Episode 1 - Heading for Spain and already stuck?

- Hello and welcome to my channel.
My name is Nicole (or Evora) and my goal is to travel the world on my motorcycle. As I am an absolute beginner, I decided to start with a tour through Europe (and Morocco) and learn what it means to be on the road for a long time on a motorcycle. I started in France (Grenoble) and on my way to Morocco, I want to visit Andorra, Spain and Gibraltar. After Morocco, the journey will take me back to Spain, then through Portugal, back through France to England, Ireland, Scotland and then to the North Cape. If you are interested in the routes I can send you the gpx file.
For many experienced adventure travelers, this travel diary is probably rather laughable :) but it might be helpful for one or the other. I want to test my equipment and make improvements where necessary.
I am traveling mostly alone, but as I still have a lot to learn in the off-road area, I have booked a few tours at the beginning.
If you have any tips on what I could improve or what's worth seeing along the way, I'd be happy to hear from you. If you want to join me on my journey just subscribe to the channel :)
You did it, you got stuck, you assessed the circumstances and didn't panic. You should be very proud of yourself, nothing you did was easy but you worked through the problems and made it, good on you!
Thank you 😊
100% agree. Also, if you don't drop your bike (several times) /get stuck/lost/etc... is it really an adventure??
I am looking forward to sharing your adventure, good to see you didnt panic during your mishap, stay safe, good luck.
Thank you very much ☺️
Thanks for the nice story and sharing. I am looking forward to see more of your adventures. No one started offroad t without falling a lot, at least I did. Don't get discouraged, you will handle it.
Thanks a lot 🙏🏼😊
Ok I will follow! As a new bike traveler myself I like to follow new travelers and their story’s. Nice to see what you are up to and there is always something to learn 😉 Keep up the nice work and enjoy your travels! 👌
Thank you very much :)
Great start to your adventure Evora.....enjoyable viewing......look forward to your next installment....ride safe.
Thank you 😊
Just saw your Facebook post, what a wonderful adventure. Looking forward to watch your series!
@@alex_dearlove thank you very much 🙏🏼😊
I’m in for the adventure! Thanks for taking us all on your ride. 🙌🏻
Thank you :)
Thank you for sharing this. Good recovery from the fall and well done for keeping calm. Although you didn’t need it this time, it showed how valuable the BMW SOS function could be. Good luck with your travels. Liked the drone footage. Just one suggestion, please include a map showing your route each day. Thanks
Thank you 😊 I just ordered a map online because I couldn't find one in the stores. But it will be in the videos after Portugal 🥲 I'm 2 months behind with the videos.
Well done keeping calm and in control 💪👍
Thank you 🙏🏼😊
Ok I'm hooked.Really enjoyed you're first video.Well done on riding the track and picking up the bike💪. Subscribed😊
Thank you very much 😊
Just found your channel and subscribed straight away. It's truly awesome and inspiring your journey, especially traveling alone and on a big bike, which is my dream to do one day. Can't wait to follow this awesome trip and the many upcoming episodes. Safe trip, and keep it up, you're doing great! 👍👍
Thank you very much 😊
Very brave, great video, looking forward to the rest. Good luck on your adventure 🤞
Thank you very much 😊
Hi Nicole. I commend your adventurous spirit. Well you got the falling bit covered. Let us hope it is the last. Big mistake turning off the engine. If the bike is down and not in-gear it becomes very difficult to pick up. The bike will continually just roll away and your effort is wasted a lot. But you did it! Keep on! Stay strong! greetings from NSW. Australia.
Thank you 🙏🏼 yes, I checked for the gear at least after the first try, but it was in, the bike was sliding sideways. Absolutely amazing that my video reaches Australia.
Hi Evora. Nice video. just a little tip. Get yourself a little velcro belt, ( and keep it on the handle bars) or keep some tie wraps with easy access. whenever you work on the back end of the bike or have to pick it up lock off that front brake/wheel. I see people struggle with this time and time again. locking off the front brake is like having a third hand. 👍Happy travels .Botl
Thank you, good to know, I'll try that
OR…. Just make sure it’s in gear?
@@travelwithevora I have it and it's useful on ferrys to.
@@lawts1240 Nope, being in gear is not enough mate....front wheel, particularly because it swivels, can still roll away from you....if you think about it....Front brake lock...not enough to just have it in gear...I guess you are a newbie too....
