Geoguessr - Geodetective - 2 minutes per round! [PLAY ALONG]

- Had a lot of requests for this since the first geodetective video, so here's another one except with a 2 minute timer on each round.
PLAY ALONG: www.geoguessr....
BEST WAY TO PLAY: Before you watch the video, play the first round and make your selection. As soon as you make your selection quickly switch over to the UA-cam tab before the time runs out and watch me play the first round. That way you don't spoil the surprise element of the video. When you reopen the Geoguessr tab the you will see how our guesses compare. Good luck!

GW: Is that actually Germany? Yeah, it is!
Narrator: It wasn't
Fun fact: Schaffhausen was bombed in the second world war because the Americans believed it's Germany.
I read that in Ron Howard’s voice (ie Arrested Development)
Define Germany
Hey Tom, a tip for future Rio rounds: Sugar Loaf = Pão de Açúcar 👍
3:04 Schaffhausen is Switzerland, but Büsingen am Hochrhein is a german exclave and is located right next to it.
No one asked
"Where is Sugarloaf?"
Zooms directly to Pão de açucar
If only he had some basics in portuguese or even spanish, açucar/azucar is basic vocab
@@a2rhombus2 You don't even need to know that, just realise the connection between açucar and sugar.
@@neonwired4978 Yeah, he was looking to the two brothers hills
A to Rhombus I love when people get mad at him for not knowing every language on earth
And Lagoa means lake
These streams are really addictive, as most of your content is!
I could watch this man talk to a wall for hours
Crabsticks
“PLAY ALONG”
Me every round: where the hell is this?
Every round except the danish/swedish bridge one basically
@@AzulaOTP 1 and 5 were makeable because of rio and basel, 3 was easy, 2 and 4 were insane
Why am I so addicted to watching these
3:04 ooh you just triggered a lot of Swiss people there Tom, Schaffhausen is in Switzerland :)
It's fine though, the borders in that region are so complicated you often find yourself crossing the border over 2 times within minutes by train.
No one asked
Nice guess on the Øresund Bridge there! It's so cool to see a place you instantly recognize in this game (and then a little disappointing when you see someone who's never been there annihilate the round anyway).
Yes! I instantly knew where it was too
I knew because of the TV show :D
But he said he was in sweden. That island is peberholm and its still in denmark.
Very nice Tom! The Corpus Christi location is one of the harder ones in GeoDetective I think. Glad you're enjoying the map
1. First round: Guessed in Konstanz (Kreuzlingen), misunderstood the sign cause I thought it was pointing to Kreuzlingen city centre. Still, not far off given it was in both cases a guess on the Rhine River. 4858 points.
2. Choose Northern Macedonia. A real shame, it was because one of the letters looked like a theta so I thought it must be a Greek border crossing. Greek looking letter + Cyrillic got me into thinking it could be Northern Macedonia. I thought Russia at first thought. There were some obvious clues that suggested it couldn't be Northern Macedonia (the climate, the degree of worn-downness etc.). 239 points.
3. Obviously USA. Thought it looked like Florida so I went there looking for Padre Island but didn't find it. Turned out to be Texas, oh well. 1579 points.
4. Denmark, E20, near Copenhagen airport but I chose the wrong side (west of the airport instead of east of it). 4954 points.
5. Looked like Rio de Janeiro but I couldn't find the exact spot. Didn't know the city had a lake inside of it. 4958 points.
Total: 16588 points
I actually drove over that bridge in Schaffhausen on my way to Italy back in 2018. That‘s so weird seeing a place I have been to in your vids
I'm from Texas but you still beat me with the Padre Island round *shakes fist in air* Though I finally got closer to you just by 4 kilometers on the Rio round. I found Geoguessr through your channel a few weeks ago, been playing with your videos the past couple days, having a lot of fun and learning quite a bit, thanks!
This map is really great for play-along, I feel like I actually learned something on how I could improve by listening to your reasoning. Also interesting to come to similar results from totally different angles, I saw Portuguese plus got a strong Rio vibe from the mountains without fully recognizing/naming Sugar Loaf, my score was similar to yours but in the opposite direction, a little farther out from the city centre.
Am I the only one who has incorporated "Get in!" into their regular vocabulary
You scrolled right past Lagoa and Jardim Botanico in bold which are actually the name of the neighborhoods.
I love these videos! I find myself screaming at the TV when I see something that Tom doesn't, like Pão de Açucar 😂
"we have the red here so it's Kyrgystan!"
