Double Dragon - Good Bad Flicks
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- I just returned from PAXeast and had a major hankering to do an episode on a video game movie. After Super Mario Bros this was the next live action video game movie made and it gets just about as much hate. Yes it is silly but the action scenes are good and the overall flick is very enjoyable. If more people would give it a chance I think they would like it.

"You don't normally see bad guys wearing suits." *Congress sweats profusely*
Well that`s just bullshit anyway, bad guys wear suits in like, ALL the movies..
Well...to be fair, he said “gang members”. Not “bad guys”.
And he’s correct. Gangs members don’t usually wear suits. Unless we are speaking about mafia.
"Bimmy and Jimmy." Wonder who else got that reference.
Ockie Marais a few people. One guy thought I messed up and called me an idiot lol
I did!
Ockie Marais dat double dragon 3 tho.
I LOL'd when he said bimmy and jimmy
Ockie Marais AVGN
This was legitimately my favorite movie as a kid. I mean, I agree watching it now, it was bad. But I still like it. And it messed with me re-watching it as an adult, because I realized I got some personality traits from it.
Oh Shhhhh... you said it. At least even to this day I can still appreciate Alyssa Milano crawling.
@@GrumpyBearRawr The boys tilting their heads when she bends over is one of the traits I picked up. 😅
Surf Ninjas coming soon-ish. ^^
HEY!!!! It's been 4 years. Lets get some Surf Ninjas in this bitch!
Chiiiiil! There's only so much we can take! 😄
Hey!! It’s been 6 years!
Go for it!
One of the bad guys is Al Leong. Guy had a great career playing mostly henchmen in films like Lethal Weapon 1 & 4, They Live, Big Trouble In Little China, Escape From LA, Scorpion King, Replacement Killers and Die Hard.
My problem with Boll goes beyond the lack of quality of the films. He was taking advantage of a time when video game movies were just starting to be looked at more seriously out and was intentionally making them suck. I really have a lot to say about the subject, I may have to do a vlog or something some time.
I remember my friend's grandpa taking us to see this movie and we loved it. Looking back, I would now classify it as textbook guilty pleasure. It's not great but it is thoroughly entertaining.
I ask myself that sometimes lol
The show has been getting some attention lately so hopefully it will continue to grow. :)
It did! And then some
omg Cecil, you made an AVGN reference, i caught that lol
"Bimmy and Jimmy? Bimmy isnt even a real name! how in the hell did they fuck up the first screen of the game!?" - James Rolfe (Angry Video Game Nerd)
The Gaming Paladin I had to :)
GoodBadFlicks not like i'm complaining, i enjoy watching AVGN, what he rants about might be for comedy sake, but his points are spot on intelligent under that vulgar vocabulary.
The Gaming Paladin oh I know. I'm a fan of the guy (even saw him at PAX last month) so I wanted to throw a little nod in there
GoodBadFlicks awesome, hopefully next year he'll be there and i can meet him, maybe even get an autograph.
I started with Shadowrun on the SNES and then moved to the P&P. My friends all never wanted to play though so I just read the source books, then the novels. Great stuff, I love the world.
Strange Days is excellent. A very cool mindbender with some outstanding performances and clever writing. Sad it just kind of was pushed to the side and never really got the recognition it should have had.
i completely lost it at the "blleagghh brrlllaaaghh" part omg
I really enjoy this Good Bad Flicks reviews. Good job man.
DoctrineOfMayhem thanks!
Man this takes me back. This is the first movie I ever regretted watching.
It was better than Super Mario Bros. I.M.O., even if that obviously isn't really saying anything though! (L.O.L.!)
Mark is a beast in brotherhood of the wolf. It's a French movie, but it kicks ass
this movie is great, not only that but the scene where AM gets into the pipe is amazing
"You don't normally see gang members wearing suits."
I'm guessing they're "The Suits."
alyssa milanos hair looked like it was trying to escape
Thank you! I do plan on doing TMNT 2&3 at some point. I haven't seen Kazaam in ages, I can't remember if I liked it or not. I'll check it out and if I like it I'll add it to the list. :)
"maybe you should try rubbing it" haha
3:50, Bimmy and Jimmy! lol nice reference
And he trips at the finish line folks. He nearly went through the entire review without making a single iron chef reference. That's gonna cost him with the judges.
This is my older brother and I's favorite childhood movie. Still own it on vhs
I think the best possible description should be; "Bill & Ted meets Mortal Kombat"!
Anyone seen Mark Decascos in Drive? Holy shit.
+Lantern Jaw Drive is AMAZING. One of my favorite action movies
+GoodBadFlicks Yeah its like crank but better and made much earlier!
Lantern Jaw I forgot he was in that movie.