I came across your video on my feed. Decided to watch and I'm glad that I did. You handled the situation with the bike very well. You didn't panic and you managed to lift it, with all that luggage by yourself! Well done to you and also well done for your honesty in sharing what happened.
I appreciate that and have subscribed as I'm interested to see more of your journey.
Safe travels and I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Thank you very much 😊
Good for you that you are wearing very good boots. Cuz getting stuck under a pannier is a good way to break a foot. Nice video, and not too intrusive music( some channels get that 😏) Nice bike, too heavy and tall for me so I,m a bit jealous 😋. Keep up the good work, and looking forward seeing more of this. Grts Danny
Thank you very much :) don't be, there are other great bikes available 😊
@@travelwithevora Ooooh hell yes. I just love my Himalayan (lowered of course)😇
Great video, the scenery was stunning and you’ve already inspired my next road trip.
I thought you handled the accident quite well. You managed to keep calm, and kept going. Best wishes for the rest of your trip.
Thank you very much, that's great 😃
That was a good way to start a trip... beautiful places... nice images... waiting for the next. 👏🏻
Thank you ☺️
What gorgeous roads to ride. Enjoy your trip 👍
Thank you 😊
Lovely first video, glad you’re ok and I’ll continue watching 👍🏻
Thank you 😊
Magnificent Route, photography , thank you so much for sharing your journey with us, looking forward for next and all future episodes, safe journey 🙏🌸
Thank you so much 😊
Beautiful scenery. Glad you wasn't injured
Thanks 😊
Just stay safe young lady a fantastic video 👌💯👍
Thank you 🙏🏼☺️
Thats a great recovery you made picking up that bike and carrying on well done. i travel alone too and thats my greatest fear. we gain valuable experience when we drop and pick up again thats how we learn. great video and I wish you all the best for you journey.
Thank you very much, that's absolutely true 😊
your welcome
Very scenic tour route! I hope you and the GS didn't hurt that bad 🙂
I'm already excited to see where you will end up, and hope you chose a lot of exciting routes like in this first video!
Best wishes from Bavaria!
PS: Where did you get that sidestand extension adapter from? 😛
Thanks 😊🙏🏼
No the GS is fine (and fell many more times by now)
Well actually the sidestand Extension broke at a very stony track 🥲 that made me really sad..
I have really enjoyed the video. I think that Morocco is quite a challenge for an absolute beginner, you obviously have big ambitions. I have two main trips planned for my motorcycle and camping gear, one to explore an area in northern Spain I passed through a couple if years ago (it has a huge number of historic sites that I would like to visit) and the other is a trip over to Southern Germany returning via northern Italy, Grenoble and the Massif Central. On the second trip I should be travelling on some of the roads that you featured today. I travel on a smaller motorcycle, a Honda 500X. I downsized from a much bigger, heavier bike and I love it. One of the things I particularly like about it is that it is so much more manageable when the going gets difficult. I too travel alone and want a motorcycle that I can lift up easily if it falls in the more difficult trails. Another thing I love about it, in addition to it being very comfortable, is it’s fuel consumption. I normally average about 3,1 litres:100km on my travels. I look forward to your following videos so I have subscribed. Bonne Route!
Thank you very much :) that sounds great, yeah it absolutely makes sense to take a lighter bike, I will get one next year I guess. I wish you all the best for your trips.
Really enjoyed watching your first video, very brave and well done at picking such a heavy bike up on your own, I hope there wasn’t to much damage,,
Looking forward to your next video 😁👌
Thank you 😊 no, there was nothing broken on the bike
Nice video, and I really appreciate the tidbits of information on the various places you visit or pass by. Keep pushing forward, I have subscribed and look forward to your future videos.
Thank you 😊
Hi Evora I wish you could luck with your new adventures it’s really nice to travel and discover new places hope you describe more about your self and of course it would be nice to hear about your setup like your moto and your gear take care and enjoy every moment
Hi Christopher, good to know, I'll do a video about that but it might take some time and I adjust my luggage at the moment that's why it makes more sense to do it then.
