Yeahhh... King Gizzard!!!! Nonagon Infinity is a great album. Problem is they dont put out that much music. Just two or three albums a year
😆
I really don't understand that gimmick of putting out a ton of crap as much as possible, like you have one good song per album
@@Terminxman Believe me, King Gizzard are different
@@Terminxman Dude, it's more like 1 or 2 bad songs per album and the rest are bangers. Like the other comment, gizz is just different.
@@chrisallen3807 yeah, and they aren't really bad, just not as good as others on the album
Like most of their albums this one has a unique gimmick. In this album all the songs bend into one another. And the last track blends back into the first so the album never actually ends, it loops infinitely. Hence nonagon infinity.
This one really benefits from the digital format ;)
I have both formats. The CD edition does NOT fade in- in starts right at 4:08. (The climax just ends abruptly as well...)
@@l.salisbury1253 I'd never heard the proper version with the fade-in! It's immediately so much cooler and more satisfying than that abrupt ending you mentioned
some say gimmick, I say concept.
Nonagon is the quintessential King Gizzard album, it was their first international success and kicked off a whole slew of theories about the little stories in the lyrics, look up Gizzverse theory. the next 5 albums were all done in one year (including Polygondwanaland, the massive prog rock masterpiece that starts with Crumbling Castle) which was released under a completely free licence for anyone to make their own releases of. definitely have a look at the video clips they did for nonagon infinity, gamma knife and people vultures make one fantastic double feature video.
Great band, always evolving and trying new things.
They certainly aren't shy about influences....but like all great bands anything you hear by them sounds like them. They are uniquely relentless....yeah I think relentless perfectly describes them....🎸🏆
I can't remember who, but someone pointed out that they don't really play to a beat, rather they play to momentum. They always sound like they're moving towards something on this album, only to loop around and start over again. Worth the trip every time.
My favorite thing about King Gizzard & The Lizard is the fact that each album sounds different than the others while sounding similar at the same time...and with so much energy, which translates so well to their live records (I have several of them), but I bet witnessing them playing live to feel that energy in person has got to be amazing...especially when they have both drummers jamming on stage together.
I can't wait for him to get to their three microtonal albums ("Flying Microtonal Banana", "K.G.", and "L.W.")....taking the Liz-Wiz thang to a whole new level.
That's absolutely why I love King Gizzard, even though they dabble in different genre's they don't change their sound. Fuck, at this point King Gizzard could be categorized as their own genre.
@@daffyrwt Speaking truth! There can only be one band in the Giz-Wiz genre.
Stu the lead singer is a massive of YES fan btw 🤘🏼
I am so giddy watching you listen to King Gizzard's masterpiece. The part where you realized that the second track was already underway, I couldn't contain myself cuz you're just starting to catch on to the album's magic trick and I'm just like "just you wait sir!"
I get why people like them, they sound like nothing else out there just as with the Mars Volta.i can respect it definitely not boring they've actually gotten better from their first few albums
Funny you said “real Hawkwind vibes” as King Gizz have covered Hawkwind at their live shows a few times before
I just discovered them yesterday and also felt some Jethro Tull vibes
I like how the microtonal/middle eastern guitar solo throws him for a loop! 😃
He realizes this album fucks from beginning to end at some point!
You HAVE TO (I strongly recommend it ;) ) listen to the whole "Polygondwanaland" album. Their most proggy :D Absolutely mesmerising.
I’ve got it, scheduled for the future!
YES MORE GIZZARD. Highly recommend Infest the rats nest, its very different to their other stuff and well worth a go. the albums KG and LW are fantastic too. :)
5:42 They have actually played part of Master of the Universe by hawkwind leading into the intro of robot stop at some live concerts.
These four tracks just kick my ass at the gym every time
something about having 2 drummers is so good its almost a shame one of them short of retired recently to work on the band owned record label (flightless records) (they are still on very good terms as far as i know)
Yea I wonder if it was because Cavs was kinda of the mastermind of the drums and Eric was kinda just following along and wanted to work on something he more enjoyed. Obviously I don't know what was going on behind the scenes but that's what I think.
Yay. Probably my favourite KG album (so far).
It's the right energy boost after recovering from Covid, I guess. If you are new to the band, this might not seem too impressive at first, in fact it could be a bit monotonous with each track blending into the next and most tracks developing out of a slight variation from the preceding track. But this is very smart (and rocking) stuff 💚
You've become a fan after one song! Even bought a record! I'm beyond elated!
