I'm suuuuper late but I will say that Quarter Horses are good in the sense that they tend to be pretty fearless and have an amazing work ethic. However, they also can be really hard headed sometimes and are not fun to try to fight with. That doesn't go for all of them, but as a general rule it is true. Imho, the older ones make some of the best kid and husband horses out there.
When my old trainer started her own barn, she bought a bunch of 15 year old quarter horses who were just pasture pets, and trained them to be kid safe for lessons.. They really are great kid/husband horses lmao
Her - quarter horse are really level minded The quarter horse I ride named Danny - is a gelding but is a mare and a stallion at the same time is that possible?
Keep it up! You are so amazing. I love all of your videos. The comedy gets me through hard times. I know you made this video a long time ago. But you are so kind and love animals, I would totally be your barn friend in another life.😆
I did some calculations on horse owning for myself.....mine was little bit more expensive as I would have to board my future horse....there are two options of boarding where I live, including the monthly cost for the essentials of horse owning: Place #1 would cost me $8 984 per year Place #2 would cost me $4 563 per year Horse owning costs are different for everyone!😆🙃🐎
And a big tip to look pretty riding is move with the horse, shoulders back, relax, hand not on their neck, and look up those are just the basics but they help LOTS hope this helped😁
Wow I’m super happy u answered my question and put it in the thumbnail! Also I also like county saddle pads! There’s ONE at my barn and when I got to camp I always just like claim it
If you want to look good when riding, I'd recommend checking out Sylvia's Locke's books. In classical riding, which is what she promotes, you have to sit tall and "look good," in order to work with the horse and aid it. "Looking good," almost comes as like, a default.
Also I used to ride a mare arabian paint cross (she was paint colors but looked like an Arabian) she was 15.3 hh, also the type of appaloosa that you like is called a leopard appaloosa!
Have you ever heard of Last Chance Corral? It’s a nurse mare foal rescue in Ohio. The trainer at my college as rescued two foals from there a few years ago.
With the I don’t use negative really buttttttt if my horse doesn’t do what I want him to do I’m going to ask him harsher not hurting him at all just squeezing harder and doing a small kick! But I don’t I consider that a negative reinforcement. What I consider negative reinforcement is whipping hard or yanking on there head. What do you consider negative reinforcement?
Negative Reinforcement: The release from pressure or discomfort, the ending of something aversive, becomes the reward. For example, we apply pressure to the horse's sides with our legs, the horse moves forward, and we ease the pressure. Positive reinforcement is rewarding the right behavior. So like you want your horse to go forward and then they do so you give them a treat or something. I think people think negative reinforcement is the same as being harsh because of the name “negative.” but if you’re being harsh it’s abuse not negative reinforcement. That’s my opinion! I personally like negative reinforcement best
I think your channel is HUGE! You have approx 10 times as many subscribers as me, and I've been doing youtube the same amount of years... I ride a "dalmation" horse, a Knabstrupper mare. Knabstruppers are a danish breed, and the majority of them are spotted.
Can you tell us more about why you love Kazi's spookiness? I have sort of a young/green horse that is sometimes reactive, and it makes me nervous and is annoying even though I am an experienced rider and can ride through it. I was thinking if you told me what you liked about the spookiness (other than that it keeps your engaged and focused), it might give me a new perspective :-)
I guess it makes me feel good because I think “not just anyone could jump on my horse and ride.” It’s also challenging to stay on and also not let my self get frustrated that she spooked at the same log AGAIN (😂) so I feel like keeping my cool was such a huge thing I overcame. Kazi isn’t dangerous she’s just spooky so she’s never intending to throw me off or anything. If I had was riding a mean horse that wanted me off all the time, that might be different!
Why you hating on western? We are just as good riders as english and just as in tune with our horses. And suggestion: get an english horse that is big enough to wear a western saddle so you can jump when you want or ride in a western saddle for trails if you want.