Excellent quality for your first video 😀👍 well done and I have subscribed. Also congratulations on getting out of the situation on that trail. You showed us some superb scenery and gave some great information re places and costs. My only comment would be that some of the background music was a bit loud (at the start). When you were talking the volume was perfect, but then when the ‘background’ music played as you were riding it was rather intrusively loud, so I turned it down, but then when you spoke again I had to turn the volume up to hear you. Not sure if that’s an editing issue or my TV though 😂 but all in all a brilliant first video. Keep them coming 😀
Thanks a lot 😊 yeah It is too loud, I'll work on that, thanks for the feedback 😊
Fantastic first video, really well shot and edited, and of course really interesting, I did feel for you when you were trapped by the pannier, well done for wearing good boots. I worry if you use your phone for navigation it may overheat in the sun in Spain and Morroco. Liked and subscribed.
Thank you very much, I usually use the phone and it worked quite well (I had problems below -10 and over 40 degree Celsius) but I have a Garmin in any case (mount on the handlebar)
You’re awesome with a lot of courage. Beginner riding a fully loaded huge bike a bit crazy. I wish you all the best. Go girl
@@kipper2942 thank you :)
Enough said about the accident. I was impressed by your nice video. Many different views including drone view. Really enjoyable to watch. Enjoy your next ride. Looking forward to watch the video’s.
Thank you very much 😊
I agree, good video footage, but the choice of music is somewhat distracting.
wow great job for the first video! Hello from your subscriber #20 from Melbourne, Australia. Nice work!
Thank you very much 😊🙏🏼 great to see that my video reached Australia 😍
What an awesome video, well done you Nicole! I'm not a skilled off road rider but I think you did very well!👍👍
Thank you very much 🙏🏼
Wow Evora great vlog ...hope your adventures go well.. ..following SN can get you in difficulty especially on shortest route setting...check the route well before you commit....we've all got ourselves in a pickel like that!! It's hard to turn round and admit it's too much ...hope you're OK...❤
Thank you, yes I had some dirt roads before but never a track like that 😅 I'm ok thank you 😊
Enjoyed your video and well done getting your self back up and running. Hope you have a great journey.
Thank you 🙏🏼
What a day! Well done for dealing with a fall and mad dogs! 👊🏻👊🏻
Thank you 🙏🏼
Well done on getting out a tricky situation, learning off road is not easy, especially on a bike that heavy!! I enjoyed this video, I will subscribe and look forward to more off road adventures. 😀
Thank you 😊 there will be more even if the next videos are mostly Onroad
Loved the video, it’s an area I’d like to visit. You did well on that track and you only dropped the bike once! Looking forward to the next one. Ride safe 🙂
Thank you very much :)
You did great and a massive well done…🙌🙂
Thank you 😊
What an amazing video.Riding the balcony roads one handed while filming got my attention. As for the road come track where you'd gone beyond the point of no return I hardly breathed the whole way down. I ride a GS and unfortunately I'm not blessed with height or strength so when you were stuck by your foot after your fall I felt for you .Amazed you managed to pick it up the way you did and thought you very lucky the side stand was engaged without tipping it over the other way. Definitely subscribed as one of the best videos I've seen
Thank you very much 😊 well if the bike is up it almost ways nothing, I never was scared of dropping it to the other side
Well done you they are a heavy beast , we will watch you progress with interest very good video. Ride safe.
Thank you 🙏🏼🙂
Excellent video and cinematography, good idea to take your foot out of the boot. Glad you are ok, and continued the journey. I would say there is safety in numbers and as a new rider that might have been another option to consider.
Thank you 🙏🏼😊
I remember in Portugal following the sat nav which took me down such a bouldered pathway on my fully loaded Electra Glide. Once committed, no room to turn round. Made it close to the end but, the back wheel was not gripping and front wheel slipping. Luckily I saw some houses further down and went and asked for help. Two big lads helped pushed me to better ground so I could get some traction & momentum. Big thanks and handshakes then back on the road.
🫣🫣 but at least, these are the things you will keep in mind 😊
Hi. That was an exciting and eventful first day. You handled the mishap of the drop really well. I've never ridden offroad but I hope that in the next year or two I can do some touring too. I'm looking forward to following your journey. Keep the shiny side up 😀.
Thank you so much ☺️ you should absolutely do it 👌🏼
What a beautiful ride looks fantastic, I would love to ride that route 😊
Thank you :)
Okay, I'm on board and subscribed... Glad you didn't edit out the breathing and discomforting sound when faced with resistance. Takes vulnerability to have a true adventure. LISTO!
