Now that I have completed the black & white challenge, I am eagerly awaiting a call from Sony to cast me as Spiderman Noir Edit: Everyone is asking so I will explain how I filmed this: I film videos by looking through the camera screen, and I applied a filter to the screen for this video. When I snapped the filter away, I would look around the camera to see the real cube. More details you didn't ask for: it's a phone camera and the filter is from Android developer options: simulate color space. I then used a screen recording app to capture the filtered version of the video because I couldn't find the same filter for desktop. It was a pain but it worked 😬
Lemme just say, as a colorblind person with deuteranomaly, with the filter, it looks different from without the filter. The way my colorblindness works is that some colors look different. This means that when the filter is on, not only do people with normal color vision see a change, but colorblind people such as myself also see a change
God, I think what makes the Chromonomaly one so convincing is, there looks like there’s a SLIGHT change in the color of the table with each snap, like a Colorblind filter that isn’t 100% perfect, and maybe its just a placebo illusion or something, but even knowing ahead of time that Chromonomaly was fake, it still got me for a second
It's not placebo, he is changing colors slightly but not much. Hence the "go your whole life without knowing" and whatnot remarks he makes. I am actually colorblind but because of the type of colorblind I am, none of the colorblind filters actually work properly for me lol. I'm a weird mix.
Challenge idea: Get a cube with the same colors. But have them in a different position. So have like yellow next to white and red next to orange. See how much it throws you off
Just today at school my friend brang in a rubik's cube and told be to solve it. It had red swapped with green and the orange and red were basically identical
The Triple Moves was the the most hilarious struggle of going against your good habits. The Regripless Challenge seems the most practical. It almost looked like JPerm was doing a SlowMo Version of a Max Park solve.
I have a friend with chromanomaly. They can usually tell most colours apart, but apparently violet and purple look exactly the same to them. I mean, they’re not even close! Same with beige and light brown.
thank you for showcasing tritanomaly and the absolute struggle of seeing yellow as white. i once had my teacher get so mad because i had to find a yellow text box on some page of a text book and it was just white. and then darker yellows can look the same as orange or green so the rubiks cube is kind of a nightmare.
Oof. That sucks. Unfortunately, outside of the relatively common red-green colorblindness people don't have much understanding. I had no idea I was colorblind until I was at university and someone randomly had a set of Ishihara plates for a class out and people told me I was wrong about what numbers were on them. Up until then I thought it was just me being dumb about colours. And a big part of that was because hereditary red-green colorblindness runs in my family and my brother has it but I could differentiate colours he couldn't so I clearly didn't have it.
PSA to any of you who haven't tested yourself for colorblindness: just because you saw a difference in the filters Dylan used doesn't mean you aren't colorblind. Everyone sees a difference with the filter - for example, the deuteranomaly filter makes things look darker than what many people with deuteranomaly actually see and the protanomaly filter made the red more black than people with protanomaly actually see. So even if you saw a difference between the filter and the normal color scheme, it's still worth checking if the filters looked *close* to what you normally see.
I agree I have perfect color vision and seen all of the different types of color blindness please if you suspect you’re color blind get tested they can’t fix it but it’s worse not knowing
I am colourblind and I can tell which are which very easily, I just needed to memorise where all the colours were. My fastest solve was 18secs so far. My kind of colourblindness is Deuteranomaly. Thanks for teaching me to solve and do CFOP
Woah, big props to you for competing with people who have irl X-ray hacks. I'm just curious, do you see a big difference between the normal footage and the footage with Deuteranomally?
Here's something I've tried recently (and failed at miserably): - Start with a solved cube - Place your thumbs and middle fingers on the four pieces on the second layer - From now on, your fingers will always remain on those pieces (and colors) - No regripping and no other fingers allowed. - Scramble ther cube this way and then solve it this way (if you scramble it normally, it might become unsolvable) This is a little hard to explain, but once you hold the cube in your hand it should be intuitive to understand whyt I mean. For clarification: From the starting position, you can only do R and r. However, after a single r or R, you could do S D2 S'. If anyone understands and can explain this better, please do so :D
@@insidious6068 basically when starting out in home grip, the pieces that your thumb and middle fingers are on will stay on those fingers. Those fingers cannot touch any other piece and must stay on the pieces as I said above. Thats the rules for scrambling the cube and solving the cube
@Alone Zo I understand what home grip is. What I don't understand is how you're scrambling the cube if your fingers have to touch 4 pieces. Say you try to make a R move. That involves moving both the R and M layers. But how can you move the M layer when the left thumb/finger are holding it in place?
