    This guy has attempted to walk across a country in a completley straight line so many times and has failed. If he was the sort of guy to cheat in a game he would've found a way to cheat at those things too. Wayyyyyyyyy more time consuming, dangerous, etc. He'll literally crawl through brambles to maintain a straight line rather than go 10m to the left and walk around.

      Yeah, I think for personal playing it's fine to do that as long as you aren't claiming otherwise. I do the same if it is taking awhile and often it sort of helps me learn areas because I then have to zoom in myself and look around the area compared to just being told at the end where it was after I guessed really wrong when I'm not likely to then really see the area as much. I wouldn't do that on a play along or battle royale though.

      For me it isn't cheating. Your target is to find a place where you were landed. For me it is a kind of challenge of looking for characteristic names, streets or places and then investigate them on the web. It is a part of the game.

    • @arstulex
      @arstulex 2 роки тому +15

      @@wiadp1 It's not really a part of the game though, it's literally the opposite of that.
      If you're opening up another window or tab to get extra 'meta' information then you are cheating as it's not the intended way to play. There's a reason they don't provide the facility to do that within the game itself.
      Saying that's not cheating would be like me saying using an external chess solving engine to help beat an AI at chess isn't cheating.
      Not saying you shouldn't do it (since you're not really hurting anyone) but it is definitely and objectively cheating.

    You can memorize bollards, google cars, phone numbers, road signs, license plates, road markings, and many other stuff that you can actually study.

    Actually, China has some 3D photos on Google Maps but not street images on StreetView. Germany is not entirely covered by StreetView, only the big towns are (Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Cologne, Hamburg and so on).
    Fun fact: Google Maps streets in China don't overlay the actual ones and that is made on purpose.

    Tom is clearly cheating in Geoguessr. It's so obvious that he is secretly using his geographical intellect and knowledge to pinpoint a relatively good guess most of the time. It's a shame, really.

    Lesotho was also a cool round of geoguesser

    A friend of mine used to differentiate between different South American countries by the backside of their road signs. Is it cross shaped, is it wooden or steel, etc. Couldn't cover all countries that way, but he could cross out a few. (Except for Chile, no one can account for Chile)

    A simple way to avoid any cheating is to simply share the PICTURE. Take a screenshot and share that one. No code to look, no link to open, nothing.
    Who host the challenge is the only person having a link; all players just have a picture and must click somewhere in the map.