Thank you 🙏🏼😄 to be fair.. I would have done it, but editing sound is very difficult.. 😄
It happens to us all. I decent pair of 50/50 tyres makes all the difference.looking forward to following your adventure
Thank you 😊 I had off road tires mounted, the mitas e10
For a beginner I salute you, travelling on those roads with no support or companion to help! Very brave or maybe a tad stupid. Especially if you have little or no experience of riding on roads like that. Glad you're OK.
Thanks :) well some people call riding a motorcycle stupid..
@@travelwithevora As long as you are safe. I cannot ride the GS as it is too tall for me, but to see you lift a loaded one as you did, wow!! I did Morocco last year on my Moto Guzzi V85TT. My companion was on his GS. Both very capable bikes. Evora, keep doing what you do but take care!
Looks like you got some very good crash bars on so your bike is well protected, good for you having a go of that trail , well done 👍🫣
Yes, I upgraded the Crash bars before I started :D it was worth it
Very nice video! Do more of that! 🎉🎉
Dankeschön 🙏🏼
I'm looking forward to this.
Good job with the boot. On steep slopes with loose stones I've learned to put it in first gear and try and use the engine breaking before touching the rear brake. And don't touch the front brake. I learned that one. I don't want to be patronising and you probably already know this, but just in case you didn't.
Thank you 😊 yeah, I would do it better now but the front brake is possible at the BMW GS (the magic of the GS 😅)
Back then I heard of using the clutch as break but I never did it before and the luggage was a problem as well. But I worked on these points and it's far better now 😊
New subscriber based in Kenya. Good luck to you and your journey 👍🏽👍🏽
Wow 😃 thank you
Best of luck on your adventure! Stay safe !!!
Thank you 🙏🏼
Hi Nicole, that’s a great start to what I’m sure is going to be an exciting adventure, don’t worry about the fall we all have them and you handled it excellently but just remember there is no rush to get the bike back upright so next time take a breather before lifting the bike to save pulling a muscle etc, I know as I have a R1200 Rallye. Are you on the road now or is this an old trip you are just releasing? Gaz
Hi Gaz, thank you 🙏🏼 I'm on the road and I'll travel until September. The video itself is from April 12th, it takes quite some time working on videos while traveling, but I'll try to post every Friday.
From one newby to another, you did a great job. Very nice sceneries maybe some more comments about the scenery. But I think you did some nice filming.
I'm anxious to see you next video.
Greeting from the Netherlands.
Thanks for the feedback 😊 I'll keep it in mind, but I already filmed some more days, so changing might take some time. 😅
Great first video. Maybe turning the engine off on your descent contributed to your fall. I’m sure your engine braking would have helped you slow down. Be safe, and happy trials 🕺
Thank you :) Yes, I actually heard of it at this point but never did it before.. so I wasn't quite sure about it. But now I am capable of doing it 😅
Be safe, enjoy your trip, make some happy memories xx
Hi Evora, Kudos to you and will be following you on your trip from the UK (have subscribed). One day I hope to do such a tour with my wife but relatively new to biking myself (2 years in) and doing 2 up on a Triumph Tiger Sport 660. I know that as soon as I sit on a GS, I will want that bike to do such mile long tours.
Hi Kevin, thank you 😊 you should absolutely do it 👌🏼 and yes, that's how I got the 1250 😅 it wasn't planned.. but then I got a test ride
Well it's one way of taking a closer look at the engine i guess xD
Also i was on Montpelier, so close to that wonderful Combe Laval road... and i didn't go because i did not know it existed 😩
Love your channel already, subscribed! Hugs from Valencia (Spain)!
😂😂 it is .. thank you very much 😃 next time you know it
Your accident scene should be a lesson to all other inexperienced adventure tourers who watch your videos. You managed to lift your heavily laden bike but with a monster like the GS it would have been so much easier if you had removed the luggage first. All these errors are basic mistakes and you will learn from them but you have set yourself a very high level of necessary skill, a BMW GS is not the bike to learn to ride on loose surfaces on. Beginners and experts make mistakes and having a big clumsy motorcycle can turn small problems int serious incidents. I’m sure we all wish you well but so far I can’t help thinking that that was an accident waiting to happen.
You should also carry a Velcro strap to strap your front brake lever so the wheel doesn’t roll while your trying to lift the bike!
@@veiledallegoryisn't it easier to just leave it in gear?
