Before buying a new relay I wanted to know where in the Jeep to find it. Your video showed me, and I was able to solder the contacts, so thanks, saved me money and stopped the no turn signal problem!
I had this same problem. I followed the video. 15 minutes later i saved $60 in parts and $100 in labor. Not to bad for a UA-cam fix. Great job explaining the process and the reason.
I am a 65 year old retired diesel fitter who doesn't do electronics!..My 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been with numerous auto sparks...never fixed my indicators!..Cracking up..I found this by accident...Worked first time...Thank you. Davy. Portstewart N.Ireland.
Even tho’ this vid is over 10 years old it is worth its weight in GOLD! Thank YOU so Much for taking the time to save me a lot of stress and a sh*t load of $$$. Now, if you can tell me why only my driver’s window go up and down then i will really have my prayers answered.
I did exactly as you instructed and I have nothing but praise for your effort. You showed me how to fix my Jeep's signal problem and I did it the way you showed how it could be done. Thanks, my friend.
Thanks a lot. Just soldered my relay after left turn signal didn`t work. Now it works perfect again. Your video help has reached all the way to Norway. Saved a lot of money on this.
OMG, it worked, My turn signal went out about a week ago. I found this video and followed your video and now they are working again, Thank you very much for posting your fix here it saved me some money.
How often would I find exactly the right solution so quickly, with exactly the right symptoms and perfect details to fix something like this exactly right on the very first try? You just saved us a trip to the auto parts store and the cost of a relay. We didn’t even add more solder, only touched the critical points with the iron and now we are back in business. Excellent video my friend, and worth a new subscriber!
Thanks a lot for this video. Just recently had an intermittent trouble where the flasher would quit working just like in the video. The whole internet seemed to have their own idea as to what the problem was, but you sir, nailed it. Had 2 connection where the solder was cracked. Time will tell if this was THE fix i needed, but im confident!
Had a similar problem on my Jeep Laredo: the right turn indicator stopped working this week. In my case, the dry solder joint was in the middle of the circuit board, where one of the relay legs is attached electrically. Quick solder and all working 100% Thanks for the tutorial!
Used this for my 2003 Grand Cherokee Larado. Other than not being able to move the fuse box down to make it easier I managed to remove the relay. I had to replace because after I soldered only one side of the flasher repaired. I still saved on repair charges sending it to the shop! Good stuff!!!
First, let me say thank you a thousand times! You saved me a good chunk of change and made me prove to myself that my "contorter" still actually works, lol. I have been disabled due to several conditions and being able to work on my own vehicle was something I truly thought I would never be doing again. My relay is now functioning like a champ. I already had a solder iron and solder on hand as I was senior tech for almost 2 decades on my last job as a component level repair tech.
Thanks for the help. I was able to replace (didn't want to chance a repair) the relay switch. A tip to anyone trying this - my wire harness to the fuses was so tight with no slack at all you can't get full access to the switch. Drop it as far as you can and then you'll need to remove the bad switch and replace working blind. A little aggravating but it can be done. Anyway - it worked.
Dude. Thankyou so much much. This fixed my wj 2003 jeep with the same indicator problem. I did exactly what you showed and it worked! The connections did not look a problem but I resoldered anyway and works. You also saved me a lot by not needing to take it to a auto electrician.
Awesome! I am glad to hear that this video helped you and that you actually soldered to repair it. I still have the jeep and the relay still works just as good ever since I repaired it and uploaded this video. - March 11, 2016
You saved me $65 + shipping. Thanks for making this video. I had cracked solder joints right on the edges. 5 minutes waiting for the soldering iron to heat up, and I was done. God bless.
Thanks for this video. This just saved me $60 at the parts store. The flashers on my Jeep Grand Cherokee 1999 failed yesterday. The front two were both stuck permanently on (just on not flashing) whilst the rear two were both off. Neither switching left, right nor hazards had any effect. After checking the fuse (all ok) I removed the flasher relay and it had cracked terminals. A quick solder later with a $1 soldering iron from the dollar store and everything is working great again.
I have a Jeep Cherokee sport 2001. I also followed your video like so many have and repaired the relay the very first time. When I took the relay apart the solder joints looked fine and strong, so I wasn't confident that it work. Since I had it apart I thought I have nothing to lose. I soldered a very small amount as you suggested and IT WORKED!!!!!! I would like to say thank you for sharing and giving me the feeling of success that made my day. Best of all my 19 year old daughter was once more impressed with her dad that could fix the problem and send her on her way. That doesn't happen to often these days.
thank you my friends dad took mine aprt and looked at it and they stated working what ever he did, then i did it last night and i finally got it after looking for the right socket out of my dads tool box, this really helped.
