Thank you Feliks for twisting a corner on a WR solve so that we could demand better cubes. And congrats J Perm for being better than Feliks confirmed.
Its confirmed
@@JPerm yep
Yea
LOL
i twisted a corner on the rubiks brand XD (if you offset your cube 45 degrees then you can twist a corner)
In my Maths class, we are doing probability and the rubiks cube came up because of the absurd amount of combinations there are to scramble it (43 quintillion), so my teacher said hell show us a video explaining it. Our next lesson, I walk in to see J Perm on our projector with my whole class watching on as you explained why there are so many combinations. So thank you for educating us all!
Would you mind telling me how you did that calculation? I tried it myself and got a figure much higher. However, I think it might be because I treated every square the same, disregarding that some cannot move because they are center pieces and also disregarding that certain colors can never be paired together.
@@PandaFan2443 I would try my best to explain it but I think it would be better if you watch J Perm's video about it because he explained it really well and cut it up into easy to understand steps.
Thanks for asking tho

👍
A possible reason the corner on Feliks’ solve might have twisted, it his thumb. His thumb seems to be quite highly located on the F-face. So when he did his final U’, his thumb might have been blocking him to make the full turn. Yet, he forced the turn anyways, and twisted the corner.
That makes sense
I guess it doesn't look that way to me, but maybe he has big thumbs. Edit: tried it on my aolong, and i hurt my thumb a lot and it still won't twist. Maybe his cube was a lot looser
@@JPerm does the aolong have adjustable tightness from centerpieces?
@@Geebinator probably tbh
@@JPerm I notice you switch from analyzing the twisted corner W G R to the opposite corner that was near his index W B R. I agree with @Koendos3 it looks like his left index might have pushed the W G R corner over the tip of his left thumb. The center slice also looks like it's rotated a few degrees in M' direction which when I try and turn the top layer on my cube it just locks up if the W G R corner has to climb over 1/3 of the G center. Maybe the two forces combined did the trick? I don't have this OG cube so there's really no chance I could replicate it but the physics of twisting a corner that way also seems super unlucky.
Jperm is just that kind of youtuber who is super chill and who is like a really good teaching history teacher and math teacher
true, and always waiting when he uploads a video
I dont like history as a school subject but i like cubing history and jperm is good at that
There are 2 eras of Cubing history, known as BCE (before cubes existed) and CE (cubes exist).
@@JPerm lol good one
@@JPerm Wow thank you mr j
The way Valk reacts at 8:52 is so good, his initial reaction is dismay that he lost the record but he _immediately_ hides it and claps for Feliks
It's such a good, professional reaction. There's nothing wrong with feeling dismay that you lost, it's a natural human reaction. But what you do afterwards is what matters, and he chose good sportsmanship.
@@haikumists1115👍👍
Ive seen that video so many and never picked up on that. I was always distracted with how "happy" Feliks got 😂😂
Feliks's hardon when breaking the record in front of Mats has become legendary.
A solve so good that it gave him a 🦴er
Daddy
Too legendary
@@Cubyingcomofficial🤨
guys it was just a legendary hard pyraminx 🤣🤣🤣🤣🙃🙃😉
I love how he's explaining the most basic stuff that you can understand by common sense, but still make it calming and entertaining enough that we never get bored on it for 10 minutes, also because there isn't a 1000 cubes he talking about and he isn't making his voice sound over excited forcefully, this video feels better than a few videos he has posted recently.
It's pretty crazy how far the technology has come. I was still using my guhong V2 until like 2021 when I finally bought a rs3 m. The guhong still has cubesmith stickers on it. I miss cubesmith.
My Guhong v2 still has a Lubix sticker on it. Also I had v-cubes of sizes 5x5 and 7x7 which had the textured titles from cubesmith (which I no longer have).
nice to see u again. i remember when i was really into speedcubing i used to watch you, probably like 2016-2017 or somewhere around there. i remember the record was like 7-8 seconds or something, not sure if that was single or average, and that could have been a bit before because i was into speedcubing for a few years. but yeah its crazy seeing the records decrease so much.
anyways just a nice wave of nostalgia, i believe you were the main channel that helped me learn how to solve, but youtube removed the ability to sort by oldest so its hard to check, not to mention i dont really remember as much.
The fact that I remember this happening made me realize I've been cubing for over a decade now. That's insane. And I still suck.
Thanks for these history videos. I found the channel from your unboxings and I love your challenge videos too, but I'm very new to the community and having stuff like this to learn about what's happened in cubing is really interesting and helpful.
I think the reason Feliks got the corner twist is because the corner hit his left hand thumb which could have provided a clockwise torque on the bottom part of the corner where the white and green parts connect
