my local junkyard gets these engines in all the time its kind of sad how people throw perfectly good engines out but that means more for us engine collectors!
@@805ROADKING what’s up Road King, I wanted to ask how you paint you engines? Also, Can I use the basic high temp spray paint they sell at the hardware stores?
I just did mine white yesterday too ! Same model. But alcohol and I bored it out and hogged the intake and changed valves to 5hp. She hits 10hp on the dunk at 7000rpm.
You showed this Briggs some real love there RoadKing!! Looks great and has plenty of life left in it!Look forward to some more restores...I could watch those all the time!Oh yeah, Happy Fadda's (as they say in your part of the USA) Day too! Nuffa dis!
i have the old briggs repair manual along with some other briggs issued manuals. i also scored some small engine repair manuals that have reo, clinton, wisconsin, etc repair procedures and specs.... for free i was more than happy to have them.
You have the air filter right , it goes forward unless whatever it's on dictates different .Wish I had a $100 bill for every one of those springs I've replaced . Great rebuild !!!
I am watching as I comment gotta paint it. I have the red manual. It has been a "cold" type of spring here too. You are working late. Those days are done for me.
"I don't want to put a lot of time into this." "I don't want to replace a lot of parts, it's not gonna be worth trying to sell it." "I don't want to take it down to bare aluminum." The man just can't help it - sees an engine that needs a little love, he goes all out in spite of himself! Happy Father's Day! Your "boy" looks great!
I removed my dipstick though, and drilled a threaded oil return hole at the top of the oil reservoir and got me a small oil pump and in line filter and now I don’t have to worry about the dipstick breaking off and the crank will always be bathed in oil by the oil pump.
Ooh! That fresh white paint looks fantastic! Never thought about throwing some shellac on bolts, that's a great idea that I'll have to use in the future. Thanks for that! Good stuff as always, roadking. "Next!" :D
Damn it, it's amazing how a small project turns into a whole restoration. Alright alright. Thank you for this video sir it will help me in about a month when I dive into mine. But I wonder, can I get a pz19 carb and relocate my gas tank to frame of bike? Do you think this would gain me some clearance as well as update the carburetor system?
I'm working on a 3hp Briggs for my bike just an alternative to driving a vehicle around during the summer. I believe it's the same year and came off a edger. Carburetor is a lot simpler then your's though. No diaphragm, goes strait out rather then a slant, has no crankcase return feed. I may change it though I want to run the engine on different fuels like a model A would and don't want to risk bursts of alcohol running through the carb and blowing the engine up/ burning the piston lol! It's a very sloppy running engine but that's the way it was since new from what I was told.
Good lort, I watched Part 1, then Part 2, then Part 3, then Part 4, and finally the first half of Part 5....all just so I could see how the carb springs, governor setup, etc was all installed to make sure the one I have is put on correctly. But for some reason, out of the 5 different videos, that part was left completely out lol. Oh well, you win some and you lose some haha.
I think that's the first time I see you pull a starter cord! It turned out really nice, Roadking. Do you think you'll get your money back out of it and maybe a bit more?
Sweeeeet lil engine Mon Ami....... I love those older Horizontals just like you do.... I have quite a few myself..... 2 HP to the 5 HP...... Some future projects for me to do........ Did you put the new pump diaphram in it to make it cold start easier ??? Plus Tard Mon Ami..... BTW I am sending you a PM ............
Oops I forgot that You Tube isn't doing messaging any more..... Anyway I'll post my number on here..... 337 466 3685 Give me a ring from 3 pm until 1 am in the morning.. Yep I keep late hours also..... Plus Tard Mon Ami ~!~!
Hey ROADKING, I was wondering if this engine was left outside on or near grass, because of the rust that got 'everywhere on that little B&S engine! It looks like a coat of paint makes it look like 'a million bucks!' Anyway,.you've done a good job with that 'restoration', and somebody will be getting a good deal here. Well done ROADKING!
How do you go about rebuilding a carb that has no part numbers on it? I ruined the gaskets in using break cleaner as starting fluid and it has no part numbers anywhere.
Positive Negative I would search the engine number and carburetor in google image search. If you find the carb that matches in an image follow to the site and see if it has any more information. Check each matching image until you find the info. Failing that post some good images to small engin forums asking if anyone can ID the carb. If you can't get an idea of what it is, then ask such forums for information about how to make your own new gaskets etc.
wolvenar problem with that is the this engine of mine is a frankenengine. Different carb, different starter, different muffler but that doesn’t really matter, different shroud.
I really appreciate the time you have in these video's. Working on a similar engine, big help.
Man, you had it looking and running good as new in no time.
Thanks Jeff!!☺
my local junkyard gets these engines in all the time its kind of sad how people throw perfectly good engines out but that means more for us engine collectors!
i got 2 too attack and restore, a 90cc one and one thats on a circular mower.
Road king your paint jobs are Insane. Always blown away by the quality
Thanks alot Johnny!!☺
@@805ROADKING what’s up Road King, I wanted to ask how you paint you engines? Also, Can I use the basic high temp spray paint they sell at the hardware stores?
You don't need High temp paint, regular rustoleum paint and primer can handle the heat from a small engine, they don't get that hot!!
roadking cant help but restoring the engine! it looks beautiful now! i knew you couldnt do a "half" job on it. excellent job as always
Thanks Bud!!☺
Im a old mower freak. And all i can say is you do some amazing work
Thanks alot Bud!!☺
I like this series! I am kinda new to this hobbie, bout 2 yrs now. I really like learning the old school ways of doing things. Thanks for the videos
Thanks for watching Bud!!☺
I just did mine white yesterday too ! Same model. But alcohol and I bored it out and hogged the intake and changed valves to 5hp. She hits 10hp on the dunk at 7000rpm.
Great job on the engine. Very detailed explanation. You get an A+.
Excellent work RK, and i think that engine never looked better in its life or LINE of production. Good work, as always.
Thanks alot Mate!!☺
Just in time! Always something worth watching! Hope you feel better.