I just found out today my signals and hazard lights weren't working on 2001 GCL. I stopped by AutoZone to pick up the relay only to find they would have to order it and they had 2 to choose from and didn't know which I needed. I didn't buy it but went home with the part numbers and prices and figured maybe its cheaper online and fortunately I ran into your video. You saved me $59.99 + tax. Thank you
Thank you for posting this, it's still helping people after all these years. I live in Alaska and in a somewhat rural area. I would have needed to order the part and it was going to take two weeks to arrive unless I paid express shipping (we only have one auto parts store in our village). The part was $87.99 and the shipping was $15 bucks. Thanks to you, it cost me nothing but a half hour of my time. Thank you.
This video is awesome, VERY helpful and saved me $$$!! All I would add is soldering in those small spaces was impossible for me, so I did not added an new solder, I simply re-heated the old solder (liquefied it again) let it set, and it worked! I was good to go!
Thanks for the vid, Left signal didn't work, right signal and flashers did. Took it apart and the relay looked fine, no cracks in the solder etc. Pushed the relay and all the other bits in that panel in tightly back together, key back in and boom worked. 20~30 minutes start finish. Thanks again, with out seeing this vid I would have started with the switch and would have been wrong, so you saved me a lot of time and trouble!!
Cheers for this! Saved me ages faffing around trying to find out why the hazards didnt work but the indicators did!!! Took all of 5 minutes to do and all working again!
Nice job on this video. I've had this problem on my Jeep for a few months. I could see the cracked terminals. No solder necessary, just heated the solder that was there to let it melt back together. I'll probably get another 200,000 miles out of the blinker relay now!
Woooah! I did everything you suggested (it wasn't easy since I am not mechanically inclined) and the fact that it's a bit harder to get to my relay, but guess what I solder a couple of solder connections that looked cracked and PRESTO done and it's working great. Thanks for your very informative video. Rafael.
Thanks for posting this, other common jeep problems are rear tail light terminals and the cooling fan relay sensor. Thats the only problems I've had in 8 years. Can't complain :)
i had the same problem on my 2003 jeep. i followed your video step by step and replaced the relay. it works now. thank you for your video. the relay cost me $60. i dont have a soldering iron.
Hello there everyone! I love your comments, and I appreciate your gratitude, I never imagined that this simple video would help so many people in one way or another. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience!
At the 'fount of all knowledge, [a guy in the pub], discussing your comments, suggested it might be a short in the tow-bar socket. Just found out there is a micro-switch in there: that was the problem on mine! I rang my esteemed mechanic, who says he thought of that after we spoke and was waiting for me to phone, to tell me. [yea, right]. Please share this tit-bit. NONE of the 'main dealer' bods admitted to having a clue; I wonder how many bits they would have swapped, to cure it?
Yeah Buddy!i!i! Thank you for this video. I am sure it has helped many people on many different fronts. To help instill the confidence in people that they can do things and help to teach them that anything is possible. In a world that seems full of Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt at this time your simple video from years ago is still helping people and spreading some good vibe. As well as saving a couple of bucks in the process. lol Much Love
Thank you, Thank you! My blinkers have been acting up for a few months now, and this morning they finally quit. I watched your video, and replaced the part myself. Total time about 2 hours including trip to Auto parts store. They Work! Yeah! I am not a mechanic I am a nurse and 62 yrs old. If I can do this anyone can
Add another to the long list of people you helped out. The problem I had was identical only the symptom was intermittent. Sometimes the turn signals worked sometimes they did. Found cracks in the solder joints. Heated them up, added a bite more solder, seems to have fixed the problem.
my left blinker would work about 20% of the time, i just assumed it was the switch. i spent 85 nonrefundable dollars on the switch, only to find out that was not the problem. my solder joints were ok, just a lose relay im assuming. put some dielectric sauce on her and plugged her in, working like a charm. thank you for saving my headaches and money
ok, did this today, i didn't even have to pull the fuse board down, but did use a flash light to match up the pin orientation. soldering was not as hard as i thought, just got the top of the pin hot, then barely tapped daubs of solder wire on it, it flowed down and filled the cracks. thanks for your video.
Dude, this video saved my bacon, THANK YOU! I'm not a car guy. Although I can solder (just not great at it), I went ahead and replaced it with a new non-OEM relay switch ($30 on Amazon.com) and this video helped me install it.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My turn signals suddenly stopped working I was worried I'd have to pay someone loads of money to fix :/ but this video helped me out did everything you said and now they work :D !!! Thank you!!!!
Man, mine just started doing this today, first video I watched the guy uses a rubber mallet and hits the underside of the plastic shroud by the steering wheel and it worked... Until I shut off the engine. Guess I'll be picking up a soldering iron tonight. Thanks for the video, wish me luck haha
Thank You, Thank You! Going to do this today and hoping it works. Have had this same problem for 3 yrs. Works most of the time in the Spring, Summer, and into the fall, but come cold weather have to drive at least 30 minutes for it to work. Hope this is the fix! Wish me luck!
