Im 23, and I grew up dancing. And because of that, I grew up watching Shirley Temple movies with my Grandmas and my mom. We collected a lot of the remastered versions in color, but seeing the authentic costumes is really something else. I always thought as a child that I grew up in the wrong time period. I wanted so badly to be just like Shirley, and I always wondered what it had been like to actually be alive during a time when movies weren't just acting. You really had to do it all and one-take Shirley was one of the best for sure. Right up there with Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire, Bill Bojangles, and all the other greats from her time. Truly amazing.
How did I not know about this? Absolutely amazing! ❤❤❤❤❤ I just adore Shirley Temple. The costumes are so beautiful, wow 🙂 My favorite movie is Captain January and I have my own collection to enjoy.
Difficult, tricky presentation handled so beautifully by Florence Theriault. Florence's famous enthusiasm making this a Collector's Item - thank you Florence. Good on pointing out the vision of Shirley's mom, i.e. saving/preserving - that's genius (Shirley as a performer) on top of genius (Wardrobe Preservation).
her costumes were really pretty-it was nice 2 see them in color-with her films being black/white. they sure stood the test of time. it was something that her mother decided to preserve them-a lot of costumes from that era probably are never kept.
I know people have stated this, but seeing these in color- my goodness. 😍What an American treasure! I’m so glad Theriaults did this auction- no one would have done a finer job!
I'm very surprised it wasn't mentioned (as it is in Shirley Temple's autobiography) that the polka dot dress from "Stand Up and Cheer" was made by Shirley's mother, Gertrude
I wish things like clothing and furniture and other stuff like that these days were the same as the stuff people had and used back then. I'm only in my first year of high school and I'm just so fascinated by all of that stuff. And I wish that movies these days were still the same as the movies back then