@@squalidstuffdepends on which wheel has the best location. If you are on a hill facing down or up, or side hill. Or broken clutch lever etc.
Thank you for your comment :) well for traveling long distances with luggage it will be always difficult to find the perfect bike. I think the GS is actually not that bad but with the luggage, especially blocking my back seat was a huge mistake. I will reduce the luggage even further to actually move on the bike. But the engine also gives you space, I once was stuck unter a f850 and this is even worse.. I fell many times with the 1250 and this was the first time I had this issue but only because of the luggage.
@@jimthompson717 That makes sense, everydays a learning day.
Well done tackling that track with all that weight and picking up the bike on your own. It reinforces my view that I would never buy hard panniers due to weight and safety concerns if I dropped it.
Thank you, yes there are far better solutions 😅 I took what I had, but it will improve over time
Great Job Nicole wish you all the best. My hole Family follows you :)
Wow 🥹 thank you very much 🙂
Hi there, nice video and interesting places you covered.
As you asked for recomendations: That looks like a super heavy overloaded bike to do offroading to me.
Also i would never use hard paniers when going offroad, thos could easely break your legs when falling off.
I only use soft luggage on my triumph tiger and adapt weight with the trip in mind. You mostly do not use the stuff you packed anyway. What have you mounted for tyres ? At least go for 50/50 ones (or 20/80 and adapt speed on tarmack)
A part from that, i would always try to find a companion when going offroad, it is safer
Good luck and safe travels , i am a subscriber !
@@triskelworkshop2855 Hi, thank you very much for your feedback. It's true that the bike was very heavy loaded and I reduced it in the meantime. Unfortunately I needed everything.. therefore I had to spend a good amount of money to replace the most important things with other stuff that covers more than one usecase. And even now after 2.5 months of traveling I had to order more (warm) stuff..
Overall it's actually not that much, but for example my sleeping bag takes half of the big case. With the tent, some tools, my air mattress and some emergency dry food the whole panier is full. :/
I will change my paniers at some point to soft luggage but it's just too expensive right now. Unfortunately I bought them before I knew it better.
But I try to adjust and improve over time and my bike is now already ~ 25kg lighter.
Hi Evora, Europe will awsome. tell us where you are and going on the day, I’d keep off the small tracks too. That gs is too heavy, you done well no injury and picking it up@800 kms is ambitious with those tracks included… be safe girl…👍🇬🇧
Well the small tracks are more beautiful, aren't they :) Thank you
Fabulous video and well done on staying calm when feeling under pressure on your own after a tumble.
Its hard starting out on YT and we are the same with just a few new subs each week, but stay true to your journey, and your channel will grow as its excellent content so far. Well done and looking forward to the next one. Subscribed !! 👍
Thank you very much 😊🙏🏼
Well done on staying calm and composed. Take time to thing things through when things like that happen give it chance for the adrenaline to settle so you make sensible decisions. You handled it great and also great job getting the bike back up, that's not an easy task!
Thanks a lot 🙏🏼😊
If you're heading to the UK, then may I suggest a visit to the team at Off Road Skills in Wales? Best of luck
That sounds good, I'll check it out 👌🏼
Hi, OK she did it, great and I am happy for her. I am 1.88 m ,100KG man , but I would never take such a heavy bike and so much stuff. I travel for 40 years with enduro bikes and had never so much package. Stay healthy, enjoy yor travel. Klaus
Thanks :) yes it's a lot of stuff... I reduced it twice :) overall about 30kg.. but now I bought some new stuff because I need it. Covering Morocco and the north of Europe is not that simple.
Nice vid. I’d just like to say that when you’re off-road, always be aware of where you can put your foot down and where you obviously can’t. When you’re losing momentum, whatever bike you’re on, it’s probably best to stop and put your foot down rather than try to steer out of the problem. Caution is always preferable especially when riding alone.
The other thing is if you’re trying to lose weight on the bike, check out the wild camping vids. Their kit for camping-out normally weight less than 10kg and is super compact.
For tools have a look at Mattias Eriksson’s recent vid which saves me a lot of explanation. Again 1-2kg for tools and ultra compact is achievable.
Have fun and thanks for posting the vid.
Thank you, that's true, I'll keep it in mind 👌🏼
Well my tent has 2,7kg, the air mattress is quite thin and not heavy at all. Only the sleeping bag is big but it is for -20 degree Celsius (and I'm already freezing in it at +10 degree Celsius 😕) so I can't really take one of these small sleeping bags. Except of a flashlight and one small stove for hot water I have no camping stuff.