Thank you so much for this video you just saved me $60. O'Reillys had it in stock. It was a pain in the ass to take that stuff off to get to it though. Especially doing it in Alabama heat... It was 110 hear index here today but by God I did it!
Thanks for the money saving video. My 2000 GC had a Intermittent left turn signal issue, removed and inspected the relay, i could see cracked solder joints at the lugs, re-soldered, working well so far. I had to replace the ECM on this vehicle at 155K (Ebay cheepo rebuild with hole cut to access solder joints on chip( I'm told)) and again at 165K, went with a Cardone this time they seemed to have done a proper job, no hole cut in case. Twice the price but having the engine stop running while driving down the road is a bit unnerving. Odd that Jeep has an issue with solder joints cracking.
Make sure , you redo all the connections, not just the one or two , broken , as I noticed , they are all brittle , and just fixing one , may result in others being damage, so solder all , again , to be sure not fix one and break another , and then have to go back several times, , but great tip , and excellent video
Nice bro. Thank u so much dawg.. I have been trying to figure that out for a few days now. I tried what u did and it worked the first time. Thanks again bro
thanks and great video, you should make more. not everyone can explain and video as well as you did in this one. I'm going to go out and fix my turn signal relay now :)
Everything was great, you just forgot to mention the 3rd bolt on top to pull out the board. Other than that, everything here is excellent! :) GOOD JOB!
Thank you so much, gonna go return my 70$ multination switch that naturally did nothing. PS you don't have to remove the fuse/relay block, you can feel it out pretty easy. Less time than going to the parts store not to mention cost. Thanks again
I'm having the same problem with my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The turn signals work when they want to. I never know when they will work or not. So, this video is very helpful and will hopefully help resolve my problem. I have a question though. I've had people flag me down to tell me that my rear tail light blinks on and off as I'm driving; especially at night. How would you go about starting to diagnose that problem? Thanks in advance for your input.
I had trouble with turning left signal. was working only if I put hazard lights first. tough I need to solder the terminals but opening up there was no apparent defect. tested with multimeter, all god. put back in, still the same behavior. I thought must be the connector but access to it it's ugly, so I plied a tiny bit the terminals and put it back in, works fine since. I suspect corrosion in connector and plying the pin might scratched a bit for better contact. so before ordering replacements, spend some time diagnosing the actual issue.

Just replaced the turn signal relay based on your video. Thanks for the help.
+stevebitburg Me too, video helped a ton.
Before buying a new relay I wanted to know where in the Jeep to find it. Your video showed me, and I was able to solder the contacts, so thanks, saved me money and stopped the no turn signal problem!
left signal was working intermittently, just did this today, resoldered and threw it back in, thanks.

Hey! So I no longer have that Jeep - but I’ve made a new video that may still help you!
Terminals were cracked, so I re-soldered them and now work fine. Saved me 28 bucks, easy fix. thank you
I did exactly as you instructed and I have nothing but praise for your effort. You showed me how to fix my Jeep's signal problem and I did it the way you showed how it could be done. Thanks, my friend.

Thanks, found the problem and saved the sixty bucks on a new relay. tried the solder trick and it worked! thanks again.
In 1993 I replaced the flasher on my 1985 Pontiac Firebird, cost me 6 bucks.
2001 Jeep Cherokee 70 dollars 😮.

I just pulled out and re-soldered my signal relay. Thank you so much for making this video. You saved me hundreds of dollars. I really appreciate it.
Thanks dude. You just saved me $85 and a possible ticket. Awesome.
Thanks. For posting this. Video. I spend. 5 dlls. And. My blinkers. Are. Working. Perfect now. ..
Thank you I saved a lot money by fixing this problem on my jeep But the feeling is priceless Thank U Thank U
Thank you, Thank you! My blinkers have been acting up for a few months now, and this morning they finally quit. I watched your video, and replaced the part myself. my left blinker would work about 20% of the time, i just assumed it was the switch. i spent 85 nonrefundable dollars on the switch, only to find out that was not the problem. my solder joints were ok, just a lose relay im assuming. put some dielectric sauce on her and plugged her in, working like a charm. thank you for saving my headaches and money
I've never heard of dielectric sauce haha, is this a code name for some form of conductive material?
ok, did this today, i didn't even have to pull the fuse board down, but did use a flash light to match up the pin orientation. soldering was not as hard as i thought, just got the top of the pin hot, then barely tapped daubs of solder wire on it, it flowed down and filled the cracks. thanks for your video.
Dude, this video saved my bacon, THANK YOU! I'm not a car guy. Although I can solder (just not great at it), I went ahead and replaced it with a new non-OEM relay switch ($30 on Amazon.com) and this video helped me install it.