I’m not at all hating on western riders. I’m taking western lessons and I said it’s a lot more fun but my dressage lessons are a million times harder. It doesn’t make one better than the other. They are just different. Also English saddles are made so you can feel the horse underneath you which is why they are a lot smaller. So generally when you learn to ride English there’s a lot more “feel” of the horse going into it. I don’t hate western at all! I’m sorry if I made it sound that way! 🙏🏻💕
Allison, I'm not speaking for Gypsy Equestrian here but I do live in an area with a lot of Western and English riders both and I work with a rescue here. We rarely get abused or neglected horses from English owners (except retired racehorses, but that's a whole other thing), and in my experience that is mostly true across the nation. BUT not all Western riders are abusive, most likely, not even the majority of them are, just some are. I believe that this is because most people who get involved in English riding take lessons at a barn with a trainer before owning their own horse, so they learn the basics. It seems a lot of Western riders, especially in poorer areas such as my own, assume that they can just buy a horse and not need to take care of the horse properly or take any riding lessons. A lot of Western riders do take great care of their ponies, though.
I know I'm late but I feel you. So many people who start English don't understand our type of connection with the horses. English people are so used to the parent-child relationship with the horse in English riding that they don't understand the close best-friend/partners in crime relationship that comes with western riding, which is as close, but different. English is more "trust me to make good decisions for us" while western is "trust me, it may be hard but it'll be fun as hell" lol. English riders also seem to default Western riders to just barrel racers. So a lot of our other sports get discredited. When I started taking English lessons, it blew everyone away to find out I rode for western drill teams and trail clubs instead of running barrels. Most of them still don't know how hard it is to work and feel and trust your horse and have them truly trust you while there's 50 other horses and riders flying around you. I get a lot of back-handed remarks from English riders about my relationship with my horse too, it sucks for me, but he and I have a great time.
Ima little late but like, quarter horses are chill but the are boring and have little to no personality. But if you like chill quarter horses 100%. I love my Arabian thooooooo. He’s SpIcY
Arabians do come in 16 hh painted coloring I ride at a big Arabian breeding barn and we have 16 Hh pinto colored Arabians gurl they come in every color😂😂
Those are Pintabians! Which have 99% Arabian blood when they are bred “properly.” And Im totally down to get a pintabian. But true Arabs don’t come painted unfortunately!
Yes they would be a half Arab but their is no way to tell they ledger look the same I can dm you on Instagram the name of my barn and you can check it out they ship horses every where and they also have lots of connections so they could probably find you what you want
The REAL question that NEEDS to be asked and answered is: How many times did I say "100%" ... 🙄😂 I personally would like to know 😂😂😂
I could be wrong but I think you said 100% only 6 or 7 times
Happy birthday bro!
Oh really? When I was editing it it sounded like 1 million times 😂 I was so annoyed with myself
@Katherine Ivanov HOW EXCITING! Congrats!! Did you name her after the movie?
Arabians are the best horse i have a gelding Arabian

Sounds like a quarter horse I would like! 😂

You could get a “pintabian”! It’s a half paint and half Arabian. Paints are tall horses, sometimes over 16hh so maybe you could get your dream horse!!
My friend has one
Noooooooo way!!!!! I’m going to look into that right now! Aaaahhhh you’ve got me all excited
Oh my goooooodness. I look them up. They are exactly what I am looking for!!!! I’m so glad you said something!
@@GypsyEquestrian that’s great! Glad I could help!!

Aww, you answered my question! That's such a sweet memory, I think if I did that with my horse it'd probably be my favorite too.
I love bays too. And spunky mares
You can definitely find Half Arabian horses that are the paint coloring that can be quite tall too.
I know I'm 9 months late but what are you thoughts on gaited horses? ( Tennessee walking horses, Missouri fox trotters, Kentucky mountain?
Also I used to ride a mare arabian paint cross (she was paint colors but looked like an Arabian) she was 15.3 hh, also the type of appaloosa that you like is called a leopard appaloosa!

Love the mix of breeds you like😄👍
How do you have time for Kazi, Zurreal, making videos, editing videos, a dog, any other pets you have AND other normal stuff?!??!