The Chromanomaly bit was amazing. I was able to realize it was just a prank pretty quickly, but I cant wait for more comments to flood in about how people fell for it.
I've leared so much from you, I was really bad at solving cubes, but all because of you I have come this far into cubing, You vids are soo entertaining and make us learn something new which we didn't know. Thank you J Perm!
Hi jperm, I’m a cuber with tritanopia (which was that blue-yellow color blindness. I wanted to point out that WCA did not overlook up special fibers and there are regulations that allow for us to have accommodations, I myself dyed my RS3 M yellow pieces to black so that I can distinguish it. I think we can just eliminate this hassle I have to face every time I get a cube, if we popularize having an optional black face rather than yellow, similar to the V-Cube
Technically, with stickerless cubes, the pieces are just caps. I'd like to believe (though I don't think it's currently a thing) you could ask the manufacturer directly about that. Either you can change the caps/pieces yourself or custom order a cube. Again, doubtful, but I hope cubing companies (like Moyu or Gan, not SCS or Cubicle) are willing to accommodate.
I wonder if being partially colorblind made it easier for me to tell the colors apart in the colorblind #1 version... I can tell the normal red and green apart a bit, but not easily, however when the filter was applied it actually got easier for me to tell them apart. I think it was tweaking the colors in another way besides what I would struggle with, or having to live with telling the colors apart in real life made it easier to distinguish here.
Hey Dylan, just wanted to say thank you for everything you've taught me and also for getting me back into cubing after a long break. I used to average barely sub-1 and now I average sub-30 and am still improving. Thank you man! P.S: Great video as always Edit: I have no idea whether or not the replies I'm getting are serious or ironic (probably both), but when I say sub-1 I mean sub-1 *minute*, not second. Although I wish the second one was true.

Your the Legend of Cubing. You taught me so much about CFOP, 4x4, 5x5 and big cubes. I'm really grateful you have these kind of videos and you are seriously the best
Hey, Dylan! I’ve been cubing for awhile (since 2020 to be exact) And your pretty much the only cuber I watch aside from tingman. You’re the reason most of my solves are now sub 25! And when I started, I was barely sub1, ( 1:10 most of the time) I might even start vlogging because of you!
Tritanopia looks the coolest in my opinion. I much prefer being able to tell colors apart than to have a color scheme that looks cool. But if I had to be color blind and I could choose, yeah I would choose tritanopia.
My hands hurt when I see wrist turning solves on an old cube. The pain of it when I first learned to solver the cubes is the reason I got into speed cubing.
14:57 I've been using wide U-perm algs for a long time since I stumbled upon it. Only in certain orientations since there's a small regrip, but wayyy less moves: Ua: M2 u' M u2 M u' M2 Ub: M2 u M' u2 M' u M2 Any other position and orientation are derivatives of this sets. Haven't seen this around as much so idk if I just discovered it on my own. Hope it'll help in your solves one way or another haha
I realized two pieces were swapped at 8:00 and I was just waiting for him to notice but when he set the cube down without realizing I knew he was screwed when he "turned the color back on." also nice try on that chromanomaly bit but I knew I wasn't color blind and barely anything changed (although there was a very subtle change in the shading of everything (got darker), not sure what that was from) technically though, this is possible, and maybe we all "have it" (see certain colors differently from each other) and nobody knows it (like what if my definition of "green" in your eyes was actually "blue")
Being a colourblind cuber myself, I didn't even realise the 4th colour filter was on (because of the normal red-green colour blindness I experience). The colour of the cube in colourblind challenge 1 was probably easier & more identifiable for me, but it looks VERY different from my own cube.
I first solved a cube in 2017 with beginners method, got good at it (I average about 1:20) and then left it for a couple of years, but I came back to it last year and learnt CFOP (got sub-30 after 4 months) and found so many great cubing channels. And trying to learn new things. . And yesterday I did my proper blindfold solve following your tutorials and it's just mind-blowing!!
During the Color Blind 1 solve, I could see the difference between two stickers (red and green) when they were on the same side and from that could tell the two you were confused on were different from each other. But doing that trying to go fast, it might take a bit for me to adjust to get proficient at seeing them that well.
I was weirded out by the chromanomaly one at first, but then I realized that if the colors really did change on screen, then I would see that no matter the colorblindness. still nice one :D
Y’all was I the only one who freaked out about the chromanomaly thing? I swear I looked stuff up and did tests for like 30 minutes thinking I was colorblind 😂😂😂 good prank
I was so confused because if I was actually colorblind then how would the RGB screen display it? I concluded that either Dylan didn't realize that it couldn't be displayed on an RGB screen, or that I understood RGB screens completely wrong. And I was starting to lean towards the second choice... BECAUSE I BELIEVED HIM.