I've actually bought 3 records!
this band legit said quality and quantity
fr
he made a face at the microtonal section in robot stop!
Did he?
I'm the laziest fuck you've ever met, but I feel like running a marathon when I press play on this album.
Thank you for this! Love this band. One of the most creative, talented and unique bands out there. 18 albums to dig through, I hope you enjoy your dive into the Gizzverse!
i love the grittiness of this album. there's not much other music that pumps me up like this album. one of my favorites of all time. love king gizzard and love your reactions and continuous effort with your content
Murder of the Universe is an incredible album. It’s split into 3 chapters telling a story of the apocalypse (hence the name of the album). Absolutely incredible lyrics and music
Nanagon Infinity opens the door!!🚪😂❤️🔥 Yeah excellent album. Though I'm struggling to find an album of theirs not at least good...after 5 years or so of listening to their stuff..... Paper Mache Dream Balloon was my first acquisition back then.....yup also good.... 🤔🤠
Yes! hawkwind and CAN spot on Jim
The first time I saw Gizz was on the Nonagon Infinity tour in Melbourne and I've been hooked ever since. I'm seeing them for the 10th time in a week and a half
King Gizzard have managed to accomplish something only the Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin have: become a genre in-n-of themselves! (This is mainly because, like those afore mention bands their music is difficult to categorize.)
Hey you can’t forget about Primus, the only Band to have it’s own ID3 genre tag
i love this album on streaming because of the Loop
These guys are very worth seeing live if you ever get the opportunity. Crazy energy!
I love this album, but am blown away for some reason by the stellar packaging.
If you just knew… side a side b dosn‘t matter! Nonagon Infintiy baby! Welcome to the Gizzverse 🤤
I listened to a dozen songs or more when I had my Patreon channel last year for song reactions (no copyright issues there!) and I was always impressed with this young bands work.
Yup, that I’ve heard so far is super impressive!
They actually released something today
You Legend!
Yeah, it looks like a complete remix, re-writing, remastering, and re-envisioning of the entire "Butterfly 3000" album (called "Butterfly 3001")...but I haven't checked it out yet. Personally, "Butterfly 3000" fell pretty short for me (probably my least favorite KGLW album), so maybe I'll like this new & hopefully improved version of it better...we'll see.
Cheers!
Cool! This is a new KG album to me. I’ve heard maybe a half dozen of their many albums. I like it. I like the band, but I find them a bit relentless. A little more diversity in tempo and dynamics would suit them well, I think. By the end of an album I find myself feeling full, rather than hungry for more. Try their album “Float Along-Fill Your Lungs.”
They've got a lot of diversity on other albums (Paper Mâché, Fill your lungs, Microtonal Banana, Polygondwanaland, L.W., and the most recent one, Omnium Gatherum, maybe the best example). But with this one, it's just the concept
Check out their album Murder of the Universe if you wanna check out some more Nonagon Infinity-esque tunes. Borrows heavily from that album and would absolutely recommend. Cheers!
Nonagon Infinity opens the door.
Nonagon Infinity opens the door.
This album makes my neck hurt in all the best ways.
Nice!
Experienced the same joy as you when I listened my first time. You should keep digging into their discography - it's a wild ride!
Loved watching someone listen to nonagon infinity and the waves of appreciation for the subtle moments and lite motifs as they get absorbed by the relentless energy & jam that is Giz.
Good vid, always nice to see someone who picks up the little tweaks and vibing with their reaction as it is pretty representative of my own reactions whenever I listen thru the album. Shall be subbing
Love King Gizzard. I remember hearing this album for the first time. If you could distill pure energy onto an album, this is what it would sound like. The fact that they constantly change up their sound while also still sounding like themselves is incredibly impressive. They once put out 5 albums in the same year and all of them are fantastic. One of my favorite bands.
They sound amazing don’t they!
Wow! Like if The Black Keys met Blues Traveler mixed with Haken, Early Spock’s Beard, Transatlantic….Great Prog rock!
I can’t wait for this one!
Jim, yesterday somebody recommended me an album of something I never heard before. I dont know why it stuck in my mind so today going to work I put it on spotify and listened.
The "band" was called Syrek - and the album is called Story. It just blew my mind, really off the charts musicianship I beleive you will enjoy as much as I did. I got to work and immediately looked them up. How on earth could be such musicians benn kept off my radar.... and then it clicked. I read a review that made me feel the same as the writer: " I have to admit, I feel slightly embarrassed that I’ve not come across guitarist/composer/teacher Terry Syrek before now. Especially as he has worked with an impressive list of renowned artists including Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci and many others.
