I love how you mention "Oh the next ones could be thrash metal or prog rock or fusion jazz" as a shot in the dark, because they literally have an album for all three of those genres

Super glad you liked it. I would recommend Flying Microtonal Banana or Polygondwanaland next, but you could literally do any album and it would be fun nonetheless. Paper Mache Dream Balloon is fantastic as well

True. Paper Mache Dream Balloon would be the perfect change of pace after the tour de force of 'Nonagon Infinity'!

Paper Mache Dream Balloon is the album that sold me on King Gizzard, Nanagon Infinity was my first album but Paper Mache showed me just how versatile and great they really are as musicians.

Top album art from a top album!! What're your thoughts on Night Gnomes? Three of the tracks (bubblegum infinity, dread&butter, & lava lamp pisco) are already among my faves. Best album since high visceral pt1&2. imo

@@scotthayes8450 completely agree with you, it's my favorite since high visceral. Dread and butter is my favorite, I missed those strings so much.

Definitely check out their live KEXP performances. Their front man, Stu Mackenzie, mixed all of those shows so their sonic aesthetic is just as good as their albums. Additionally, you’ll get a sense of the band’s live dynamic

It's hard to find a bad KGLW album. Nonagon is pretty damn high up there. It's undeniable. Murder of the Universe is an absolute fantastical psych doom rock journey. Flying Microtonal Banana is great. Im In Your Mind Fuzz was my first love of king gizzard

This album is in my top 3 albums of all time. It works so well as a unit and really has no weak track on it. I could listen to it flow into itself over and over, on some car rides I managed 3 times in a row, haha. It's called Nonagon Infinity because the nine songs flow into each other seamlessly and by listening to it on repeat you supposedly open a gate to hell and things like giant wasps and crocodiles come out. After a while you also notice that each track has features from the one before and the one after it. It really is incredibly well thought out and rocks so hard at the same time. Glad you liked it! Should you wish to venture deeper into the Gizzverse, Polygondwanaland is probably the next thing you could listen to, if you enjoyed their cleaner, polyrhythmic side in Crumbing Castle. Sorry for the wall of text, Jim, I just get a bit excited when King Gizz is involved.
PS: the drums on many of their albums sound so interesting because there are actually 2 drummers playing the same parts.

I throw this on almost every time I go for a run haha. You'd really enjoy I'm in Your Mind Fuzz by them, one of their earlier albums and super psychedelic, the first half of the album flowing together as almost one song as well. That would also be the first of their "Gizzverse" albums which are interconnected. Nonagon Infinity is also part of that.

You should listen to their newest single off their upcoming album, it's called The Dripping Tap and it's 18 minutes long.

Absolutely love the dripping tap! Really excited to hear the rest of Omnium, should be really interesting revisiting the concept of gumboot and oddaments considering all they've tried since then

I know everyone says every album is different, and they are different, but most of their music could be categorized as psychedelic. But yea, there’s a synth pop album, there’s a thrash metal album, there’s a garage punk on, an Arabic rock, jazz, most recently they released two rap songs on their latest LP. Crazy stuff

  • @TMaagaard

There's a bit of fan service on there as well if you're familiar with I'm In Your Mind Fuzz. When I heard Nonagon Infinity for the first time I was just one big smile, and then the riff from I'm In Your Mind Fuzz came on and I almost burst out laughing with joy.

This was the album that drew me in, I absolutely adore it. But not the album that I listened to first, it wouldn't happen without Flying Microtonal Banana.
I remember browsing through some psychedelic rock compilations, seeing that ridiculous band name and that intriguing album name, and thinking that these guys are absolutely a must-listen band based on the name alone.
Flying Microtonal Banana was a bit too weird for the unprepared ears, though, so I checked out the other high rated album, which happened to be Nonagon Infinity, and after I did, their sound just clicked, and KGATLW remains my favorite band ever since.
And then I listened to Flying Microtonal Banana again, and it became my favorite album of theirs! Check it out if you decide to listen to more Gizz, it's absolutely amazing!

  • @murdockreviews

And we end where this record started.
There is one passage with a bossa groove that almost dives into Stereolab territory 😀
If you particularly enjoyed the track "Road Train", you'll absolutely love their 'metal' album 'Infest the Rats' Nest'.
I keep my fingers crossed that pandemia allows to finally see King Gizzard live this August (re-scheduled concert from 2020! Two bloody years...).

  • @Xandrax

  • @RideTheLightning18

I'd suggest 'Paper Mache Dream Balloon' next THEN go listen to 'I'm In Your Mind Fuzz'

"It ends as it has begun..." : The Great Nothing by Spock's Beard from the album V.
At the end of Transatlantic’s Whirlwind album, there is an infinity sign ♾ produced with a synthesizer swirling from side to side.

I suggest going to my favorite KGLW album next: "Gumboot Soup".
