I bought mine to play Ready or Not, BeamNG and a lot of other pc titles that I’ve wanted to play for years. Better performance for dollar and I get what I want and more. Gotta wait a week tho 🥹
You can hold the STEAM button and then use the right trackpad as a mouse in any game If you keep just the STEAM button held, it'll also show you other shortcuts, for example STEAM + X always opens the on-screen keyboard

I knew it would run wreckfest alright, but i figured as soon as you loaded west coast on Beam that it would take a near unplayable turn. This makes me want one, and im not a mobile gamer at all.

I play a lot of games....including the likes of ARMA, and Star Citizen, and beam NG ramps my fans harder than anything else. It has also crashed my system a few times in the past, but that has been optimized out.
This being a 1st gen device, I have really high hopes for this. With a dock, and a controller, playing some Beam in the living room would be awesome. This is I believe the next generation in gaming devices. Pocket portable, multi controller connectable, with high definition or 4k output ability to TVs. These will undoubtedly replace the brick consoles such as Xbox and PS devices. With faster smaller CPUs and GPUs, it only makes sense. Just wait til we have access to quantum chips. It'll make today's tech seem sluggish.

It's not that Beamng wouldn't be able to run on a console, it's that it would require the devs to get an sdk for it, and then rebuild the game from the ground up as the cpu architecture on the consoles are different. The steam deck is emulating a PC, few changes, if any, had to be modified for it to run on the steam deck. Adding beamng to consoles, would mean they'd have to allocate a part of the dev team to the consoles, everything would have to be done twice, or 3 times depending on the console, and it would take away from the overall development teams resources. We all praise the updates the devs put out on PC. There's a chance that it would take away from that if they started development for console. It's not impossible. It's just not a route a lot of dev teams want to take, and I respect that
Another thing adding to the problem for beamng is that it's almost entirely bespoke code. There's no UE or Unity codebase where they'd be able to outsource the port to someone.
The Steam Deck is not emulating a PC. There's native Linux builds for some games, and for most of the rest it uses Proton, which _also_ doesn't emulate anything. In very basic terms, Proton takes calls the game makes to the system, and translates them to something Linux can actually understand. This process is actually extremely inexpensive in CPU cycles, so speed is around the same as running directly on Windows. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Sometimes it straight up doesn't work, but that's another story.

How is the deck running these games? Is it using proton? I'm pretty sure this console is running SteamOS and if this is the case I think the deck will help the linux gaming community a lot with getting official game ports to linux
Yes is running Proton. Great experience so far. Hope more games that use anti cheat support it soon. Seeing Apex legends and Elden Ring is a big win however

i am pretty sure new gen consoles are pretty comparable to like the new 3000 nvidia gpus and CPUs are really top end. maybe not on xbox one or ps4 but definitely on ps5 and xbox series x/s
If you can get your hands on the OLED model that was released years after this video was made, could you do a side by side comparison between the LCD and OLED models?
Another thing to consider is that (in my experience) because all the steam deck's parts are exclusive to the deck, most games automatically set to highest settings because it doesn't recognize what kind of power it is working with, and this can affect the performance of games on the deck
I remember when my pc could barely handle Beamng Drive on a PC with min graphics and now your able to have it on a handheld just wow its amazing And yes I've had some serious upgrades to my PC it now can handle max graphics just fine.
They probably can't bring it to the ps5 because of the cpu and gpu architecture. I could be wrong but considering that steam deck has a semi normal ryzen cpu and ps5 doesn't... omg, this game 4-5 years ago was running on my full fat pc with pentium 4 on gridmap v1 in 20-30 fps, and i was happy with it. But now u can play beamng drive on the toilet (lol i saw it now, after wirting the comment that u said the same thing) in 60 frames, holy cow And I think the reason for it to not get to the consoles is that the code was made in windows lang thing i guess, so the devs are lazy to transform it i think

Theirs alot of issues when your dealing with a game that was made to run on PC only. Even if it's possible they will still have to remake the game from the ground up to make it run fluidly. The mod aspect would also be a challenge if you look at how long it took the devs for snowrunner to get the ok from Microsoft and Sony. In my opinion the game could run on consoles but the devs don't want to do it because it leads to more headaches.

I think the reason the devs havent made a console version is the mods. It would force them to either make devs make their mods compatible which would make a ton of mods incompatible or they would have to curate mods and port them. Without the mods beamng is a kinda small game. But at the same time they also said multiplayer was impossible but some modders figured it out and made it run relatively well.

A console is limited on a lot of things cause a overclocked console can overheat and shutdown and have a meltdown unlike a pc. But if you have a beta version of the console you have no limits on it cause you will be able to run beamng drive with no lag at all. But beta consoles are rare to find and the PS4 has about 20 beta version of the console I don't know about the Xbox.

When did this game come out. If i remember (could be wrong) it came out with the ps4 era. So those systems 100% couldn't handle it. The pro version of both consoles couldn't. These new systems, 100% with some tweaks if need be. So I agree, just a matter of time before we can get it on consoles

You just buy a 64gb for 400$ and then add a 1tb Micro card
My one question would be what would happen if example you had a fatal gpu not responding error happen on the steam deck would you be able to close it or would you have to entire shut down the system

How much did you pay for the steam deck?
You could possibly get better performance if you lower the graphics settings if possible?
Did performance increase when playing connected to power, compared to on battery?
When did this game come out. If i remember (could be wrong) it came out with the ps4 era. So those systems 100% couldn't handle it. The pro version of both consoles couldn't. These new systems, 100% with some tweaks if need be. So I agree, just a matter of time before we can get it on consoles