That's possible! it didn't look like that to me, but it could be. Also i just tried it, and my hands really hurt, yet no corner twist. maybe his cube was looser.
@@JPerm Yeah i tried it with one of my really loose cubes and I couldn't get the corner to twist, but honestly I don't see any other way it would have happened lol
Fascinating design evolution. The cube companies have really optimised cube engineering; there is a lot of thought and effort behind these. Great video.
I just came here to praise that. Great example of problem solving
Hey J perm i just wanted to say thank you for making these amazing videos!
I started speedcubing around 2-3 months ago and my new pb is 24.19!
Im so happy lol
I couldnt have done this without you
Keep up the good work!!
Keep improving
Thank you. I love learning new things. I didn’t realize that is why corner pieces had that particular design.
Speedcubing pre 2016 or so was such a wild time compared to what it is today. The standard measure of a “good cube” was corner twists per 100 solves, the expectation was you would get corner twists often and you just had to cry about it. Stickerless cubes weren’t competition legal. Using Vaseline sandpaper and WD40 on cubes was standard procedure (the plastic deteriorating was solved by simply buying another cube) literally everyone used the same cube (guhong, zanchi, aolong, etc) also vcube was like one of the genuinely better options for a speed cube, bonus points for being available in Barnes and noble’s.
If you play mk8, you should do a colab with this small youtube named shortcat
Yeah, that will be intense
🤣🤣🤣
Finally, A Video
u first, congrats
@@SeegalMasterPlayz yeah
Thanks
Yeah he started uploading on another channel
Very awesome explanation of such a minute detail in speedcube design, love the history lesson too
glad I was able to provide some help in gearing up and organizing some thoughts to come up with this video
Awesome video, Great job!
haha I took a page out of your playbook and liked my own comment 👌
Feliks zemdegs truly is the most impactful cuber of all time 👏 we love you legend! 🎉
i see you everywhere
I remember that solve, so close to a new WR. I had one of those cubes too and it would quite often corner twist. Before that we had cubes that would "pop" meaning an edge piece would pop out of the cube and have to be replaced before a solve could be completed.
Jperm Is probably the best cube explainer in the world, He is very super calm and always stay to the point of the video, This video is splendid!!!
Great to see you making content again!
Where's your video on the 3.13
I'd always wondered why the edges were pointy, cool bit of cubing history and innovation! I like to see how cubing was Back Then too because I didn't start until like 3 years ago
Amazing Video JPerm! So Glad To See Another Vidéo From You! Love Your Content!
It's nice to hear from you again Jperm
Mats valk reaction to losing his record is the funniest thing in cubing history 😂
“Oh for f*** sake”
-Mats Valk
You shall never know the edit was
i cant believe famous mario kart youtuber shortcat was a cuber all along!!
Great video! I'm surprised you didn't mention the old Florian mods on ShengShou 5x5s, which had an influence on the 'new' speedcubes of that era due to Feliks (and others) using them to break records, but even so, fun (and painful) to relive old memories!
Best cubing video uploaded in a long time
Great job Dylan!!🎉
j perm is the type of guy to upload a vid about world record 9 days before the world record was beaten
Honestly you are such a good story teller and you always entertain us ❤good job
What? I've been a cuber for 3 years now and I've never realized that the design of the corners is actually so complex and smart🙉
Are you Shortcat?
I just wanted to say thanks to J perm. One year ago, I learnt how to solve a cube. Then I started learning how to get faster. One year later I average 10 seconds, have been to three competitions and tried a load of cool puzzles, and it’s all thanks to this guy. Congrats on 1.5 million subscribers 🎉, and hopefully your channel continues to grow bigger.
how do people get so fast in so less time? I have been cubing for over 6 years and I am only sub 35. I used to think atleast I am good at something than others. But then u get to know that world record is held by an autistic kid whose main is problem is that his motor controls are very poor (imagine having a world record where u lack). Or that a 9 year kid broke the world record with 4.69 seconds. I dont even know what was Idoing when I was 9.
@@saurabhjarodia335 lol thanks but it’s mainly because I’m young and have a lot of free time.. as soon as I get a job I’ll stop improving 😂
@@svoda what made you think I have a job and I dont really time for stuff.
@@saurabhjarodia335 I didn’t say you had a job, I said ‘as soon as I get a job, I’ll stop improving’. Wasn’t trying to offend anyone and I’m sorry if I did.
@@svoda U didnt offend anyone. I brought the job thing to say that I had enough time too and dont forget my 6 years against ur 1 year. yes i had breaks in between but still... I am terrible
Love your vids!❤ keep up the good work
guys j perm has another channel called shortcat
Has anyone found Jperms New channel called ShortCat?? 😂
I don't think that's his edit... actually it might be his