Mate, of course! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dude you didn't say no moving until 3 locations into the video. Of course, I still got crushed minus the 4,999 points on Corpus Christi. Clocked in at 15k. Love these play alongs, so much fun!
Man that place in Rio looks stunning, honestly one of the coolest places I've ever seen.
Round 1: 41km off (I was in Kreuzlingen which was on the sign but not the town we were in. *Sad Alphorn noises*)
Round 2: Saw the red on the licenses and the flatness and scrolled to the right border crossing immediately. Still dropped a point though, thought I was directly on the border, while in fact being some 200m away.
Round 3: Big Pooper in Round 3, because of the palms and the Spanish island name I thought we were in Puerto Rico. Even found a military thing there. 450 points only.
Round 4: My judging skills are very poor, dropped 2 points even though I instantly found out where I was.
Round 5: Instantly thought these mountains looked Rio and there was Portuguese. I then found the part of the city the hospital was named after and from there it was easy. Only 5.000 but 30sec left
I really appreciate the play alongs and the Geo Detective map is great. I’m currently sitting in my basement, sick, and you provided half an hour of good distraction. Thanks so much mate!
Aweaome knowledge, nice calming relaxed voice added to that! Great stuff!!
You were trying to find "Pão de Açúcar" in Rio
You could almost make out Cristo Redentor in the clouds on top of that “epic mountain”
Geowizard always:
A lot of you would have got this right.....NOBODY would have got it
The first one is near Rhine falls, and it is in Switzerland. I was there a few years ago. The first time I could recognise a place on your videos, I almost jumped on my bed!
Sugar loaf mountain (never heard someone calling it by the english name before) is Pão de Açúcar
This guys voice and good vibes is the reason I keep watching these vids
That was pretty damn good "ive gone and buggered it up" meanwhile like 10k away still near perfect scores lol
That was a fun game! Wasn't able to match you Tom but still enjoyed it.
1. Had the same thought process as you but I didn't find the right village along the river, 41 km off.
2. I think I've had this location before, I remembered it was the border of Kyrgystan and Kazachstan but not where of course. Didn't find it exactly again but 13 km off, beat you on that one!
3. I completely bombed this round, first I was thinking Florida but that couldn't be it, really didn't know what to think and ended up going San Juan, Puerto Rico because of the Spanish influence (Padre island), but that was completely insane of course, really poor guess. The area around Corpus christi didn't come to mind at all, so fair play to you Tom. 3357 km.
4. Immediately thought of the correct bridge and then started doubting myself that I was on the wrong bridge again, ended up spending my time on that instead of getting a perfect score. 860 m.
5. Figured out we were in Rio but I also didn't consider that we were at a lake, 10 km off, so I guess I beat you there as well.
Good game to you, I'm awaiting the next one!
I live in the very first location, the town of Schaffhausen in Switzerland. As I discovered your channel only two weeks ago I was stunned to see a place that familiar. We use to jump into the Rhine from those two bridges in summer. You mentioned it was a German town as one might suggest it being north of the Rhine river. It is a Swiss town though, even a whole Canton (kind of a state) called Schaffhausen like the town itself north of the Rhine. In 1945the Allies bombed Schaffhausen by mistake, killing 40 people as it was north of the Rhine. Love your videos Tom, keep up the great work 👍🏼
I'm originally from Flurlingen and when I saw the thumbnail with the bridge I couldn't believe it 😅
@GeoWizard, when is the straight line to Norway series going up?
End of september I think he said.
Funny, the first location you've been to is actually the bridge between the town (Schaffhausen) and the village I grew up in, quite close to our old house!
Ah Brazil... I used to live in Copacabana. You were actually looking at Dois Irmous (Two Brothers) near the Vidigal favela, not Sugar Loaf (Pao de açucar). The hill to the left (looking at the lake) is just a bit hill/favela right in between Lagoa and Copacabana. Bonus - I was mugged there. If you look up the street near the sign the massive mountain ahead of you is Christ the Redeemer.
6:02 “a lot of you would have got that one”. Somehow I doubt that.
Schafhausen is still in switzerland bro
Schaffhausen is in switzerland
Sicher? Appa nit
GeoWizard in Switzerland: "Is this Interlaken?"
It's never l̶u̶p̶u̶s̶ Interlaken.
