A documentary by a Slabber for Slabbers, capturing the real year round residents in their natural habitat speaking frankly about what it's like, what it means to them, and what it can mean to you.
Moving to Slab City permanently might not be for most folks, but this off-grid wasteland squatter frontier is so much more than a physical location, it's the embodiment of American ideals in the midst of a strained modern society.

@@skipwhiley9860 You just proved Kits point by your confused response.
Prescription drugs do serve a purpose in our society, don’t get me wrong.
However, our societies all over the world are WAY over prescribed. Doctors prescribe drugs like their tic tacks, instead of getting to the root cause of symptoms and fixing them, they apply a band-aid type approach that in my educated opinion 90% of circumstances don’t require prescription medication.
Research some of the blue zones in the world, or the uncontacted tribes.
Therapy WITH prescription drugs is more often than not the WRONG approach. However we’re conditioned from a very young age to believe if we’re broken, unwell, in pain, have mental challenges then we must need prescription medication right, no wrong. So so wrong.

My husband has had multiple strokes. The best treatment for strokes is self-sufficiency. Of course you need the help of friends or family through that initially, but it sounds like Cherry made a hell of a recovery and I'd say it's because she's living life and doing her thing instead of sitting around being "helped." Kudos to her!

Alot of people are calling these people failures who could not function in "normal" society. Maybe the second part is true, but I don't think that these people are failures. Who are we to judge someone else's life? We all think of success in life today as money, clothes, cars. But I can see in this video that these people are happy with how they live, they don't have fancy things or tons of money, but you don't need that to be happy. I think this video is great because it shows how you only need simple things to be happy, and ultimately, if your life is happy, your life is a success.

A lot of comments about the way they look and live. In the past I would be saying these things too. As I grow older I realize how society is like a bunch of robots programmed to get up, go to work at a job that most don't even like, to make monthly payments on a house for 30 YEARS!!! Let that sink in for a moment! So, you're 25, buy a house for $150,000 on a 30 year note. It becomes yours when YOU ARE 55!!! Then on top of that you paid, what, $300,000 for the house you thought you were paying $150,000 for (Don't know the exact math but you get the idea). Then on top of that you pay monthly payments for 48-60 months on a $25,000 car that in the end will cost you $35,000 (again math) to take you back and forth to the job you hate so you can pay $300,000 for that $150,000 house. Yet on top of that many will make monthly payments for furniture, electronics, etc. paying double for those items also. And don't forget the 100s-1000s of $$$ in rent, a.k.a. property tax, you pay yearly to keep that house and all the maintenance and repairs that go along with it. For those who say people who live like this are crazy or stupid or not responsible, maybe it is you who is crazy and stupid for letting yourself become a slave. Before you say they aren't responsible. Where is there any responsibility in paying double for things you can't even afford in the first place?

But you gain the benefits of living in a first world country. Now whether those benefits are significant enough for you/what you even want is up to you, but you could always move to either Slab City or a third world country, which is totally fine. Everyone has different preferences. I will say though, living in a third world country is far harsher than anyone who hasn’t experienced it realizes.

floridaboy34601 I agree!!! right on!!! You get it! Many don’t. And they still pay sales tax and all the taxes on gas, provisions, etc. This is how it was in the beginning and before we were slaves to alarm clocks and the IRS and finance companies. I’d rather pay with Indian money that you have to find, or gold than to be a slave to the green paper that makes governments “rich” and makes “wealthy” people powerful

floridaboy34601 To each their own. Some people enjoy working, I do. I always like my jobs and don't mind buying things on credit. Money isn't that important , but I like having a home & vehicle. I want to set down roots, have a permanent home, have children, and pass my house down to my children. You're only a "slave" if you want to be, but I'm just living life the way I want too. No matter what you do in life, you can't just take. You have to give. Wether it's by working like farming, making clothes, cooking, etc you have to do something in order to get.

I love how people are saying such bad things when people all around the world live with even less than these people. The house with the children looked clean and shaded, and the kids seemed healthy and happy. What's the big deal? Living outside the norm doesn't mean her kids are not taken care of. As for drugs, can you say for sure your neighbor isn't doing them behind closed doors? Or that you can trust so and so down the road. I know I can't say for sure. These people seem nice and even though it's not for me I like that they are successful.

It is very rare to find a community where folks are truly free, to the point where once can follow the CRASS ethos of "be who want want to be, do what you want to do..." but this one is certainly one of the best I've ever seen.
There is an area by me called Wholand that is also kind of a community unto itself, but not on this level.....
I'd love to someday make it out to Slab City... so beautiful are these people here.
    Well done !!
This video gives me great hope for humanity.....

@ scpc ghost , where to start , i can do light duty work for about 3 to 4 hrs a day three days a week and am on disability , why has the system not found me some sort of employment that i can do so that i can be self sufficient , one reason , they basically cannot find a job for me with those hrs and days that would actually pay me enough to survive ..some people actually cannot work the hrs required to actually make it worth while .. even at 30 dollars per hr time 3 days per week i still would make more on disability , way more ..

scpc ghost , i would move there if i were not disabled , i might not be able to live like that due to my disability , i do not have the bawls to go up to people and ask for money or some sort of donations only to get turned down 50 times in a day .. i would go and live on a reservation except i am white and might not be welcomed to live there .. and not only that , reservations are changing , even those people are getting money hungry and show off the items they have , i need to be around people that can enjoy the simple things that life has to offer , like growing your own food , hunting , ect ect ,,

My only issue, is the number of "slabbers" condemning those who choose to live the "enslaved" lifestyle. Yet they themselves collect social security or financial benefits which are all in turn paid for by the people they condemn.
Yeah I sure would love to move out into the country scavenge my materials not pay any taxes or any monies for the service or property I require. Beg and 'ask nicely' for money when I want drugs or alcohol.
But I won't, because unlike some I work for myself work for what I want and I'm not required to beg from those who work for their money.
Self sufficiency is a farce, none of you are.

And suddenly one day, your old, and you lived, bought and accumulated all that stuff and for what? Are you going to take it with you?? Awesome vid. I love the honesty and the strength. It's far from easy to survive & thrive n the desert. 110 degree days/months r no bullshit. High five for posting this. Thank u, I enjoyed watching it. If I come visit, I will bring down a packed ice chest of cold beers. 🍻
