    This video came across my UA-cam suggestions. You will not believe my surprise when I see that my brother who passed away two years ago is one of the people interviewed for this documentary and I had no clue about it and none of our family has ever seen it. I'm literally just watching it and BOOM there's my big brother. RIP Dustin. I love you and miss you so much bro. I'm blown away right now.

    As an addict in recovery, I can relate to these people. It was me for a long time. It's very easy to judge these people who are either using drugs, alcohol or mentally disturbed . But we need to look at the root causes their childhoods and the systems that failed them. These people were bright eyed children at one point, and had dreams of becoming a doctors, policeman or athlete. The systems like DCF , education, Mental health services, Foster care failed these children and now they pay the price. So many children are abused , suffer unspeakable traumas and end up on the streets. Next time you see someone living rough, instead of looking away like they are invisible, buy them a sandwich or start a polite conversation. Your kindness can be an awakening for change.

    • @danielcraft3727
      @danielcraft3727 Рік тому

      Sad how America turns its back on those in need using their use of drugs and alcohol and they get what they deserve. Used and abused by the system and 5013c not for profits that bring in billions of dollars for those in need and those in need lucky to get a fifty dollar Walmart gift card. While the non profits and public authorities cruising around in Cadillacs living the life of fine wine and dining shop till you drop, going to hell in a hand basket blow a thousand dollars in a heart beat but not a dollar for those in need. Prisons and institutions big big business. Some of my friends survived their addictions some didn't. Child abuse, physical or mental it is well known the top reason for so called mental illness that's justified sadness for what they have been through fed all the drugs you could possibly want but good luck with food water shelter clothing and basic needs. Be a cold day in Hades before the government and non profits from the federal to local provide that. Shameful 81% of Americans in Gallup Poll say they believe in God and turn the other cheek to those suffering. Nobodies a nobody, inner child still exist deep down somewhere and love the child and not ones own ego.

    Many documentaries get so intrusive, as some central voice seems to guide the conversation and the topic, leading the viewer to the desired conclusion. I love how this documentary does the opposite of that, just letting the subjects tell their own stories. The result is honest, frank, uncompromising even, but open-ended and ripe for interpretation. Really well done. This is impressive filmmaking and I enjoyed watching it to bring in 2023.

      Michelle Cash welcome to the south. I’m from Louisiana and you can’t walk 2 miles without hearing these dumbass sob stories. Some are true, most are fake. If you ever go to New Orleans and if anyone ever asks you “I bet I know where you got them shoes” They will stay on bourbon street mostly for tourists but they ask you the same question anywhere. You’ll answer “finish line” or “footlocker” and they will answer the question and saying, “no.... they’re on bourbon street, that’s where you got dem shoes right now” And demand you to pay... if you don’t... may god have mercy on your soul. My father was walking down palmetto and didn’t answer, since he’s from norco Louisiana. 3 black guys jumped him, took all his stuff/money, and left him for dead. Thank god he only got beaten instead of shot. I sure as hell wouldn’t be here considering that was the 1970s and I was born in the 1990s. Don’t believe me? It’s gotten worse sense. Even nfl players are being gunned down and killed for absolute nonsense. Just don’t go anywhere nearby the lower 9th.

Every one of these people have a lifetime of memories and experiences that started out similar to everyone else, but complacency, bad choices, terrible circumstances, being naive, addiction, curiosity, mental illness and other combinations of life led them to the point in time they found themselves in front of the camera. This isn't just a documentary it's a display of life on earth no one wants to acknowledge.

      I whole-heartedly agree with the point you're making, but I think it's unfair to say that *every one* of the people in the video is there as a result of bad choices or whatever. The guy with his wife from Indiana seemed like they were living a happy little life. The Santa Claus guy and his friend had a big RV and a golf cart. The old dude with the surfboard and the "16-ounce arm curls" and the retired vet with the IDF shirt were "living the dream", even if they might not have a whole lot of material possessions.

      I escaped from Florida many years ago. This film, plus visits to family still living there, remind me of the ugly buildings, ugly landscape, the cultural vacuum, the heat, humidity, and general miserableness of the place.

    Reminds me of growing up in the gettho of Dayton, Ohio. We were dirt poor and my father and mother never drank or done any type of drug. We were just dirt poor but we had a roof over our heads, clean clothes, soap and water and heat. No air conditioning though and it gets nasty sticky, humid and hot in June, July and Aug and some of September. Some times we didn’t have a fan. But I made it through high school, went to college and made good money my entire life I worked hard.

    I live in Arkansas and I know how awkward it is to be around somebody like the first guy, especially when they're drunk. It's a really weird and different feeling because you're on edge but trying to keep your cool so nothing happens, I hate it. I think there's people like that all over the south but it's really uncomfortable when you're the one experiencing it. They're all the exact same way too lol

      @Xxuzumaki07 _ I disagree. They get drunk and unpredictably stupid and it's not fun to be around unless it's a close friend. Random drunk strangers here where I live in Arkansas could be friendly, pissy or trying to fight you, sometimes all within a few minutes. I just don't like being around drunk super southerners lol I think they act stupid. Obviously theres people that handle their alcohol and are fun to be around but for the random drunks/people like the first guy, not so much.

    I've lived here for 22 years, on the Gulf of Mexico. I'm from Philadelphia and I will tell you that I found a home here, that I never knew anywhere else. Life is slower. The sun goes down over the water, the birds, the colors, the plant life… Old Florida has its charm like nowhere else in the United States.