Yeah, it's pretty incredible. Really embraces the insane "anything goes" style of fight choreography.
Lantern Jaw I hate that he isn't a action star as clearly he's a talented great action star but I guess unlike Arnold and Sly Stallone he never got the big break.
IT'S THE
LEE BROTHERS
UG LEE
HOME LEE
Thanks! I think that is one of the big problems with many professional critics, they forget movies are made to entertain. This wasn't trying to be Saving Private Ryan (which is a great movie) this was a silly kung fu flick that obviously wasn't taking itself seriously.
I remember renting this on VHS in the mid 90s when I was like eight, I really love this movie, it was so corny and fun but the martial arts was decent and it was very watchable for a kid, now I own the MVD Blu-ray
I've never seen this movie, but I can't think of anything cooler than being in a graffiti ninja club where we paint ourselves into a corner and then wait for hours for somebody to come close to us so we can **gasp** turn around.
Robert Patrick reminds me of Ed Norton for some reason
True bro, that Asian stunt girl's hot.
Robert Patrick is awesome he was a villain in a movie based off a videogame and was the voice actor of a main character in a videogame it is always cool when they do videogame movies and also do videogames.
There's no dimension where this is a enjoyable movie.
There are so many movies that are much, much worse. I think the critics were even more critical because it was a video game adaptation.
Thanks!
3:50 LMAOOOOO BIMMY AND JIMMY!!! I SCREAMED WHEN YOU SAID IT!!!!
You just made my fuckin day!!!
Glad you still liked the review, even though you dislike the movie.
Its bad and yes I would have loved it to be more of an action/buddy film but there is a certain charm it has that I like. I think the first Mortal Kombat was the first video game movie to really get it right.
I never saw this before, but its overall quirky look reminds me of the Super Mario Bros movie from the same time period.
I agree this might not be a good movie but it's an enjoyable one! I'd love to have it on DVD someday! I love really good 90s cheesy movies! I use to watch the cartoon as a kid growing up! The one thing from the games I'd like to have seen in this movie if I'm thinking right is at the end one of the brother betrays the other... but that might've been the reasoning behind the possession fight scene!
"Hewey! Lewis! News?"
Seems like nobody got that one....
I did.
I had fun with this, and I have the same weakness of the villain, photo-sensibility. Or something like that. My eyes hurt with light.
I love this movie, I still own the dvd!
it's still an entertaining movie although you'll notice more of the cheese now than you would have at 10 ^^
Interesting how many of these I watched on TBS growing up. Starting to think turner couldn't afford better movies.
Looks like they wandered onto the set of The Warriors.
Totally agree. There was a certain charm to it. They didn't use CGI for everything, not like now. Oh, even though it was 1992 The Lawnmower Man totally has a cyberpunk vibe. What I wouldn't give for a Shadowrun movie...
Aylisa Milano didn't know she would eventually become much beloved Pheboe Halliwell.

I watched this on
TV
every weekend for a month
after it came out
Somebody needs to make one, and have a late 1980s vibe to it.
I can dream :'( cause I know it will never happen.
I like how you trash the Rotten Tomatoes score but completely ignore the equally awful audience score
5:43 You take that back right now mister!
I remember the trailer for this looking awesome, then again I was 4
Also, it was a different time back then. Game movies weren't (and still mostly aren't) taken seriously. As I do enjoy the film I do feel like they overthought it. A good rescue the girlfriend would have been fine.
Mark Dacascos is always a treat to watch even in a dumb fun movie like Double Dragon.
The more I watch I was this review. I always think that you need to the mark dacascos classics drive and crying freeman. I hope you do these this year. Anymore video game based films up for review.
totally missed that in the theater, love this flick!:)
Well, now you have something else to add to your watch list :)
I actually quite like Marion's hairstyle.
+JayDee284
nah, I just happen to like shorter hairstyles is all.
Your not alone
It looks fine. Some guys just don't like girls with short hair.
@@jaydencrowe8111 word
@@JayDee284 You know it!
You forgot to mention how the movie foreseen how tv will be in the future. The news segment was exactly like what we see today
Bimmie and Jimmie, i'm so happy you made that reference

nobody's getting their

This fit squarely into the so bad it's good category
If you want to see Mark Dacascos be a badass watch the live action movie Crying Freeman. Also I don't know if you knew this Trachenburg but Spike and Hammer were the original names not to mention that majority of this movie is based of the Neo Geo fighting game Double Dragon. Koga Shuko is the last boss in the game you have to fight.Look for it on You Tube and you can see where they got the ideas from and the blue and red outfits that Bimmy and Jimmy wear are the outfits from the fighting game.
Oh yeah! Drive is one of the best action movies ever. Dacascos really shows off his skills with the fights. A shame hardly anyone knows about it.
