I love this. I didn't know there was a video for this song.
I've often sadly thought that this song was a foreshadowing of Phil's career: He dominated the entertainment industry. Then quite unfairly, the press turned on him as if he were an untalented nobody. Then "nobody called for more."
Shame, because he is probably the most versatile and talented musician of the 20th century, and that's saying a lot.
❤ Phil!!!
it could have been - actually, in early 1980 before PG III was out, it may have been about pete! his 1st two discs were very weak. 2 good songs on the 1st and none on the 2nd.
despite much help from robert fripp.
But by III he was back on his game.
Phil did get so much heat. his pop output was too much for many lol, me too by the 90's for genesis.
but he is def in the top 10.

WOW,..............I never had a clue that Genesis EVER made an actual "video" for this song!!! LOVING it!!! :)
looks like they spent a boatload on it too...:)
me too, I just found this video...
Are they supposed to be streakers?
My favorite 80's Genesis tune. Never thought I'd get to see them perform this live, but they did last night in Cleveland! Amazing show.
The emotion is so wrought
Wow wtg😊💕
Oh, I would have been in pieces for that!!! 🥹💕
I would have loved to see this live. But we got Misunderstanding to bump this.
My new favorite genesis tune. It changes monthly the more I listen to them. Last month is was the whole selling England album. Duke is another amazing album. In my opinion one of their best. One of the albums I can listen through completely.
"Duke" is a great Genesis album, one of my favorites. Phil Collins really came into his own as a great vocal talent on this album. "Duchess" and "Turn it on Again" are my favorite tracks from the "Duke" album.
I hate myself that my first instinct was I read this in Patrick Bateman's voice.
Duke is my favourite Genesis album, though. I can listen to it cover to cover any day.
Hardcore fans can call it the beginning of the end all they like, but I see it as a perfect fusion of prog and pop; tying a neat bow on their progressive rock sound before going all in on synthpop for Abacab.
Heathhaze by Banks is my favorite.
Filmed in Liverpool Empire...I was there that night...🥰
Omg so cool!
this video is so good that my old Atari 2600 cartridges came out of the drawer for a while and started moving to this.. :-) I'm always overwhelmed by this magical track, considering it one of the 10 best tunes ever written. And this video is just... well, depicts that era of simplicity so perfectly. How can you not adore this? Magical early eighties for ever!!
And I love you for this comment. I'm a straight guy but hey..we are the gentle loving generation.
I like the spotlight when Phil says "stepped into the light."
You know, just in case you didn't know what a light was.
genesis is my favorite band. duchess is my favorite genesis song and I have been a die hard fan of all eras and solo careers for 40 years. i cant explain it. It just is.
The "Keep it Dark" clothes :)
Magister keep it darks album abacab was a year later so they probably saved the clothes for then
🤔
Never Knew That, Amazing Eyes You Got There
@@MusicMan9-5 Yeah. Poor musicians :D
Damn, now I want to watch Keep it Dark
This masterpiece of a song is about the band, of course. This is up there with Abacab, Mama and Fading Lights as one of my favorite late Genesis tracks.
Those are some great selects Brendan
I like this video. It really shows Phil’s natural acting ability.
Phil looks like Mike Rutherford in this video
Jocelynn West he does
Well, maybe like a mini Mike. Collins is 5'6 and Rutherford is 6'3. 😉
Still have my concert T-shirt from this tour...one of my favorite albums
For me,. arguably, the greatest post Gabriel Genesis track.
This must've cost tens of dollars to produce. Love it!
Lmao! 😂
Probably cost like 2,000$ back in the mid 70s
Dozens of dollars today if you adjust for inflation.
Hey, you can't rent a hall like that for under a couple hundred bucks.
And although they were friends, I doubt that they already had matching trenchcoats before this.
How can you produce a video for a song written in 1980 back in the mid 70s?
I was 15 when this album came out. I rushed to the record store to get the 8 track. Immediately Fell in love with almost every song. Now my favorites are the ones that never got air play.
I agree! Today most people only hear the “popular” songs and not necessarily the best songs
Director: "OK, Guys in this video, I want you to all dress as Private Detectives..." Group: "...OK, sounds good".
One of the best genesis albums
Underrated. A simply underrated gem in the Genesis catalogue
At the very beginning, an image of the Roland CR-78 Drum Machine, which was the foundation and underlying rhythm of this song. Why it has a piece of gaffer's tape covering the logo, well, that's a mystery. "Duke" was their best work, post Gabriel, and this was one of the centerpieces...fantastic in every way.
Copyright? Maybe also trying to obscure their music effect tricks from competition
A masterpiece of an album. The depth of emotion in this album is so under-appreciated. If you've ever been in a relationship that fell apart despite giving your all to make it work, you probably know exactly what I mean. My fav Genesis album because it nails the experience perfectly. From first hand experience, still raw, Phil's vocals convey it all so well. LONG LIVE GENESIS! God Bless You, Phil - hope you are doing well.
I absolutely LOVE this song. Brings back so many good memories. I almost didn't recognize Phil Collins. All that hair and hat. Lol Love this band!
Back in 80/81 I was in a band doing originals in pubs around Sydney. One day the singer suggested we add some covers to the gigs, so we all brought in a favourite track of the time to add to our setlist. I brought in Duchess, at the time it was my favourite track!
did the band do it?!
how did it go?
Ohhhh this sound... I have goosebumps EVERY TIME
A powerful tune, I dig it.
One off the best Genesis tunes. So great
Phil looks different in a beard, but in a good way.
Masterpiece of a song from one of their best albums. Duke rules.
What an absolute tune. The whole album is just brilliant.
The citizens of Toussaint should be pleased with such a wonderful tribute.
such an awesome tune!!!.. Its awesome to watch Nic nail the drums in this epic tune...
Loved this song, never knew there was a vid for it.
I was in Amsterdam to see them preform it live, it's so magical I'll never forget this ! Thanks guys 👍❤♾
Phil is totally unrecognizable with that beard 😮😮💗
Wait, there was an official music video of Duchess? How did I not know this all this time???
The CR-78 stole the whole video (along with Phil’s beard). It’s like a little tribute to the machine that would launch Phil into superstardom and Genesis into relevance in the 80’s. Their peers were not able to survive the punk revolution but Genesis and PC were just taking a bold new step. Here’s to the CR-78 (and the beard)!
I just adore Duke.
I know it gets less attention than Trick of the Tail and Selling England..., but this has always been my favorite album.
Those are my Top 3 Genesis albums. Duke belongs there!
Phil kinda looks like mike in some parts of this video.
Always in style!
Just amazing
So weird to hear just this song ripped out of the middle of the trilogy it belongs to.
To be fair the entire hexology that is the Duke Suite was ripped out into separate parts all across the album. Behind The Lines, Duchess, Guide Vocal, Turn It On Again, Duke's Travels, and Duke's End were all supposed to be one song before they chopped it up, and at that point you may as well chop Duchess out of there to get its own appreciation. It is a damn great song.
And the whole beautiful atmospheric intro... gutted like a sea bass.
I love this song! 😊😊
The fist time ever listening to this band was this album. This is my all time favorite album from them.
what a song !!
I was a 18 year old when I first heard this song. Mind blowing as sunk a few beers in a bar in Leeds. I think I was crying out to be repatriated to be with Slavs.
Genesis is so cool. Rolling with the times - this the best song!
Adorable!!!!
Awesome
Loving you
Eres lo más bonito que me ha pasado en mi corazon
I love Genesis
Classic!
My favorite genesis song 😊
Oh lord this was such a great song!!!
I would love to do a remake of this.
Genial, sus letras como siempre, con mensaje 👌👍😘
Great song.
Miss listening to Duke on vinyl.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Touches my emotions
Love GENESIS ❤
43 years ago this masterpiece! Unbelievable!
From the second voice to an icon. Who knew? ❤
Adoro esse álbum
Cool song.
Beautiful Song! Genial Video! Bravo, Genesis!
In the earliest days of Genesis II the "ghost" of Peter Gabriel was very much around.
Who came up with this video concept? Dewey, the janitor? Lol - love this track!
How Phil took a very painful time in his life and turned it into this beautiful record is beyond my understanding.
5 de mayo 2019 . Éste tema es mágico épico y emotivo . A mi juicio es el tema de mi historia con Génesis. Su clima es envolvente. Gracias por subirlo y gracias x siempre encontrar en él algo distinto
This is legitimate talent exhibited by both.

