What Dip? Ok so many are sharing what they like to Dip their Dim Sum In? I can't do a Poll here but Tell me what's your Favourite Dim Sum Dip?
(A) Soy Sauce
(B) Mayonnaise (had to ask, Iv'e never seen that before 🤣)
(C) Plum Sauce
(D) Soy Ginger
(E) Other... Please say
(F) Chocolate.. Just to cover all bases on sanity..
Have an awesome week
Black vinegar and Julian ginger . Was exposed to this dip when i was in china. And love it.
@@slmickysl Thanks Mike..
@@Steve-Owens wc.. some of this place have it, just need to ask.
(e) there's this very old fashioned sweet and slightly sour sauce in dark red colour made from fermented tofu (lam yee) 南乳甜酱 that is not so common nowadays. Or no sauce at all.
Usually in Malaysia dim sum comes with a black sweet sauce and a garlic chili sauce.
The mayonnaise is to go with the deep fried prawn rolls. For general dim sum (steamed or deep fried), we go with chilli sauce & fermented soy bean (taucu) sweet sauce - at least that are what's normally served in KL/PJ (other states, I am not too sure).
Steve and Michelle you are true gourmets not afraid to try anything new. And you make me salivate each time I tune in to your channel. Thank you I learn a lot from you even though I originally came from the region. Thank you so much!
Thanks buddy.. Penang soon.. ;o)
Kuala lumpur old station used to be the busiest railway station in malaysia especially during festive holiday. Packed like hell.. 😅 but now all move to KL SENTRAL. And the old bulding remain as much look like a museum. And always become a movie scene to potray colonial time or classic footage.
Thanks for sharing those thoughts and memories.. 👍
Very nice and so cool recoding,,, 🆒🤙😎
Thanks ✌️

Thank you so much 😁
My home town...
Hi Hi Hi... Hello👋
Hi KH.. We love being here. Found some awesome food. Thank you for having us.
The mayo is for fried prawn fritters, chili is for the dim sum! I’m new subscriber! That’s really nice delicious Dimsum & white coffee! Missing good foods in Ipoh, I’ll Be Back!
Hope you are able to return one day.. ☺️
incidentally, English/Chinese mustard and chill sauce compliment dim-sum wonderfully.
😋
We local... When buying the ticket at the counter also need to give our identification card to the staff for registration. It's for insurance purposes
At a counter you have some security and a machine on the public highway, not so safe imo
Ipoh is great
Better every time.. ;o)
Steve, ol'buddy, when I think about coffee, I instantly think of The Nutcracker at Christmas time, which would be Der Knußknacker in German, or Kuru mi Wari Ningyo in Japanese.
Hey Byron Buddy.. Do you like your coffee ?? Take care mate
I love OLD TOWN WHITE COFFEE right here in Sri Lanka. Such an unique taste.
Is it in Sri Lanka ?? :o).
@@Steve-Owens Yes, Everytime I come to Malaysia, I bring back a load of it. Now it's available in SL. Some of my buddies are addicted to it, morning doesn't start without it. There was an article in how instant 3in1's are made, didn't look healthy, but OLD TOWN is in a class of its own.
Oh wow I’m surprised SL have our white coffee. To be honest, i prefer CHEK HUP brand. Less sweeter.
@@andrewchong2616 Will try that too, I also prefer less sweeter.
welcome to ipoh 🤗
Thanks 😁
Hi owen how are you. And welcome toy home town IPOH. Please find fauziah chicken rice jln Kuala kangsar.😁✌️
Thanks buddy.. 👍
Don't forget this coming 31st August 2022....Malaysia Independence Day celebration 🥳🎉 large event. Bring your friends along and join in the crowd at Merdeka Square.
