    Great video. Thank you. As someone mentioned earlier, get the Lisle Harmonic Socket. It is worth its weight in gold, zips the pulley bolt right off. Take it from someone who has spent days trying to remove a Honda bolt before.

      That bolt was a lot more difficult to break free than any bolt on my 1967 Camaro that is full of rust. I thought the breaker bar was going to fail. I am impressed with the toughness of that breaker bar.

    @Engineering Guy,
    When I did mine, I counted fifteen (15) 10mm hex bolts and one (1) 14 mm hex head bolt. You had stated 14 10mm and 1 14 mm. Just wanted to let everyone doing this job not to miss the one 10mm bolt in the circle area after removing the solenoid valve body 🙂

    When replacing the timing chain do i have to replay the tensioner too or is it an extra piece?

    • @engineeringguy6774
      @engineeringguy6774  2 роки тому

      You do not have to replace it, but if your timing chain needs replaced then the tensioner probably needs to be replaced as the spring inside the unit will fatigue.

  • @Anthony-hy4ew
    @Anthony-hy4ew 10 місяців тому

    What happens if the timing chain tensioner key hole is way off the hole alignment even when I turn the crank shaft counterclockwise a little to try to decompress it to put a new tensioner in to replace

    • @engineeringguy6774
      @engineeringguy6774  10 місяців тому +1

      I just had that happen to me 2 months ago. I think the tensioner over extended. My link was rotating the wrong way. I just unbolted it and took it out. You have to be careful so the plunger doesn't just shoot out. I then had to buy a new one to reinstall.

    • @engineeringguy6774
      @engineeringguy6774  Рік тому

      To insure the correct timing, replacement of the chain and sprockets is the only way. Typically it's the chain, but I recommend replacing the sprockets while everything is apart.

    How did you get the intake cam to line up? My timing looks the same as yours. It lines up at the crank but intake cam is off

    • @fruitydudexD
      @fruitydudexD Рік тому

      On the other side of the cams, opposite the gears, there are holes in the cam pulse plates. When you set the cam to time, you can put a dowel in that hole and through the hole in the cam cap and it keeps it in place while you put the chain on and tensioner and all that. One hole in each cam. I used Allen keys. (You can buy the actual tool by looking up Honda cam lock pin) Remember to take them off when you are done putting the whole timing assembly back together.

      I bought individual parts. I bought almost everything from Summit Racing. I paid $90 for the chain, $39 for the tensioner, $155 for the Variable Timing Sprocket, and $45 for the cam sprocket. The gaskets cam from O'Reilly's Auto parts for under $10.