Yes the tools might be an option, I checked some sets before but they are expensive as hell 😅
Well done, im going to enjoy your journey. Heavy them bikes arnt they? very well done for picking up and carrying on 👍
Thank you very much ☺️
Good on you. That's a huge bike to manage. I struggle with my 750gs. Safe journey.
Thank you 😊 🙏🏼
Well done ! Heavy bike, but you managed it. I think your next trip will be with at least 15kg less luggage, which you will realise after this one. It looks like you have taken a lot of stuff that you don't actually need. Good video and thanks for description of the places where you have been, it helps planning new trips.
Thank you, well I sent some stuff home (twice) but It wasn't actually unnecessary, I only did it to cut weight. Now I had to order other clothes to go further Nord 😅 packing for the desert and the north cape including camping and Electronics is not that simple. 🥲
@@travelwithevora yes, I understand. I feel sorry seeing you with all the hard panniers, tank bag and back pack. I started using only soft luggage after my first long trip. That itself let the weight drop by almost 18kg. Fingers crossed for you, I will be watching, have fun on your trip!
@@nkwd007 thank you 😊 the top pannier is gone.. only the side cases are left.. And if I'm not totally broke at the end of the year I'll use softbags next year 🤣
Keep it up - great work getting out of the situation on the mountain! I bought a GS Adventure in Spain and rode it back to Sweden five years ago, and dropped it on the first day when parking on some gravel in the middle of nowhere in Spain. I know both the feeling of panic and adrenaline, and the sound of that SOS signal going off...🙂
Don't really agree with those who say you should get a smaller bike though - you managed to pick it up fine, and you will certainly enjoy the benefits of the GS when you need to munch some long miles on tarmac. It is really comfortable when doing long days in the saddle.
When you get some off-road/gravel training done, you will be much more confident on the slippery stuff as well - best of luck!
I doubt if you will be "much" more confident on 250kg loaded bike after couple of hours of training. On easy gravel roads maybe, off-road I dont think so. What you've done was a bit reckless, luckily no broken bones. The whole thing might ended before it really started. Hope it was valuable lesson. All the best with your adventure.
Thank you 🙏🏼 yeah I think dropping the bike is part of the game 🙃 but I'll definitely work on my skills ..
I'll keep the GS for Europe but Next year I plan to leave the continent, so I guess a lighter bike might indeed be better
Hi,new to your channel firstly well done for not panicking and working out how you do things to get yourself upright. When you did pick your bike up at least you can say you did it. Unlike one comment that you had about removing all your gear off bike first like your head is in that space to think like that on your own. Maybe if I was stuck there for a few hours unable to pick bike up that I would of considered that. You done really well (Don't know how you ended up there in the first place though) Never trust a Sat Nav look at your maps and yes you should carry a map as well especially when going to a strange new place. Anyway boring myself now Haha well done you. Look forward to more.
best regards Dale..
Hi Dale,
Thank you :) I was looking for a fuel station, this track was ~14km and the other one was ~40km 😅 so I took the short one, but I thought it will be a paved road. Yes a map would be better, but also the osmAnd Navigation is better in that case :)
If your going to take a tumble might as well have a good view, good luck for the rest of the trip.
Thats absolutely right :D thank you
Evora, well done there, you did just brilliant to get yourself out of that tricky situation. Those dogs looked nasty!
Thank you 😊 .. yes they did, these dogs make me crazy, I had so many of these moments
Great first episode. Brought back some fond riding memories for me. One suggestion, maybe lower the music volume when riding as some prefer to hear the motorcycle 🍻
Thank you 😊 good to know
Great first video. And an eventful first day.
Can I suggest you tweak the audio to boost your voice and reduce the background music as a few times you were speaking but it was hard to hear over the music.
I will be back for more so keep it going!
Thank you very much, I'll work on that :) thanks for letting me know
Nice work … keep going.
Thank you
Happy motoring, happy riding.❤🎉
Thank you 😊
Hope you feel ok lady friend...that is why I choose soft ones, one of the main hazards when using hard panniers, they can break a leg very easy. But you made it, main thing here, you are ok.👍💪🇵🇷
Yees I do 😊 I'll switch to soft luggage one day.. but for now the cases have to do the work 🥲 thank you
You were going into shock, I know, same happened to me except I needed hospital, well done!