They have castles and they RULE!
Nice to see Roland the Bisexual Drum Machine making an appearance in this :)
He doesn't care who he plays with!
PLEASE, tell him I would never hurt him NEVER
Promoter: “OK, Mike, Tony, Phil, we’ve used up a lot of the budget but still need to make a music video. Any artistic ideas?”
Genesis: “We don’t care as long as we can get trench coats and cool hats as a business expense.”
Mike Rutheford, es un GENIO
My hometown Liverpool, Empire Theater ❤
Wow, never seen this one before, looks like they had the budget of an after school special
it was 1980, before MTV. Money didn't start really going into video production till '82 - '83
Interesting that they wore the same trench coats and hats for the "Keep it Dark" video.
Video recorded on the 3rd May 1980 at the Liverpool Empire Theatre.
Filmed at the empire theatre liverpool, and outside shot of the queue of fans opposite st Georges hall
clearly produced while on tour. dudes must've been exhausted
kembali muda😁🙏
Halo juga
Giving Roland the bisexual drum machine some quality camera time in the beginning, love it
ah yes the middlepoint where phil and mike both had beards
Times wer Hard .. did we think much bout the Future? .. and what peoples might want?
was it ever realy about the limelight? In The light of things today.. what realy do we want? who will show us? entertain us? whats the UnderlyingMessages we need to address?

My hometown!
I often wonder whatever happened to Rael?
Love that cr78
Finally all these videos are unblocked
Now I see where the Ninjas Turtles got their trenchcoats and hats
Was this video the last we ever saw of Phils beard?
Nope I believe it was in the two hearts video clip with excerpts from the movie. Kinda of cheat. Lol
Misunderstanding video
This one Should have been on VH1 classic
Finally the music video got 100k views
"Look, guys, we've got some spare hours between the soundcheck and the gig. Want to film a video for Duchess?"
"Yeah, alright then."
I'm here after watching a 2016 avril concert since she looked so dead inside its unreal...
Can't believe they cut off the end...
I'd be skeptical about it as well. Doesn't seem like something they'd wanna do, but what do I know?
I always think of Judy Garland when I hear this song.
Tony should have grown a solidarity beard here.
The Time remenber