@@PenaltyCuber but we are not sure tho
I actually do remember that corner twist happening to Felix. It was about when I started speed cubing. It's crazy how much cube design has changed since.
Thank you for making videos every time I watch your I'm always learn new cubing knowledge and always make my day
Very recently got back into cubing after 9 years. It blows my mind how much cube designs have changed over that time - if you had asked me back then, I would have said there was certainly some room for improvement, but assumed that we were pretty near a plateau of diminishing returns. I dug out my old collection for my students to use - they were outrighted shocked to hear that my ZhanChi was considered one of the best cubes back then. Honestly compared to even some super budget stuff nowdays, its practically unusable.
I remember when this happened. Havent cubed for like 5-6 years and this video randomly popped up, reminding me how much i used to love this hobby
Also its astonishing to see how much this channel has grown i remember when you had like 15k
Thanks Feliks as this helped us with a corner twist so we could get ridges and better designs
Hope we get an solution for +2 on future
Congrats on 1.5 million btw
I think +2 is a skill issue. But maybe i'm just not forward thinking enough
@@JPerm LOLLOLODWAOKDW
It is really interesting to understand this! Thank you. :)
Are you shortcat. You sound like him and your thumbnails are similar
JPerm! Great content as ever! 🙂
2:02 what were you like, 11 years ago?
Me: I would be dead
His thumb was a little bit high though, so maybe the corner piece collided with that.
Just checked my latest favorite cube, the WRM v9 BC, which I have setup to my preferences. It's tight and stable and still super fast. I'd have to loosen it considerably for it to be capable of a intentional corner twist, let alone an accidental one.
Oh, and not to shill for anyone (o.k. guess I am), there is a discount code if you haven't got one of these yet.
J perm, thank you for teaching me stuff. I used to average about 40 seconds when I was 10. I’ve watched your videos for two years and I am now averaging around 11-12. (With lookahead)
Now thats quite the improvement
That's is really interesting. Well explained 👏
bro is shortcat 😭😭
Imagine how much cubing history and cube design changes if Felik’s cube was just 1 millimeter more aligned
0:44 gave me the chills
Really interesting story. Thank you for explaining it so clearly. Fred : )
Hi short cat!
J perm sounds exactly like shortcat
This is the guy who taught me how to solve a Rubik's cube thanks alot ❤ and best wishes for you
nice video keep it up man!
what about feliks pyraminx?
I don’t know you played Mario kart 8
Actually, you can see his thumb rubbing on the corner while he did a turn. His thumb was in the middle of the corner piece (don't know how to explain using words) and so the thumb rubbed against the piece but the turn still was forced through which led to it twisting. And the corner even turns the way that makes sense to the idea listed above
Congratulations on 1.5 million 🎉🎉❤
Do play mariokart? You sound a lot like the youtuber "Shortcat".
Are you shortcat

History videos are great, please do more if possible
Really disappointing when they discontinued the AoLong v1, I still used it for years after this DNF
I did too, but if I went to competitions I probably would have stopped tolerating the corner twists haha
wait.. you sound like shortcat..
Thanks for the info
Thx for uploading more often
Do you perhaps have a second channel about MK8?
JUST TELL US, EVERYBODY WANTS TO KNOW: ARE YOU SHORTCAT
Still, i want to hear it it from him

I swear you are the same.
How come 2 BLD isn’t a event but 5 BLD is?
I was wondering for along while why modern cubes had squared corners. Thank you for answering this, fantastic video!

J perm I love your video. It is very easy to solve rubiks cube now and you have also teaches how to do it faster you are my first inspiration. After buying the rubiks cube i though I can not solve this rubiks cube but then my father search in the youtube and then learn how to do it . After that I found you you are the best cuber j perm......🎉
We all must know by now J perm's mariokart channel "ShortCat". J perm, we're on to you.
At 2:51 if you notice, felix's left hands thump was actually in contact with the corner. The friction made the corner twist when he was turning the layer.
I was thinking the same thing, tip of his thumb was up there and could have snagged the corner enough.
Are you shortcat????
