In some cases a blend of silk and decent cashmere can be very desirable, the silk increases strength, and thus durability, as well as 'body' or stiffness, whilst still being a skin friendly, natural fabric.
Cashmere keeps you about 8 times warmer than any other fabric and it really shows in the Winter. I was wearing a Cashmere Dress from mongolia (I dont think it's the highest quality) but when I forgot my coat in the car and we had to wait for 1 hour outside, oh yes...I noticed how Cashmere kept me warmer than any other fabric....like magic. I think that's the whole purpose of Cashmere
We buy grade A cashmere fibre from Mongolia for about 140-150 USD/Kg usually at 15.5 microns avg, but it being a short fibre, we lose some during dyeing, combing, spinning and weaving in-house. We supply indirectly to few of the brands mentioned above, and they usually use grade B for sweaters and grade A for scarfs, depends on if it’s next to skin or not. Blends are not always to cut cost and it increases avg length and helps us process cashemere.

Club Room cashmere sweaters have been my mom's go-to Christmas gift for me for a while and up until the past 2 years, they've been great. I tried on a new color (salmon pink) in the store this year and noticed how incredibly thin they have become - I could see my undershirt through it. They finally cut a big corner on quality and I think I've got enough of the better ones in my closet now.
Yes, I bought one this year and I can see my shirt thru it. I liked the sweater and decided to keep it. Too bad we can't find the same quality as before anymore.
I can ALWAYS count on Fort Belvedere for true quality. They take pride in being the REAL McCoy... I ordered several cashmere V-necks this year from NADAAM, and Everlane, four in total. They're nice and overall pretty good cashmere sweaters, but I have pilling now on the Navy one, and you can kind of just tell that they are not....top top of the line. I knew it when I looked at the NADAAM catalogue only to see hoodies and sweat suits made out of the same cashmere for relatively low prices. I'm glad I purchased the V-necks...but that will be enough from those companies. I'd rather from now on, save up, pay more, get higher quality. Thank you.
None of this is specific to budget cashmere retailers. I have several Ralph Lauren Purple Label cashmere sweaters. I also have a Brunello Cucinelli cashmere sweater and I don’t remember any info of where it came from on the product pages. I’ve had those sweaters for about 7-8 years and they still look great, but I’m pretty sure they had no information about the cashmere on the tags or the product pages when I bought them. I have several cashmere blends from other brands that I have had for a while and they have held up well. I actually prefer the cashmere silk blends and think they hold up pretty well.
I have told my family for years that cost is not a reason to purchase any particular item. I'd rather spend the money for quality then get a less expensive item. Which makes me a somewhat difficult client regarding clothing. That doesn't disregard fabric construction, material or fit.
OK, we've established that budget cashmere is inferior compered to the better grades of cashmere, but how does it fare compared to the finer textured sheep wools, like Merino? For a light, layering sweater, which is the better buy-budget cashmere or a solid, middle-grade Merino?

You’re right, but not even Loro Piana gives these details as a matter of routine. Sometimes I’ve seen it from them, but NOT always. The industry does not want the micron measurement to become the norm at the retail level. A wealthy buyer will not buy the cheap stuff anyway, and providing the microns will only deter the budget buyer. Nonetheless, anyone buying the $55 “cashmere” sweater is still buying something at least equal to wool, as far as the material is concerned. Budget cashmere generally isn’t worse than wool (excepting specialty wool like some merino wools or Zegna’s 15 milmil 15.)

