Episode 8 Part 1 - on a BMW R1250GS through Morocco - What was I thinking? The Desert is too tough

  • It was a very unusual feeling for a solo traveler to be on the road in a group, but I really enjoyed not having to plan anything but just following along. One thing is for sure, I would have never seen so many places in Morocco if I had explored it alone. Apart from many off-road passages that I wouldn't have driven alone, we had 3 people in the group who spoke Arabic, which makes a big difference.
    I was extremely insecure on the track and I am very grateful to Pierre that he took the time to ride the track in Chefchaouen with me.
    The list of costs comes at the end of the second part, but I can't name individual items as we used Tricount in the group and I therefore don't know many of the individual prices. (Of course I paid for the tour in full, but I don't share tour prices because I don't want to get in the way of possible price adjustments by the providers).

    Hello Evora,
    I envy your adventurous ride in Morocco but I also know how tough it is sometimes.
    During my trip through Morocco with my Guzzi V85tt I also had great difficulty with loose sand.
    Driving in sand becomes easier if you have more speed and steer loosely.
    But that's easier said than done.
    Your videos have gotten better and better and so will your off-road skills if you can practice more.
    Please continue with your beautiful journey and enjoy it.
    Greetings, Frans from the Netherlands.

      Thank you so much 🙏🏼 yes, I tried to keep up the speed with constant throttle but you become slower and slower.. You really do have to keep giving throttle jolts.. I really want to try it again, but it was a bit better in Part 2 which will be online on Tuesday :)
      There are still so many things to learn 😃 I do my best

    1:21 that's not dropping the bike, that's warming up the back muscles for the trail ahead :D
    This episode comes to show how hard is to offroad with big and heavy adventure bikes. Most people i know with those will do as you did or worse. They require lots of training to ride without continuously running into trouble. Don't feel bad about it. There are very good reasons for Noraly (Itchyboots) to ride a small Honda CRF 300 that is, wait for it, almost A HUNDRED kg less than your bike.
    I love the voice over. Is way, way better than subtitles and it feels like a documentary :D

    • @donewhiskey
      @donewhiskey Місяць тому +1

      I also ride a CRF300L and it is much easier in sand or difficult terrain, BUT it's not fun at all on the highway or fast tarmac. It's an absolute weapon in the city, though. That works for Noraly, because she avoids those roads if at all possible. I think a lot of the issues with the GS will be solved with more throttle and more off-road experience. That said, I will personally never ride anything over 750. After 800, everything becomes just too cumbersome.

    • @travelwithevora
      @travelwithevora  Місяць тому +2

      😅 yeah that was the actual reason for dropping the bike in the beginning 😇
      That's true, it makes sense, especially for big stretches of sand.
      The Voice over is only possible if I stay at a place on my own 🥲 If I stay in a hostel or on a campsite it's most of the time too loud to record anything.

    It makes an entertaining video but like in an earlier episode you are on the wrong bike with the wrong tyres for the conditions. It all becomes hard work and tiring. At least you’re not trying to cross the sand on your own. 🙂 10/10 for endurance.