For this, his fourth album Terry has assembled a veritable international supergroup. Sharing bass guitar duties are Bryan Beller (The Aristocrats, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai….) from America, and Indian bass prodigy Mohini Dey (Steve Vai, Tony McAlpine….). On keyboards is Lalle Larsson (Karmakanic, Electrocution 250, Agents of Mercy….) from Sweden. Completing this amazing line-up are Romanian virtuoso violin player Florian Cristea and esteemed German drummer Marco Minnemann."
That does sound interesting!
It sounds very much like the Dalex have started to make musix.
This Album was my entry into the world of KG/LW And im in love with this band!
Nonagon Infinity is a burning package of pure energy! Im on board with every new album / although not every album hits me like nonagon :D
Jim Jim Jim, this is marvelous , and yes, it reminds me of Motorpsycho too !!
Imagine my surprise! I got here from listening to your Genesis SEBTP reaction. I'm probably one of the very few handful of fans of both bands. These guys are great; eclectic af
Nonagon Infinity opens the door AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Such a fun intro. Glad I was able to catch them on the tour for this album
brilliant album
Love the With Teeth cameo.
fun fact that others have already told you probably: Nonagon Infinity is an infinitely looping album, every song transitions into each other perfectly and the last song fades into the first one too
Yeah they sometimes do a Nektar and have seamless transitions....speaking of which when are you doing that fab album of theirs you bought??? I'm still waiting to listen to it with you sir!!!🙏🙏🙏🥳🤠🤗
I most certainly will do. Watch this space….
I've ordered the LW album. This one's next. Outstanding!
Awesome! 👍🏼
This album is incredible
Nooooo Jim....it's Spring Flizzard and the Quizzard Blizzard!👻😂
Lol!
Yes!!!
Very fun reaction, thanks
there's a video on UA-cam of KG performing the 1st 4 tracks here at the Paradiso in Amsterdam in 2018. Crowd goes bonkers!
Best band in the world right now. Bar none
I've always wanted to see someones first reaction!
Strangely the two previous videos i listened to before this were reaction videos by Muse & Yes from Jamal AKA Jamal. Was seeing if he had listened to any King Giz and found you
fellow jamel enjoyer
You found a gem. One of many in the king Gizzard Treasure Chest
you could say it's a Zanzibar gem
@@Bumblin-Bun hahhahahhahahahhahahahhahahahahhahahahhahahahahahhahahahahaha
Nonagon is freaking insanely epic but if you think this rocks, wait till you hear Infest The Rats Nest. Brain melting. You got to react to that too!
WHoaaaAaAaA freaky sweet lois!!!!!!!!!
Hey Jim, which label is your Nonagon Infinity vinyl from? Wondering which pressing I should get.
G̤e̤n̤t̤l̤e̤ ̤G̤i̤a̤n̤t̤ T̤h̤r̤e̤e̤ ̤F̤r̤i̤e̤n̤d̤s̤ Full Album
100% yes…. Got it in the collection, scheduled for future broadcast!
The drums can be their only downfall on occasion in the mix wise for me - that tinny high ticking drum can dominate and ruin the feels on occasion especially on earphones....but most albums it's fine though....like you say Jim the lo fi side of their sound is part of their charm though...👍
Never heard about them.
Again these distorted voices which I can’t stand.
Indeed Hawkwind pops into my mind.
And I have to stop listening or I’ll get a headache (highly sensitive).
This is their lofi album, a lot of their other stuff has clean vocals if that's more your thing :)
Yeah maybe you'd like their albums like quarters or fishing for fishies better. They're a bit calmer and less abrasive
King Giz is just too busy for me. I’ve tried and tried to get into them. It just seems like they’re trying too hard.
Complete opposite for me. For me having ADHD it was a fantastic joy digging to everyone of their 17 Albums. They covering different genres, moods and vibes, having also mellow albums & tracks. But what’s most impressive for me is: These guys find their own style & tone and everytime they trying a new genre, they injecting this unique style into it. Love them!
Although I agree they're still eclectic enough that there's some songs I like that are more structured and less chaos. The mellower songs like kepler 22b, rolling stoned (especially) and If not now then when.
Sounds like you need to eat some psychedelics and listen again.