Nice
Thanks
''Steve'' i think i know why the the ''train platform'' was a bit confusing at the beginning of your video.. before the super modern Mega KL sentral was build in the late 1990s or Early 2000s.. the KL ''main train terminus'' was that old beautiful Moorish building since 1911.. when it became too crowded in the 1970s they build a modern extension to the old Moorish building.. and ''yet again'' but when the new Mega modern KL sentral finally open for business in the late 1990s early 2000s.. the 1911 old Moorish train station and the 1970s extension more or less becomes defunct.. now served as a local station.. all the platform was just too long.. i think they had to cut the platform down to size.. i'm sure you notice the old Moorish building is really in a bad state of disrepair.. i kept hearing they have plans to completely renovate that old Moorish structure and turned it into another tourist and selfie friendly destination.. i think they also intent to renovate the old KTM HQ building a cross the road into a 5 star boutique hotel.. i just wish they hurry up before the structure completely collapse..
I feel you there. That place is a beautiful Heritage building, which deserves to keep it's roots in the Rail network, they seem content on letting it rot while they make their fortunes in mask sales and being escorted by cavalcades of cars from lunch date to cocktail lounge (call me cynical, please do)
The moment they can slap a starbucks sign on the side of that architectural beauty, then suddenly the money will flow.. Let's see..
That's why I retire in Ipoh... Great yummy food and CHEAPER than KL and/or Penang. Now, you know why I call Ipoh, Old Folks Home!!!
Loads of young people in Ipoh too though :o)
Down south is Kluang Rail Cafe. (at KLUANG KTM railway station.)
Thanks for the info..
fellow! woohoo-super~ you made outstanding ,goodbye!.
Thanks ;o)
9:35 That mayonnaise is actually the dip for the first dim sum item you had, the prawn roll. We don't dip other dim sum items into the mayo... the dim sum with the whitish skin you had is called har kau... the second is a siew mai.
Ahh.. I don't really like Mayo with that dim sum either LOL. Thank you for your advice though.. I would say I have never seen Mayo at a dim sum to my knowledge.. ;o) Maybe it's an Ipoh thing 🤔
Dimsum: mayo for fried stuff, chili sos for steam
Egg tart originate from hongkong which inspired by Portuguese egg tart
Steve, try Canning Dim Sum at Ipoh. It’s the best halal dim sum I ever ate in Malaysia. Also tau fu fah at that old street is famous too, melts in your mouth. Evening time you can eat famous Tuck Kee at that same old street. They charcoal fry their noodles! Original Tuck Kee is the famous one.. the one with the word “new” is not.
Yummy
😋
welcome to ipoh. try visit limau bali farm. fruit ( pamelo) big oren. at tambun. gaharu valley at gopeng.
I had hoped to but I don't think I can this time..
dim sum in malaysia all eat with chili sauce, soy sauce is for some xiaolongbao and any kind of prawn made dim sum most dip with mayonnaise sauce. this my eat style. 😂
0:30 This is the old colonial era railway station and maintained with only skeleton staff as it were. The "real" Kuala Lumpur railway station now - and has been so for years - is one stop away at Sentral, also the hub of public transportation in Kuala Lumpur.
As to details of passport number (identification card number for locals) and so on, these are for identification and insurance in case of accident or mishap, God forbid.
Thanks fro the info.. I understand that, I prefer to enter those details on a Private device rather than a standing Machine. As you know cash machines sometimes are a source of skimming info by crooks, there are many reasons not to put your ID and personal details into a box on the street. After you have an account made, then go for it..
@@Steve-Owens Yes I agree with you about those machines - you can't be too careful.
The mayo is for the deep fried stuffs, not the steamed dim sum
So I understand, Mayo should not be in Dim Sum.. IMO.. :o)
The mayonnaise comes with the fried prawns, which is a "modern" dim sum 😄
I still prefer Soy Sauce
@@Steve-Owens Agreed, soy sauce and maybe some wasabi for those dumplings mate.
You can try mamak restaurant's food. Ipoh has some good briyani and nasi kandar.
Also you can try malay food here too. Though it'll be fun if you try our northeast coast malay cuisine.
Thanks for the tips!
@@Steve-Owens northeast coast as in peninsular part of Malaysia btw. Terengganu and Kalantan. Forgot to add this important part in the previous comment 😅
Back in Ipoh again? Pay a visit to Kellie's castle while you are there.
Deserted KTM Ticketing station. Operated by GHOST.
That's a classic egg tart, a bit different from the portugese start.;-)
Your right and a little wrong, even in Portugal the "Pastel de nata" varies from baker to baker but I agree, to me the Pastel de nata is the less egg more sugar and burned top version but that's kind of an opinion..