13,846 total with two perfect scores. Denmark/Sweden and the Swiss rounds were easy to get. I had no clue on the location of Padre Island and clicked Miami. The Kygyzstan round I clicked on the Greek/Turkish border as I thought I saw cyrillic, greek and latin alphabets, thinking the van with the red on the plate was from Albania. I at least got Brazil, although the complete wrong city.
“We can’t be there because....... because, no.
Got one perfect, two near perfect and two abysmal scores. I guessed Singapore for the Texas one and Russia-Belarus border for Kyrgyzstan :D
I know I suggested the time limit on the previous GeoDetective video, but it seems to make me panic a bit.
3:40 I have been to that border crossing and didn't immediately recognise that I was there.
23551, bloody happy with that! I ended up on the wrong side of Kazakshtan, but still got 4000+ points, so not too shabby.
3:00 according to the map it was right next to the border but still in Zürich (in Flurlinger). And even if it was in Schaffausen, it's still Switzerland, not Germany :P
14:06 Sugarloaf is that light green peninsula you see that’s close to the top right. In Portuguese it’s Pão de Açucar
Thanks for a great video!
I was a bit lucky, got 24,914 in total. A couple of places I recognized, for instance Shaffhausen where I've visited a friend and the bridge between Denmark and Sweden which I've gone over several times as I'm a Swede and have lived in that region. Kyrgyzstan was lucky, just saw a boarder that looked fairly similar which happend to be the right one, but was a few hundred meters off. In Corpus Christi I landed on the exact same place as you. The last one was most lucky since I didn't have a clue which city I was in, but felt Rio was the best choice so went for it. 16km off but still gave me a good score.
Great content, keep it up!
Funny how Interlaken is that famous outside of Switzerland. In Switzerland itself you almost never hear something of Interlaken haha..and not many swiss people like Interlaken, too much tourism
True, wohne in neuhausen nähe schaffhausen. Jetzt kann ich in ruhe sterben xD
The place between Denmark and Sweden are the artificial island Peberholm. Called that because of the nearby island Saltholm. Salt and Pepper 🤣
13:41, Sugar Loaf is "Pão de Açucar", kind of in between your guess and the correct location.
You hovered over Sugarloaf a few times. It's on the peninsula on the southwest side of the bay: "Pão de Açucar" = "bread of sugar" or "sugar loaf"
It says "Schaffhausen" on the dial of IWC watches - that's how I knew it is Switzerland
Everyone is good thx. Eagerly awaiting the Straight Line Across Norway video too.
Everyone talking about Sugar Loaf (Pão de Açúcar), but that mountain is not Sugar Loaf. It's actually Morro Dois Irmãos.
Me: Hell nah im Living in Neuhausen am Rheinfall, now i can die lmao. Schaffhausen is in switzerland
Rheinfall ist wunderschön! That place made an everlasting impression on me when my family spent August 1st there when I was six.
Yeah, ich wohn z'Herblinge. Ha dä Tom vor zwei Wuche entdeckt 🤙🏼 Mega geil, eifach d'Flurlingerbrugg
I can’t believe Corpus Christi was in this vid. I was born and raised here. Super cool to see it. Keep up the great vids man.
Same man, he got dropped like less than a mile from where I work.
I made the exact same mistakes as you but you were just a touch closer on every round. Well played!
I got crazy in the last round man that´s my city, got a perfect score there
Hey what about trying to go down a river like the Rhine or Danube all by kayak or boat? Sounds like it could be fun idk
When I played, I also thought it was Sugarloaf and was very confused by the compass pointing at SW. But it is actually another place called "Morro 2 Irmãos"
No moving was not said until halfway into the video so just prefacing this with the fact that I moved around in the first two rounds:
1. Was trying for ages to figure out where Kreuzlingen was, at the end moved around a bit and saw the '4' on a sign, went to the 4 close to the Rhein and got close enough, though more luck than skill. 4986 points.
2. Moving around here only confused me, because nearby was a sign with near all the flags of the countries in the former Soviet Union. Guessed a border with Kazachstan and Russia, couldn't find any with a river (turns out it wasn't even a river anyways). 1136 points.
3. Everything screamed Florida to me, and the sign had something called C.C. Army Depot on it, found Cape Coral in Florida and thought that was good enough and picked some random intersection. Bad luck. 1661 points.
4. Pretty straightforward, only thing that wasn't as easy was guessing where on the road we were exactly, and in the end I was 170 meters off. 4999 points.
5. The police car told me it was Rio, but I thought we were in the bay rather than along the lake. 4925 points.
Total: 17707 points, definitely could have been better, but not too bad either.