Damn that's bad :/ but everything is all right now?
@@travelwithevora No, I need physiotherapy for the leg, I was going to Spain on my Vstrom.. safe travels and best wishes.
@@JamesFerguson-ej2cc oh that's unlucky :( get well soon. Thanks
Good luck with your journey. My advice is that if you travel alone, you MUST be able to pick up your bike on your own. Not just once but many times in a day if the track conditions are bad. Some days you will drop your bike several times in a matter of meters, and you get tired really quick.
Thanks for your comment, I can pick up the GS many times :) and if not I can put of the luggage in seconds
Glad that you made it without any real damage, and you got away with some great learning experience. Although, some off-road training will do you good!
Also, make sure that you have prepared your bike properly with the right sag and damping ( loaded and you sitting on the bike )
Finally, thanks for sharing some cost/data 🙂
Thanks 🙏🏼 yes indeed, I booked some trainings 👌🏼 the GS has automatic damping, but it is quite low with the luggage.. 🫣
Great to get feedback on that :) I was unsure about sharing all costs but I think it's good to give an idea what such a trip costs
yea lifting that aint easy got myself a tiger 1200 not fun to pick up would recoment soft panniers for offroad riding as less likly to brake an ankle or tib bone if your leg gets under like yours did almost glad to see you didnt panik too much and got back on the road keep those videos coming
Thank you :) yeah, soft luggage is on my bucket list but it takes some time
I am along for the ride, but my Ducatii Monster 1200 would look out of place! Hey from Wales.
Thanks 🙏🏼 😊 yes the GS can handle a lot.. I tested it the last week 😂
So many lessons to learn from this…
First, these bikes are just way too heavy for non-experts to off-road on isolated backroads. This is even more true when heavily loaded.
Secondly, hard panniers are terrible for off-roading. It’s of course possible to get pinned in any situation but the risk increases with hard case panniers. I use a hard case top bag for the security they offer but would never use hard panniers. In addition, they add far too much weight.
Third, practice off-roading on multiple surfaces with the same load you’re planning to carry is everything. I canning emphasize strongly enough the importance and value of investing in professional training and following up with consistent practice before going on backroad adventures.
Finally, although not directly related to this situation, anyone going on off-road adventures should have at least advanced first aid training. Although it may not help self injury it increases situational awareness and allows you to render aid when finding others in emergencies.
Thank you for your advice :) well I invested a lot of money and did some training in the meantime. In this video I already booked two off road trips with guide and was on my way to go there.
It's true that the panniers are not perfect but I bought them before I heard of it and now I have to deal with it. It's simply not possible to throw them away and invest another ~1000€
For the last point, I'm a former soldier and did the first aid training every year.
@@travelwithevora Happy to hear that! You definitely have the right attitude and grit! Looking forward to more videos 👍🔥
It sounds like you have quite the journey planned. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos on this journey. I ride a BWM R1250 GS Adventure myself. The GS is a lovely bike, you handled that fall great. Good thing the bike is easy to pick up am I right. :) Greetings from Sweden :)
Thanks a lot 😊 yes, it falls quick but picking it up is quite easy compared to some ~200kg bikes
@@travelwithevora oh yea it's absolutely one of the "lighter" +200kg bikes. I had a Tenere 700 before this and getting that thing up straight after tipping over was way more work than the GSA. I wish you nice weather and beautiful scenery, and a safe ride. But not too safe, it's called an adventure bike after all. 😀
👍 enjoy your trip! Hope you come to Belgium to.
Yes I will ☺️
@@travelwithevora your welkom !!!
Great video with some excellent photography. Out of interest, where did you find a bracket for your GoPro remote?
Thank you :) the remote has no bracket, I only put the original strap around my mirror.
@@travelwithevora Thank you. That’s what I do with mine which i find a bit fiddly 🤦♂️ Safe travels.
Greetings from Iceland, thank you for a nice video. I suggest you get a smaller Adventure bike like the KTM 390...easy to handle and will do everything you need and you will enjoy your ride so much more. I downsized 3 years ago and it brought back the joy of riding. Stay safe.