Omg I started to lose it when you "applied" the 4th filter. Had to come to the comments to find out you was pullin one over on us. Had me spooked for a minute.
The worst part of colorblindness is when you have a mild colorblindness. You solve a piece, then look at it again realizing it's a piece of the wrong color :') Happens all the time to me with red and green.. Very seldomly with white and yellow
@@marovic78 and what if its old? its still just as good as it was when it was first released. once you get a maglev cube you cant upgrade to anything else that isnt maglev cuz it will feel like a downgrade. the 11m pro is straight up too expensive for my skill and as i said once you get used maglev you cant live without it
13:07 technically he could solve it regularly because an R would basically be a wide L so he could've solved it reglarly. edit: that regripless solve was amazing tho
9:12 I don't think the filter worked because you called green light blue lmao Edit: well... that would mean I have it lmao but it said its not real so yay
Red has the longest wavelength out of all the colors, hence why it shows up as darker in black and white. The blue comes off as relatively dark, because the blue is relatively dark, and thus absorbes overall more color.
I had an eye injury years ago and had to get surgery so during recovery I see yellow as white for a couple of years. So I supposed it was considered a color blind eventhough I saw other color as normal. But lucky for me it happened only on one eye so I have the other eye to verify that it's yellow and not white everytime I had the confusion. Luckily now my vision is back to normal I really appreciate this video. Because there's historical element in it and features the color blind issues that some people were facing. I find this to be very informative and insightful.
I paused and called my wife in to make sure I wasn't color blind. She watched the section and laughed at me for not waiting for the end. Well played sir. You got me, and my wife got to enjoy it too.
Love your videos and tutorials. As a colourblind, your colour blind solve #1 looked pretty normal to me 😀 3x3 are OK when I get used to the cube, however megamix is loads fun and a lot of "nope that does not look right", "are these the same colour" and usally followed by a question to my girlfriend "Honney are these the same colour?" 🤣
thanks for scaring me into thinking i had whatever that last colourblindess was i know theirs many and it kinda scawed me thinking they didnt change jus desaturated a lil
For tritanomaly, the colors you referred to as green looked slightly more blue-ish to mean. Like an aqua and dark aqua variant instead of a more green shade. Which is especially weird, since the map example definitely looked more green, while it was only the cube itself that looked more blue.
Funny story: I picked up cubing for a while at age 12, and set my PB of 49 seconds on a Rubik's brand cube... that was chock-full of Vaseline... using the beginner's method. I still haven't beaten it with my Duncan Quick Cube, but I'm getting a real speedcube and learning F2L this week, so hopefully that helps!
Guys I know he made it up but I think I do actually have Chromanomaly because the colors actually changed for me when he snapped so either I’m colorblind or I can perceive colors beyond the mortal coil and I have no idea which option is worse

… are you me from another universe?
During the Color Blind 1 solve, I could see the difference between two stickers (red and green) when they were on the same side and from that could tell the two you were confused on were different from each other. But doing that trying to go fast, it might take a bit for me to adjust to get proficient at seeing them that well.
ITS A STICKERLESS CUBE
Youu !!!!! Chonomoly thingy seriously got me .... I was so scared damnit !!!!
Either way , still love you and your videos
I was weirded out by the chromanomaly one at first, but then I realized that if the colors really did change on screen, then I would see that no matter the colorblindness. still nice one :D
unless you have chromanomaly.
@@AbdulWahabXVI hahaha yea was gonna say...
It got me for a second too, but nope it's a troll.
same bro
Me too
I was like: "uhhhh, this just a normal solve for the length of the video?" Without even realizing it was a colorblindness prank lol
I really like the use of virtues last reward music. Zero escape is my favorite franchise
9:47 BRO I WAS SO CONCERNED!!!!!!!!! T_T
8:38 YOU DONT KNOW HOW LONG IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THAT!!!!! i almost tried to learn 3 style to be able to solve that XD
3:36 No, it just becomes even worse because it is 2 colorblindnesses on top of each other lmao
Realizing his wrist turn solve was as good as my normal times💀😂
4:26 yess 31 seconds and +2
Edit: Big fan btw
hey jperm just wanted to let you know that thanks to you i got into cubing and i cant wait to get a gan xs
Bruh dont get the gan xs, its old, get thr Wrm 21 Maglev or the 11 M Pro if you have cash
@@marovic78 and what if its old? its still just as good as it was when it was first released. once you get a maglev cube you cant upgrade to anything else that isnt maglev cuz it will feel like a downgrade. the 11m pro is straight up too expensive for my skill and as i said once you get used maglev you cant live without it
Caught you!!!! At 8:43 you forgot to remove your J Perm logo from the cube. Haha!
