thanks man!
Hei Cianne nice vídeo, good job you are the best my friend.
Valdir Alves Thank you very much!
Well done, I thought I was looking at a full sized rig.
Thank you!
You did a great job on that truck! Very cool.
+Deep South R/C Thank you! Just checked out your channel, subbed ;o)
+cyanidetube Thanks! I am just getting into scale construction and I have the bug for a hauler bad after watching your videos lol.
Wow... Very good work buddy! This pretty truck has so many cool details! It look's so realistic :)
Thank you very much!
cyanidetube
No problem :)
excellent truck, very well done
Thank you!
Spin Tires for real.lol
Looking good my friend. Thumbsup
RC Crawler Workbench hehe, thanks man, I havn't played Spin Tires yet, my laptop couldn't play the demo.
Being a City Slicker, I always wondered where telephone poles came from, now I know!
Now, enough about the truck, where's this RC I came to see?
To me this is priceless!
What a brilliant truck well done excellent job mate !! I wonder if there's some way you could make smoke come out the exhaust stack !! Seeya Rob
Probably could not fit a smoke unit in that truck, I do plan on having a smoke unit in the 8x8 truck build though: ua-cam.com/play/PLr9OWm93ukLs5MFoPvhUCptlDbuV11NJ-.html
So lifelike! It would be a daily adventure hearing an old rig like that around on the woods again. I was in the trucking business for 45 years but I've retired since 2015. I can't tell you how much company these RC channels are to me, especially with the pandemic.l don't get out much. Are you ever going to finish that old Freightliner?😎
Thank you sir! and yes I am trying to get some time to get back to the Freightliner. Hope to be back at it soon. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Looks good dude hauling NZ lumber
UZSGAS Cheers bro! subbed to your channel, I love the alloy RC fishing boat you made, nice.
Cool
Excellent Build!!! No other words for it imho. I'm biased because we both build steel trucks but in any case, she's a beauty. Incredibly well done Sir, one of the best RC Truck builds I've seen on you tube yet, that's why I subbed your channel just wish there was a more than "like" option, I'd have given it 😉. Very good videos as well & please keep them coming. Cheers from Calgary Alberta.
Thanks very much mate. I am mainly building steel RC rat rods at the moment, but still have an 8x8 truck build in the works.
cyanidetube yeah I'm doing 3 big boats (1:16 scale cabin cruisers) at present but always have a pickup or semi on the go as well. Just getting back into RC tho so have heaps of catchup learning to do huh. Take care Cy, glad to hear y'all are well again, Cheers!
Great Video my friend 💪🏼❤️
Love the sound 🔥
Great, spintires in real!
I just watched " Duel " again , I've seen it dozens of times , then came across your video . The truck in the film would be good for someone like yourself to build . It appears to be a Peterbuilt from the early to mid 60s but I don't know a whole lot about trucks . If anyone could do it it would be you and would be a really cool project .
+Billy C. LeWorth yeah, that's a cool movie. I think I've seen an RC version of that truck that someone made using the Tamiya 1/14 platform on youtube somewhere.
cyanidetube
I'd like to see that or a Road Warrior Mack truck with the tanker
Billy C. LeWorth fuckin' eh! The road warrior Mack and trlr would be super cool!
i shared you're video on my facebook page RC Semi Offroad Trucks
spin tyres rc edition cool
Awesome
That's one of the coolest trucks I have ever seen
fr
That truck sure is a power house...
She's been known to eat a few drive shafts. Got that sorted now though I think.
+cyanidetube what was your solution? I could use it in my build.
Slight adjustment to a rear linkage to stop the axle rolling forward too much, but mainly switching to MIP X-CVD Driveshafts. Those things are tough.
+cyanidetube thanks for the tip. Any other suggestions?
nah, that's all I did, so far it has held.
nice video!! detail is good!!
Thank you!
J'adore. Impressionnant....
Je veux le même ;-)
Nice video, great job. Next , Fatbetty on the moon?
j m jmp.mtbn haha, not sure, I havn't done a Betty on the Beach video yet, but I don''t think it will do well in the sand.
She works great! Too bad we live so far apart. With my KW and FATBETTY hauling together we could move a fair bit of wood!