A year has passed and still good.
JOEROCKCANE , is there another screw? I can't seem to pop it right out like you did
Dylan Pedersen yeah I forgot to include a screw found on the left face of the large underside panel
ua-cam.com/video/aPQVCexrlNc/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
thanks for the video. I bought the replacement part in case I cannot not fix it. $60 part. can't wait to give it a try.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My turn signals suddenly stopped working I was worried I'd have to pay someone loads of money to fix :/ but this video helped me out did everything you said and now they work :D !!! Thank you!!!!
Awesome!!!
Just used this video to fix my Jeep. Saved some $. Thank you!
This is greatt guide lines how to fix this problem. Thanks a lot for sharing this information. This works on my car.
All The Best to you!
Awesome video. Thank you for the up close and detailed shots of the relay. You did a nice job.
How did it go?
IDKNOTHINGJ16 so fast and easy and it workssss!!! Thank You so much for this video!!!
Nice. You're the man. Thanks for posting this!
thank you it was the perfect fix I dont know how much money the relay is but you saved me some cash.Very helpful
Changed mine out about 2 years ago, it worked for a week and went out again... sometimes they'll work and sometimes they wont, I'm stumped!!!
Great work! Perfect explanations for a common problem.
I just employed your fix, and it worked. Thanks man for the vid!
Thanks a lot I have just fixed it n saved about 40 Euros. Thanks again.
I had the same symptoms as you and did your repair. It's all good now! Thanks man.
worked like a charm with solder
Thank You, Thank You! Going to do this today and hoping it works. Have had this same problem for 3 yrs. Works most of the time in the Spring, Summer, and into the fall, but come cold weather have to drive at least 30 minutes for it to work. Hope this is the fix! Wish me luck!
Outstanding video, repaired my relay as you did- works perfectly! Thanks for taking the time to make it.
Thanks a million...VERY HELPFUL...replaced the switch today works fine now
Thank you so much for this video you just saved me $60. O'Reillys had it in stock. It was a pain in the ass to take that stuff off to get to it though. Especially doing it in Alabama heat... It was 110 hear index here today but by God I did it!
JEEEEEEEEEP
Ya damn right
Very informative video! Mine works intermittently - sometimes just restarting it fixes it but lately it's more frequent - time to replace - thanks!!
Worked the 1st time i tried it....thanks for the video
i love you bro. i do this once every 4 years or so lmao. works every time
Great video. I’ve repaired stuff like this on my 2002 Grand Cherokee. One of them was my ac blower. Soldered where it was unsoldered and Ella, fine!
Ella? Do you mean Voila?
@@vbarone I meant Walla, done.🤣🤣
Thanks for the money saving video.
My 2000 GC had a Intermittent left turn signal issue, removed and inspected the relay, i could see cracked solder joints at the lugs, re-soldered, working well so far.

your video has my blinkers working again. Not mechanically inclinded so just bought a new relay and now they work
This saved me 60 bucks man!!!!
About to go put a new one in and save myself a few hundred bucks. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this, my wife's '04 had this exact issue as well, thanks so much!
You like to get right to the point, which I like. Thanks!
Make sure , you redo all the connections, not just the one or two , broken , as I noticed , they are all brittle , and just fixing one , may result in others being damage, so solder all , again , to be sure not fix one and break another , and then have to go back several times, , but great tip , and excellent video

Cool, rock on. We'll be there :o)
Turn signal indicator was flashing fast as if bulb was bad...nope.. crack in the solder.. Thankz!!!!
very good video, reliable and easy to understand.. thanks again you save me time and money.!!
Great video thanks for taking the time to walk us thru the fix.
I tried, haha
I'm having the same problem with my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The turn signals work when they want to. I never know when they will work or not. So, this video is very helpful and will hopefully help resolve my problem. I have a question though. I've had people flag me down to tell me that my rear tail light blinks on and off as I'm driving; especially at night. How would you go about starting to diagnose that problem? Thanks in advance for your input.
This helped fix my signal issue. And your bumping EYEDEA! Thanks!!!
Thank you for this video saved me money you were right the solder was cracked simple solder fix.
thanks man very helpful, i just used a torch and metal dentist tool and fused the crack back together looks strong enough for awhile!
Nice method, thanks for watching!
I love that e&a background!
Jeep repaired!! Thanks It is nice not to worry about a Traffic Ticket!!! Thanks
Awesome !!! my 92 jeep turn signal one side just stayed on and goes off when ever she feels liked (I still have no luck finding the source)
I suspect corrosion in connector and plying the pin might scratched a bit for better contact. so before ordering replacements, spend some time diagnosing the actual issue.
just resolderd it now it works , thanks man .
Same exact vehicle and same exact taste in music... RIP eyedea
Great job,one of the best detailed video's, Thankyou