Such a shame about Murphy. She was just starting to get out there more in some good solid indie films (like the Ramen Girl). I was liking her more and more.
Me too. It might happen, Mark Dacoscos is rising in popularity thanks to Hawaii 5-0 and movies often get a reissue to capitalize on fame.
glad you liked it! Its a silly, fun movie
This is totally a "rose colored glasses" sort of thing. It's cheesy but fun.
I agree, Showdown in Little Tokyo is more Double Dragon than this was lol.
Never did watch this, but Mark Dacascos was great in Only the Strong...
Also, I hear Green Mind by Dink! One of the greatest, most underrated songs of the 90s...
...I really oughta watch this movie.
Loved this movie when i was a kid, and now that I'm old enough to see all the problems I can still watch this movie for Alyssa Milano and some of the fight scenes.I'm almost positive watching Jimmy kickass was the reason I always played with Jimmy in the game. Of course the guy who can't fight needs the medallion that has invincible, so that was one plot device that makes sense in the movie at least.
I remember watching this movie on Tv and loving it when I was a kid :)
Drive is definitely coming. Dacascos is the man! More video game movies coming soon-ish.
You are correct!
You must be thinking of Cradle 2 the Grave. He is awesome, he deserves to be more well known.
hahaha this was funny to watch XD thank you man...
I liked that movie because of one reason.I didn't know it was video game adaptation
As a kid, I loved this movie to death. As an adult I still like it quite a bit actually. I kind of treat movies the way I would a meal, this is like one of those weird things that is something a fast food place gave out as a limited time only that you thought was really awesome for me. Strange, unique, but surprisingly kind of good in it's own ways.
Also worth mentioning is that I liked the Double Dragon cartoon series which was worlds apart from this movie. Though I do have to point out as somebody already has I bet, that the mailman does NOT die from the fall. As an adult, I do have to think that if that guy can survive that fall then surely Satori should be allowed to survive that explosion...
I totally forgot this movie even existed.
Yes I did and yes it is awesome. I wish they were able to get that ported to XBL I would gladly pay to play on my big screen.
I was coming here to see if you had done this video before. It was the first thing that popped up as a recommendation . I hadn't even typed a search or anything. I am pretty freaked out, right now.
Double Dragon is an odd film. Played straight its basically like Escape from New York/L.A. Then because it was aimed at kids its got a lot of juvenile humor.
I totally forgot about this movie about Bimmy and Jimmy.
7:55 When I was 14 this was the my favorite part of the movie. :)
I am 14 and i still love this movie
Interesting!
First The Super Mario movie, then Spice World, and now Double Dragon? Your totally my favorite youtuber since you keep defending my favorite bad movies from my childhood, Question will you be able to do one on either Kazaam, or TMNT 3?
Will you be ever doing 'Good film' reviews? I know that's subjective, but you know what i mean lol.
You deserve far more subscribers!
Agreed, its a freaking travesty. Pewdiepie, anyone? (Shudder)
the gang fashions are the only thing from the game faithfully carried into the movie
Really? That's great! I'm semi-familiar with Cleveland but only in the past 5 years or so. I'm sure many of the locations they filmed are different now.
Why do you pronounce Mario's name as Merio?
Because I grew up next to a pizza place called "Mario's" and thats how he pronounced it so it stuck with me.
+GoodBadFlicks i love that you had an answer for that 😂
Also See Mario Lemieux, where it's established it's pronounced Merio.
I actually really loved this movie as a kid.
right there with you on that one
i lost my shit with the frozen peas lmao
Scott Wolf was miscast as Billy, but the movie is still entertaining, it's worth a few laughs.
What is terrible about the blue outfit?
Exact same outfit but a different color yet Jimmy says "At least I don't have to wear the blue one."
158K subscribers & you still have that weird opening. I love it.
The future setting would be more realistic if it wAs 2020 instead of 2007
Actually the mail man was alive. He is in the scene when they hide in the shed right after he falls off the tower.
Yes! I had to sneak that in there, I was hoping someone would notice :)
oh man the jiberish bit had me in stitches
I still don't understand why "Dead Or Alive" is so good.
Robert Patrick, Mark Dacascos, Scott Wolf, and Nils Allen Stewart should have sued the producers for causing damage to their careers.
I've seen this movie about a dozen times now and still can't find a thing I like about it. Although I really enjoy no-brainer-movies from time to time.
My husband likes it while I always roll my eyes when he puts this dvd in the player.
Then I always go and do something else. Nah, not my cup of tea.
Oh wow I didn't know Mark Dacascos got his start in this.
Which Robert Patrick in more over the top: Double Dragon or The Marine?
This is so weird and crazy.