RCP57 Yeah, that would be great! It don't look like much, but there was a bit of weight in that little bundle of logs, it could still take more though I think.
cyanidetube I think your truck looks great! You made it all yourself except for the rear axles didn't you? That means a lot more to me than something that looks very shiny and show worthy but is built from kit parts. I believe you achieved the look you were going for perfectly. It wasn't built to look pretty, it was meant to work! If you had built it with beauty in mind then it would have shined! You did a great job and should be very proud.
RCP57 Thanks very much man, it means a lot! Yeah, the drive chain is 3rd party RC stuff, and maybe the odd link here and there, but the rest is home made. Yep, she's got the 'paddock hack' or 'bone yard rescued' look about her alright! She is more rusty than when I made it and give it a salt water spray to start the 'natural weathering process', but I like 'em like that, to me it tells a story of a life more than the shiny new look would and that was what I wanted it to do. To be honest after the salt water licks the steel has weathered it's self so I can't claim any weathering technique skills, it's just rust being rust lol. I like Rat Rods for the same reason I think, the motley home made look.
cyanidetube For sure. I get kinda pissed at shows because everyone assumes that my trucks/machines are all plastic like most other peoples. I am not modelling my current KW after a particular real truck so my plan is to leave it unpainted. That way people will realize that my stuff is mostly hand made from metal. Kinda makes us unique wouldn't you say? Much like Headquake building from wood. Very cool and out of the norm. Is there an MX track or something where you were playing? Thought I heard a 450 brap!
RCP57 yep, there was a motor bike track near by and everyone was making use of the sunny day. I'm glad to be able to see and share the creative home made RC out there on YT, I like the guy that does chain drive RC and scale up to 1:1 and the steam punk RC is cool too.
Wow, brother. 👍👍👍👍
che me encanto la maquina !! muy bueno!!
Muito obrigado
awesome truck but you need to change the name from fatt betty to THE BEAST
I want to this one plz tell me price truck of scania
if you slow the frame rates down to half speed at 60fps to 30 it will look much better moving
great truck
joker rc yeah, my camcorder ain't flash and is not high frame rate so if I slow it down it can look a little choppy. I can film at 60fps with my Gopro, but that is on the fritz and keeps crashing.
Hi

Thank You!
cool
nice..
Thank you! Cheers!
looks like an old dodge... nice!
Thanks mate!
How long will Betty run on a charge? As a rule I don't like big girls. But Betty is the exception not the rule
+Bob Ordewald Not sure, I have not ran the battery out on a run yet, but I havn't done really long runs though. Most runs have been an hour or so of play so far.
Hermoso !!!
Gracias!
What happened to Fatbetty
She is still about. I just edited up and running video with it, should be out in a week or so. The last running video I did is here: ua-cam.com/video/aj4FsXlRWDg/v-deo.html
I want that truck. Soo bad. Build me one man ill pay!!
Wowww sipppp
think u got wood damn Tacoma matt mann 1
Lamo
as a matter of fact what's your I don't want to sell it price and I probably pay it...😁
It would be very hard to part with. Took 2 years to build and was a labor of love. Also, my partner just reminded me it is hers lol.
cyanidetube I'll bet.. I'd have a really hard time letting that truck go too. your gonna have to build a war torn tank on a trailer for that truck. what really makes me nostalgic is Kelly's Hero's, the opening scene has a 6x that looks really close. on of my favorite movies
Very small wheels!!!
bedt vido
ive always been into r/c but im not sure i get this... racing, yes. flying, yes. pretending to work, not so sure.
I don't drive a truck or work in the logging industry so I don't feel that. Just playing.
John Smith it's about scaling. Making a miniature that in a picture would fool you into thinking it's a full size. A lot of things seem strange when you've never done it before or haven't experienced the serious amount of fun these can be when you're the driver. It would be awesome if he had an excavator with a grapple on it so he could load the wood with a machine. Gotta be open minded.
Mr. SMITH obviously doesnt get it, it called scale, you build something whatever it is to scale ( same dimension only 1/10,1/12, ) or whatever size you choose then you you fill it with all the details that you can. Doesnt need a reason, just do it.