😊 thanks for your comment, I hope I'll be in Iceland someday. I will take a smaller bike when I leave Europe (next year), but the 390 might be too small (I'm tall), I thought about ~ 700ccm
@@travelwithevora I downsized from KTM 890 and I am tall 187cm and about 100kg and the 390 I use now is just great it is not the size that matters it is the ease of handling that matters, especially off road and on gravel. Take it from a pro I have been riding all my life. Hope to see you some day in Iceland, stay safe.
@@arcticbraga322 I'm not super tall (180cm), but am close to 100kg. I also ride a KTM 390ADV. I just took it up a fast high altitude highway in Canada and it handled it just fine. The highway starts near sea level and then gains over a kilometre in elevation in less than 50km distance. Highest elevation 1,444 m. The bike was easily able to maintain 130km/hr the whole climb. I also take it on technical single track without any modifications. It's so light that it makes everything easy.
As others have said, you appear to have too much gear, but you should also try to keep the weight you are carrying lower. If you top box has stuff in it, you should definitely make sure it is only the lightest stuff you have.
Also, never never never ever turn your bike off while rolling off-road. You are far more stable with power to the rear wheel, even if it is just being dragged along.
@@WillpowerJapan Totally agree regarding the performance of the 390....and on top of that the handling both off and on road is just pure joy. Off road I run circles around my riding companions riding heavier bikes I am not going back to bigger or heavier bikes.... that's for sure. Stay safe.
I think just be your self , perhaps tell us a bit about the places your riding too and about your bike and what you’ve done to it? Also it’s always good to involve us by your videos showing the front of the bike when you ride but don’t feel under pressure just be your self😊🏍️
Thank you 🙏🏼 filming the front is a bit difficult as I'm alone.. and using the selfie stick that far out will lead to a poor video quality but I'll see what I can do :)
Loved the vlog great adventure I think lighter bike would benefit you more plus more enjoyable light is right
Thank you 🙏🏼 yes, it is planned for next year, but right now I'll keep to the gs
Well done.
Thank you
That's why I no longer ride big bikes off road anymore especially solo. One wrong move or fall can get you pinned possibly breaking a leg and unable to get the bike off. For now my DR650 is the biggest bike I take on trips with off road sections.
That makes sense 😊
I'm only going by what I could see from your camera point of view but it looked like your foot was caught between the pannier and the pillion peg bracket. If you don't need them remove the bracket and pegs, they can be a ankle breaker. Beautiful ride.
Yes it would be an option but it isn't allowed to dismount them in Germany (registration of the bike) and they also might be helpful that the cases won't bend too much.. and if I change the luggage system I might need them because they also work as connection point 🤔
Take an allroad / offroad course first. And don’t travel alone, at least not if you have a heavy GS (plus a lot of heavy bagage).
Absolutely 💯 I booked a trip in Morocco to go off road and I booked two trainings + tour in Spain to get better and to know my limits
Great first video. Maybe a bit less music and more live commentary during the crash section. But what do I know?
Thanks 😊 yes, I'll work on that, I'm not used to talk that much yet
Thanks for the tip of Vercores. As you already know, your bike is too heavy, also for me (105kg). May be you can reduce luggage. But after all, you have been able to free yourself and get the bike upright. Congrats! Thats an important milestone, not a mishap. May be you could detach the sozius footrest, could be easier to free yourself. I like your style to enjoy the beauty, which may behind every corner. Important rule: safe undistracted riding comes always first, safe stop, then enjoy! I would recommend small border crossings in the pyrenees between Pamplona and Huesca. May be a loop? French side usually wet, Spanish side usually blue skies. Nice spots for a tent.
Thank you 🙏🏼 The sozius footrest would be an option, but it also kind of holds the case back von bending too far inside the bike.. but I definitely reduce the luggage, I ordered another bag and will get rid of the topcase and duffle bag.. the side cases will be a bigger investment. I'll see what I can docan.
That sounds great, but It might get a bit difficult to do it in time. I'll see if it is possible.
@@travelwithevora No hurry, like Itchy Boots😂😂
@@stefanmargraf7878 no 😅 I'm going slow.. I've far less experience
@@stefanmargraf7878 Noraly has had a pretty bad experience herself. It just shows, sometimes you fall off, pick the bike up and carry on but another more awkward fall that breaks bones can have huge consequences.
@@davidmatthews3093 I know. It is not on me to critize Noraly. She is doing her thing in her pace, and thats great. Her treatment in the Netherlands was bad. I am very, very sorry for that. I am a MD myself.
