Solid overview, really helpful - thank you! I would suggest reducing the volume of the background music though, it feels a bit too loud at times to me.
Regarding partially defended status: Why not make it even simpler and negate charge bonus if the attacking unit charges through any kind of terrain (except open)? You could even do that for the stand by stand, but only for the attacker.
The Age of Empires 1 music makes my heart ache with nostalgia.
