- Two Malaysian military helicopters collided and crashed during a training session on Tuesday, killing all 10 crew onboard, the country's rescue agency said.
"The two helicopters collided during flight training. All 10 victims on board have been confirmed dead by the medical officers," Suhaimy Mohamad Suhail, senior operations commander from the fire and rescue department said.
Footage shared online showed several helicopters flying low in a formation over the Lumut naval stadium in a flypast rehearsal ahead of the navy fleet's open day celebrations in May.

This is common practice for airforces around the world. This was just poor communication and training on behalf of that pilot.
Thats like saying the RAF Red Arrows are just reckless, incompetent idiots for doing close formation flying. NO, it's a showcase of skill and aircraft capabilities. They practice for hundreds, if not thousands, of hours to master these maneuvers.

Other countries only use regular military pilots for regular training formation display only. Using regular military pilots to perform air show maneuvers have proven fatal in the past instead of using only highly trained elite air show teams for non-routine flying formations.

The video shows the collision occurred because the turbulence of the blades was too close between the two
"The turbulence of the blade"? The collision didn't occur because of this, the blades contacted because they were trying to occupy the same space at the same time (they touched). Turbulence is an air (in this case) motion or disruption and is all around the blades at a constant pressure.. This was just plain poor flying on the part of one or both pilots. Very sad.

Yeah. Also 2 helicopters collided. But at least they still have an excuse that it was a night mission over the sea, with limited visibility.
Here, it was clear blue skies with plenty of space all around, but they just had to bump each other.

Training is inadequately fatal.
What's boggling me is that the pilot don't have to take the other Helo's space. Why? We may never know but they literally have the sky for themselves. RIP

Hey Telegraph! For stories about aviation, get a writer who has a clue about aviation. There's no such thing as a 'tailspin', and if there was, this wouldn't be it. That's just crap, lazy writing to describe a collision that that clearly destroyed the rotors of both helicopters. At that point they both became uncontrollable objects falling from the sky, no spinning involved. Very sad to see.
It is basically bottom heli's rotor hit upper heli's landing gear resulting in both descend but knowing telegraph and their credibility
Pedant alert!!
@@SenorSol 'Tailspin' describes a display manouvre invented by ignorant journalists. It does not apply to what happened here, several times over. Truth is outside your head, remember.
There is a tailspin in aviation, it means the rapid, uncontrollable descent of an aircraft in a steep spiral, applicable to aircraft with turbojet or turbofan engines Also with helicopters the the tailspin meaning means they will start rotating the opposite way to the the rotation of the main rotor blades if they lose the tail section or the main rotor section becomes severely damaged
@@Jinn174 the uncontrolled descent of any aircraft - jet, piston or glider - in a spiral is just a spin. Learning how they happen, how to recognise the approaching onset and then how to control a spin - i.e. to get out of a spin and back into controlled flight - is a fundamental part of learning to fly. The unbalanced stall that causes one in a fixed-wing aircraft is impossible in a helicopter (but I'd have to apply some more thought to how else they might enter something similar).
A helicopter that's lost either the main or tail rotor is simply a brick with no hope whatsoever of regaining control. The manner in which it happens to spin in some circumstances isn't a manoeuvre that can be named as it can't be entered deliberately nor departed from by a pilot - its very nature stems from catastrophic failure and leads to a guaranteed crash.
I get annoyed by the lazy use of the term in news media and elsewhere because they're far more likely to apply it to any situation where matters are getting out of control - in politics, business, society at large or just one person being confused and going off at a tangent. Here, they've used it because they've seen something rotating and didn't know how else to describe it.
Anyone flying in a helicopter is taking an uncalculated risk. It never ends well despite them saying that if the engine fails we just glide to the ground.
Helicopters don’t glide but yes they can most definitely auto rotate to the ground this however is unrelated

What, u r an expert on these people's militaries ? Mor*n
Every branch of the military needs helicopters. Navy uses them for transport of personnel or cargo or other critical items from 1 ship to another or from ship to shore or vice versa. Navy helicopters are also tasked with conducting SAR operations over water (ie if a boat starts sinking or its occupants are in distress and require medical attention or evacuation). Other more sophisticated roles are anti-surface warfare & anti-submarine warfare (dropping torpedoes and sonar buoys into water).