How did I miss the pickup with Rio on the side
Damn! The last one, in Rio, is the street I was born in!
1. pretty easy... neuhausen am Rhf. Rhf is Rheinfall near Schaffhausen (i knew that)
2. saw the different cyrillic languages. didnt know what to do with it.
3. repeat. i think this was my very first round in geodetective and i got 5k on it. for some reason i knew where padre island was
4. 4999 :(
5. exactly the same thougt process as you. i knew where pao de acucar is, but that wasnt helpful because what you could see was only another mountain. that was the reason i failed.
I've been to that Kgyrz border, it's the main way to get from Almaty into Bishkek. (Two big cities)
That was still switzerland
Had 3 good rounds with over 4000 points, 2 really bad (especially the US one, I thought Australia for some reason). But for Rio I was really proud I was better than him, almost perfect store (4997 points). I went directly for Copacabana and just looked for the hospital. Actually, I watched a series based in Rio, which really helps me recognizing it.
Never knew there was other mountains called “Sugarloaf”.
Hardly thought you could be getting Rio mixed up with the Wicklow mountains...
Rian Young I remember reading many eons ago in a dusty newspaper trivia quiz that "sugarloaf" is the most common name for a mountain or hill throughout the globe. There are thousands of them apparently.
vegancam wow that’s really interesting haha. I’ll definitely have a google and check it out. Cheers for the info.
As a viewer from Schaffhausen I am a bit disappointed that you said its Germany, but we were also bombed in the second world war because the allies thought its germany so I guess its alright.
I find this entertaining and relaxing to watch.
12:32 Lagoa at the far left of the map. I just copped it as you were looking...so close.
I like these play alongs. I couldn't find no moving in the title or description so I wasn't sure about the no moving in the beginning, I moved on round 2 and found the Flag of Kyrgyzstan...
90% of comments: sugar loaf is pao de açucar
Me: Oof
Geo: I need to learn my portugese
This Picture is my Hometown. SCHAFFHAUSEN.😍
Greetings from Basel :D
You were so lucky on the corpus christi in the distance there was a chile flag and i got distracted by it
I feel like you've had that first location before. It seemed very familiar to me.
I didn't do that great (~20,000 total) but I had an insane guess on the Kyrgyzstan round. I didn't notice the license plate but spotted a red rectangle in the distance with a light circular shape on it that I thought MIGHT have been the flag of Kyrgyzstan. By that point I had about 10 seconds left, didn't bother looking for a river, didn't even have time to zoom in, just assumed there had to be a border crossing near Bishkek and clicked on a big highway leading to Kazakhstan. Would have had a perfect score if I'd zoomed in, but clicked slightly off the road and got 4,998.
Nailed it. I really like this channel
i have made a no moving map called Coaster Spottr based around theme parks around the world, you see a roller coaster in the distance and have to find the park round the USA and europe, some rounds are eaasyy some are definitely not. for anyone who is both a geography and coaster nerd like me.
The word for sugar is similar in many languages, acucar, sugar, cukier etc.
Mission across Norway any time soon?!? Really excited for this!
I'm so excited for the norway videos
never thought i'd see my city on here haha
Does anyone know when his next straight line mission is coming out? Nothing against these videos they’re great!
He said late October
"Pão de Açúcar is Sugar Loaf"
very nice that your videos are in 1080p now
Öresundsbron! First time I've actually known exactly where I am playing Geoguessr.
playing UK maps to get denmark right?! i did not get that one but i would have guessed the exact same spot cause i have been there ^^
What's insane is I cant do what you do WITH google and a general ability to search and tab screens like a boss. You do it without any meta data. HOW.
Where is the sugar loaf? He says as he zooms right on top of it
Rivers flow out of mountains into seas not the other way around
I was in the wrong town in Switzerland and I guessed California instead of Texas which lost me a ton of points but other than that I did really well with 3x 5000 pts for a total of just under 21000
Im pretty sure that wasnt sugarloaf mountain. The real one was too your east I think
Wow that short distance is 7km in reality? Crazy.
Hello Tom!
Great video as always, have you seen the City guesser game?
Can you try and walk across wales again please
8:14 holy shit I beat you by 1 point on this one (4.973), so lucky
2:47 Schaffhausen Family guy lol
He said Jacksonville isn’t by the beach, tell that to my 10 minute drive to it 😂
Hey mate! Schaffhausen is in Switzerland