@@Steve-Owens this classic egg tart is a Cantonese pastry found in dim sum shops and bakeries in Hong Kong. It might be inspired by Portuguese egg tart since Macau is nearby.
I tried pastel de nata in few places in Lisbon including that famous old shop and they are too sweet and have no umani aroma and taste you find in those from Macau and even some of our bakeries in Malaysia selling Macau style Portuguese egg tarts.
🙋
:)
Steve, the daan tat you had isn't the Portuguese variety, is it? The Portuguese variety has black caramelised parts on top.
Red bean. We rarely use black bean
Ah, thank you buddy
The huge station with nothing is the heritage "glory of the past."
Hi, u were having the traditional Chinese/ Cantonese/ Hong Kong egg tart (dan tart) not the caramelised Portuguese egg tart
Correct..
I see that the Cha Kway Teow has undergone shrinkflation. So little kway teow.
LOL.. You and I may be the only ones that thought that :o). ua-cam.com/video/alDJjZRKibM/v-deo.html
hello, i live in Kelantan, Malaysia.. so i want to recommend the wet kuey teow in kelantan especially the sauce and there is a very good pizza because the bread is very soft and when the pizza is cold the bread remains soft, so i can show you the place because i will back home on 31 August, would you ???🤓🤓🤓
Thanks for sharing!!. I don't think I can be there on that date but thanks again..
@@Steve-Owens ouh, it's okay when you come again to visit Malaysia, I'm here to help you and U can ask me soon !!!
@@IkazumaOfficial I am still here, but I have some friends to meet in Penang.. So maybe some other time, thank you.
@@Steve-Owens ouh wow, right now I'm in Penang, I'm practical here, batu uban
Ipoh weather raining in the evening for the last 4-5 days and doesnt look like the trend gonna change for atleast 2 weeks.
Yep, seems about right LOL..
@@Steve-Owens ahhahaha.
The mayo is for the fried dim sum items. Not the siew mai.
I've decided I don't want to see Mayo near any Dim Sum.. ;o)
Better to dip in vinegar for dim sum
In Taiwan, they dip dumpling into a soy sauce mixed with black color vinaigrette before eating to cut the porky greasy feeling in the mouth.
I like it in light Soy or a blend of Soy and Ginger.. Let's ask others what they think?
Cheers Mark.. 👍
@@Steve-Owens keep up the good reporting! Enjoy your content a lot!
Ipho.... 😅😅
How long was the train ride from KL to Ipoh?
That's not Portuguese egg tarts. That is classic Cantonese egg tart. Nam Heong has the best egg tarts in Malaysia.
Go troll someone that cares..
KTM counter staff received montly salary to Say No to customers just like Rolex Boutique.. No No No..
LOL... True
hi
Hi
Its so scary nobody 🤭
.
Dim sum
Sum Dim.. ;o)
Bro came Malaysia but didn't visit any Malls?
I hate Malls
Hahahhahaha hey Steve you eat the dim sum with chilli sauce not the mayonnaise. You dip the mayonnaise with the fried shrimp
In Ipoh they have the most famous signature coffee of all, you choose right 👍👍👍
Yeh but I'm going to say Mayonnaise doesn't go in any way with dim sum, it's a new unhealthy idea that I'm not a fan of.. what do you think 🤔
IPHO right prounounsations😂😂😂
Are you complimenting me la! LOL
@@Steve-Owens You got it right..I..PHO.In Malaysia.. I.. sound eeee then PHO..(remind me the vietnamese soup noodle) sound PO.So eee po.😊😊😊
Jack that is one of the funniest things I have read in a while. You possibly couldn't have used a worse example with the sound of Pho Noodles. I makes me cringe when people miss pronounce Vietnamese noodles Pho like Ipoh.
I leave it for you to work out but the Noodle sound is so far from Ipoh.
your caption photo spells ipho
Thanks buddy, I missed that... Fixed 👍
Why ?don't visit thailand
Good Idea..
@@Steve-Owens yes.
I don't think this is old town white coffee.
Think on.. :o)