Not Australian or Kiwi am I. Lived in Belle Mead NJ for about 2.5 years. Now love and live Arkansas. Mate here is a different thing.
No worries!!☺
Black and white with silver highlights looks great on a Briggs!
Note that paint job for a later project!
You have the air filter right , it goes forward unless whatever it's on dictates different .Wish I had a $100 bill for every one of those springs I've replaced . Great rebuild !!!
Thanks Mate!!☺
You did a fine job there. Nice one RK
Thanks Bud!!☺
I had one of these and rebuilt it got to hear it run before my enlistment came back and it disappeared! I loved that engine! Damn shame
I am watching as I comment gotta paint it. I have the red manual. It has been a "cold" type of spring here too. You are working late. Those days are done for me.
Always nice when a plan comes together. Good job
Thanks Bud!!☺
a little emery cloth will polish up that cranckshaft in no time. Looking pretty!
I was gonna do that but it would look like shit, there are too many pits in it!!☺
looking great and hearing it run brings back memories of that pushmower I had with that engine. That thing was a beast
Thanks Bud!!☺
Good job Roadking 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Bud!!☺
Hi RoadKing. Outstanding job Buddy. I enjoyed the series. I am looking forward to more.

Thanks alot Bud!!☺
Do You have any how to engine repairs for beginners?
Not specifically but alotta my videos have tips and tricks for beginners!!☺
Hi, can you tell me how much oil i should pour into this engine? I dont have manual of it.
Fill it to the bottom of the threads in the fill hole!!
@@805ROADKING Thanks bro!

great job, i look forward to seeing your videos, love these old briggs.

Looks and sounds good. They'll be fighting each other to buy it at one of the shows.
Thanks Bud!!☺
That's a good looking engine, this video is great
Thanks Bud!!☺
beautiful engine wish I lived closer I would buy that one it was made the year I was born.
Thanks Bud!!☺
That engine looks great.
Thanks Bud!!☺
That really turned out nice!
Thanks Bud!!☺
Why does the tecumseh paint hold up so much better
Looks great. Store it with ethanol free gas and some MMO in the gas to keep that diaphram soft.
Thanks Zap!! I wish I could get some ethanol free, they don't sell any in my whole State!!☺
U have to get a billet flywheel though anything above 4K rpm and the cast will explode.
You might have vertical shaft air shroud and air filter. A rotary lawnmower would have starter in this position to go to mower handle.
My thoughts exactly.
Good possibility Bud!! Ya never know what's been done to the things over the years!!☺
Nice job mate. Now take the spark lead off and see if it keeps running as mine does LOL.
15:40 old don't mean weak! you're iron man RK!
Newbie question. Is this engine 4 or 2 stroke?
4
Looks and runs great 👍

Do you have a source for the first book you showed in the video? I looked with no luck. Thanks for your videos your one of my favorite channels.
Thanks alot Bud!! I think I got that one on Ebay!! There are a couple listed on there right now!!☺
I think that's the first time I see you pull a starter cord! It turned out really nice, Roadking. Do you think you'll get your money back out of it and maybe a bit more?
Thanks alot Aaron!! Nah never get my money outta the Engine, but already got 20 times what it's worth from the videos!!☺
Wow, that motor looks way better than it has any right to!
Thanks Bud!!☺
I cut the cord with the flame, it fixes both ends at the same time.
You painted the gas tank, and th inside of the shroud. If one more drop of paint goes on, you might as well go full restoration!!
Runs like a champ there, just need to stick it onto something and give it a job to do... :P
Thanks Mate!!☺
nice job
Thanks Bud!!☺