Worst part about the Chromanomaly bit: The background faded ever so slightly.
For real thogh!! That's what got me...
On colorblind 4 i see no difference at all except for the shades of the backround table and now im hella worried
13:07 technically he could solve it regularly because an R would basically be a wide L so he could've solved it reglarly.
edit: that regripless solve was amazing tho
You got me with that chromonology 😅
I had a heartache on 6:03 easiest h perm I've ever seen
Hurts me on rewatch as well 💔
@@JPermlol
9:12 I don't think the filter worked because you called green light blue lmao
Edit: well... that would mean I have it lmao but it said its not real so yay
ur not the only one but it doesn't make any difference
i have experience solving rubiks cubes at night in my room lmao
Red has the longest wavelength out of all the colors, hence why it shows up as darker in black and white.
The blue comes off as relatively dark, because the blue is relatively dark, and thus absorbes overall more color.
Jperm: gets 30 seconds with wrist turns.
Me: Turns fast as I can and gets 30 seconds
Yeah that’s me too
YOU ACTUALLY HAD ME WORRRIED ABOUT ME HAVING CHROMANOMALY WHAT THE F--- JPERM
In the triple moves challenge for R3 you should technically do R'9
why be that person.
Finally the triple moves challenge. I’ve been waiting for this.
6:34 is what the first 10 seconds of every anime ever where the main character walks hom from school looks like
5:12 Okay so I am color blind this is literally the same before the snap.
You are solving rubick's cube faster than me without finger tricks😂
Fun fact: Red appears so dark in grayscale that in black and white media, they use green lipstick in place of red lipstick
8:48 oh no… nothing changed!! 🥶🥶😢 Edit: I hate you jperm
3:01 you do wrist turn faster than my PB with finger trick
2:10 It really looks like J perm is new to cubing and I am going to teach him how to solve a cube
The colour blind #3 is like a christmas version or a rubiks cube
As a non cuber who started cubing i solved the 3x3 so easily it just took me… 3 weeks yea totally easy…
Love your videos and tutorials. As a colourblind, your colour blind solve #1 looked pretty normal to me 😀 3x3 are OK when I get used to the cube, however megamix is loads fun and a lot of "nope that does not look right", "are these the same colour" and usally followed by a question to my girlfriend "Honney are these the same colour?" 🤣
thanks for scaring me into thinking i had whatever that last colourblindess was
i know theirs many and it kinda scawed me thinking they didnt change jus desaturated a lil
8:55 😐😑😐 what, I didn’t see a change
Oh wait it doesn’t exist
For me, its brighter
Me:"He can solve a cube even a colorbindness."
Also me:" Did I did a time travel??"
as a color blind cuber I apreciate you making this
frick u perm I thought I had a color blindness lol
Don’t understand how there are still faster ways to solve a cube then the world record solve
For tritanomaly, the colors you referred to as green looked slightly more blue-ish to mean. Like an aqua and dark aqua variant instead of a more green shade.
Which is especially weird, since the map example definitely looked more green, while it was only the cube itself that looked more blue.
3:41 brooo how do you scramble the cube that smooth when I try to do that I just lock up and it looks terrible
You need a better cube
Dude in 9:15 you said this "this light blue looking color" dude its green
Edit: In 9:10 and not 9:15
Your joking right? 🤦
Bros never heard of a joke
@@njord7153if you wouldn’t of said that I wouldn’t of known it was a joke.
4:50 I can't tell them apart even next to each other 💀
Guys I know he made it up but I think I do actually have Chromanomaly because the colors actually changed for me when he snapped so either I’m colorblind or I can perceive colors beyond the mortal coil and I have no idea which option is worse
The brightness of the image got decreased by 2% and the saturation increased by 3%. The colors didn't change.
They changed for me too but only very slightly, barely noticeable. I think it was part of the bit to sell the troll.
omg! the chomonomaly color blindness broke my heart for a sec
0:14 this is what i see in a dark room
Challenge: solve a 2x2 using f2l
on colorblind number 4, the first time I saw this video, I ran to my mom, so confused
9:25 doesn't look different
You probably have chromanomaly
You have the #4 colorblindness
