Great question, any per diem pay is not taxed so will count as profit. So if you make $1000 but $400 of that is per diem then you only pay taxes on the remaining $600 instead of the entire amount. Then after the taxes is taking out of the $600 then the $400 is added back in helping you reduce your taxable income. You know the saying the more you make the more they take ?

The 345 isn’t taxed so you’re just saving taxes on that 345 which is the 90 you’re talking about