It's endlessly frustrating when companies do that. But the durability of even quality cashmere sucks. Adding merino substantially increases the durability of the garment. Personally, once you get to about 30% cashmere, the feel is almost imperceptible from 100% cashmere unless you have exceptionally sensitive skin.
When and if you guys ever reach 10 million subs or maybe 5 million, Some milestone you should do a video on vicuña and other extreme luxury fabrics and wools that costs as much as cars and sometimes houses.
@@FoxyPercival714 Probably talking about vegans. They think that all animals are treated badly by humans, so they bad-mouth all animal products, including cashmere. Such ignorance. As demonstrated in this video, cashmere is sourced from animals that aren't mistreated. If they were mistreated, it would harm both the producers' bottom line and the quality of the cashmere.
Suits, yes. Sweaters, also yes but it is very difficult and time consuming so few tailors will do it. You can learn to on your own though, I would recommend starting with a very cheap sweater, possibly thrifted so that mistakes aren’t costly. The thicker the yarn, the easier it is to work with using knitting needles. If it is very thin and fine, a sewing machine on certain settings can be used, but handsewing is probably better.
Honestly, I wouldn't buy cashmere for anything but beanies and scarves. Good cashmere is insanely expensive and it still won't last when exposed to regular use.
It's funny to see how Uniqlo is a low end brand for clothes in America meanwhile here in the Philippines, Uniqlo products are something we save our money for 😂
1105: "Inner Mongolia". this means the north-eastern province of *China* (PRC) bordering Mongolia, not the nation of Mongolia proper. I think the retailer Everlane is deliberately misleading us.
Nonsense..I have 1 cashmere from a so called famous Italian house and another one from a so called notorious American brand…neither of them specified the micron details etcccc..and lately I bot one from Uniqlo on sake for less than 100 usd which protect me as good as the first 2..bottom line we got ripped off and cashmere is cashmere
are you sure that cashmere is cashmere haha? Are you sure? Because it isn't. I would agree you probably don't get what you pay for, but there CERTAINLY is a difference between short length strand cashmere, and long strand cashmere. The length of the strands are the single most important factor in determining how durable it'll be. You say that you bought it 'lately'. Are you sure that you should form an opinion so quickly? Perhaps wear them every day for a season and let me know how that goes. You will certainly be able to tell a difference between short strand cashmere and long strand, because the short strand one is going to start developing a bunch of holes and pilling. That said, I'm not saying that you get what you pay for. That's why i end up just buying used quality name brands, like Johnston of Elgin, i just scored one for 30 bucks shipped and delivered online two days ago. That is normally a 200-600 dollars sweater. That's going to hold up a LOT better than uniqlo. They unfortunately just can't pay the same prices are johnston can for the long strand, brushed cashmere.
Pretty disappointed you didn't provide even one counterexample of high quality cashmere with an associated description of the material used and its providence. I don't mind the FB sponsor spots in every video but it's largely unfair to criticize multiple manufacturers without providing any alternatives or examples of such apart from your own business. Since you only offer accessories it's not giving anyone a competitive advantage.
That was the point of the video. Companies don't have to show what grade their cashmere is and if they do show their cashmere grade, companies can lower costs in the manufacturing process not just materials. Jcrew for example, uses above average materials compared to other mall brands but they save money when they manufacture the materials in clothes

Buying directly from the source = budget cashmere?
Me and Preston wear the same size.
Is it possible to tailor cashmere?
Never stop with these jokes. Thanks i apreciate.
guys can you make a video about camel hair.. is it worth buying?
Immediately demolished the like button for that pun.
Honestly, I wouldn't buy cashmere for anything but beanies and scarves. Good cashmere is insanely expensive and it still won't last when exposed to regular use.
It's funny to see how Uniqlo is a low end brand for clothes in America meanwhile here in the Philippines, Uniqlo products are something we save our money for 😂
Considered low end for cashmere but most Americans can not afford cashmere. Most Americans wear very cheap synthetics or synthetic blends
I love cashmere!
Thank you ❤
Be careful while walking and don't wind up knee deep in sheep dip, as they say buyer beware. I just found out fast fashion isn't a new thing.
Preston is awesome!
I want a video about dressing gown.
This is the one for you! www.gentlemansgazette.com/pajamas-dressing-gown-guide/?
Preston is so punny 🤣
1105: "Inner Mongolia". this means the north-eastern province of *China* (PRC) bordering Mongolia, not the nation of Mongolia proper. I think the retailer Everlane is deliberately misleading us.
I think out of wall these budget cashmere brands gobi looked most promising
in what world is saks and Nordstrom is budget cashmere, one cost 140 bucks and the other costs 200 bucks
That's low end for men's cashmere sweaters.
Have you begged for more free stuff from Spier Mackay since your last video?
Didn't det my hands on anything better that Loro Pianas cashmere yet
Cashmere is very cheap and prolific in Nepal where it is called Pashina..I saw it everywhere in Kathmandu..
There is no such thing as a budget cashmere just like there is no such thing as a budget Rolls Royce or budget Hermes bag.
