Mildly surprised to see a Dark Souls comparison rather than Devil May Cry, particularly seeing as DMC is essentially the originator of God Hand's particular style of action game.
I haven't played DMC, which may be why that comparison wasn't used here. That said, I've absolutely added DMC to my To Play list after playing God Hand.

DMC 3 special edition is the game I'd personally recommend for a first experience in general, as that is not only likely one of the key influences for god hand, but also the game that really nailed that super stylish gameplay.
Also its a prequel, so its a decent intro to the characters and story.

Honestly, this is the best video that explains God Hand that I've watched so far. Not everyone is talking about the feel and how the meant to be ultimately played.
Just because a game is actually a video game with what was once normal video game design does NOT make it "like dark souls"... it makes it like a video game. This was the era before hyper casualization to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Games weren't movies back then, you had to actually put in work to beat a game.

The ending theme of this game is truly god (hand) tier.
That said, you did kind of miss the point on why stereotypes are potentially harmful and are rightfully seen as punching down. This kind of silliness COULD be done withOUT the stereotypes of marginalized groups.

I am playing through god hand right now and I would say my biggest problem is the learning curve. It's kind of a hard game to get into for newcomers because of how weird the gameplay is. I found the original dmc to be a much easier game for newcomers. That said, once you get a decent understanding of how the combat works, it becomes really addictive. The combat has loads of depth and customization making it great for repeated playthroughs. I also love the way the difficulty works. It's a really unique kind of adaptive difficulty, something like I've never seen before. Overall, I would say god hand is a one of a kind experience for anyone who likes action games and is willing to be a little patient with some of it's weird quirks.

@@Syy Nah. I like to learn the game on my own, but thanks for the recommendation. I am pretty far into the game anyway. I do find it weird how the game never really explains how the counter hits work considering how vital they are for being good at the game. I learned about the counter hits after watching Turbo button's video.

Primary reason I will never touch God Hand: My intense Old-Graphics phobia.
You'll be depriving yourself of a plethora of classics for that really dumb reason. Like refusing to watch any movie made before 2010 because the CGI sucks.

Fun fact: There is a mod that functions like style-switcher in DMC. As in, tap a button on the d-pad = change all your assigned moves. ;)

I'm from an asian country and God hand's popularity was on the same level with RE4, Devil may cry3 and God of war in my country. So I was disappointed when i found out what happened in the western.
This game is so underrated! I was so sad when my copy of the game got scratched and I never found another copy 😞

God damn I used to watch this guy’s stuff back in the day.
As someone who is part of a few different minorities, racially and in the LGBTQ+ I 150% LOVE this game and take EVERYTHING it says and does as satire, especially of the time. The stereotypes etc are so outlandishly over the top that there is almost no way shape or form that ANY of it was meant to reflect how they actually feel about the various subjects.
Also, YES i want to watch all your heavens lost property vids i just need to rewatch every episode i forgot about

You should be fine on difficulty. God Hand is closer to Ninja Gaidens take on difficulty more than Dark Souls. GH & NG are more about execution and mastery whereas the Soulsborne games are more about patience and foreknowledge.

Great game. Really underrated. I was kinda thinking "what's wrong with this game" on the first play, but trough an hour it was like a " nah, it's everything ok with this game". Still have disc copy and ps2 for it. I wish to have a fine CRT for ultimate non-inputlag gameplay set for this game.
Without Final Fight & arcade games in general, God Hand wouldn't exist. Its difficulty is simply arcade difficulty repurposed for a longer console game. It's my favorite game of all time but I keep seeing these takes that praise it while dismissing its extremely important arcade roots & do the usual "arcade games were unfair to steal your money, God Hand is NOT like that" song and dance, which only defines the arcade experience if you're both irresponsible with your money & only care about seeing the end of a game instead of getting better & better at it. Mindless coin-feeding is not what good arcade games were designed around just as God Hand itself encourages mastery and not just continuing a million times to see the end.
Your actual analysis of God Hand is absolutely spot on and really good which only makes your immediate dismissal of everything that inspired it stand out more. The fact that you can only compare it to two games that came later means you've been missing out on a ton of amazing action games cuz you were tricked into thinking arcade games & arcade-style console games are unfair & dated.
As good as Final Fight is though, it's extremely freaking hard and only recommended if you're willing to jump right into something that'll kick your ass. If not I'd recommend The Punisher as an introduction to classic 2D Capcom beat-em-ups. It's a console game, but 1CCing the Streets of Rage games on higher difficulties does highlight the uniqueness of the genre. Alien vs Predator is really interesting since it's kind of a proto "character action" game. For 3D stuff you can't go wrong with Die Hard Arcade/Dynamite Deka/Dynamite Cop (the sequel makes for a pretty easy 1CC). Spikeout is really good and did God Hand's launching mechanic before God Hand but it was designed to be played with friends and singleplayer is even harder than Final Fight.

If you love godhand check out Anarchy Reins. Similar combat, but they took it online. It was a good few months of massive battle arena. Oh and the 1v1 were hype.
