  • This video doesn't have much gardening going on but you don't have to worry. We aren't going all HGTV and getting rid of the G. ;) A commenter requested an update on our home construction the other day so I realized it was time for a tour. There are still quite a few things left to do before our new house is complete but we are getting close! Personally I can't wait to start digging in the dirt here and getting some projects started.
This house is a huge upgrade from where we've lived for the last 16 years. In our current house we have somewhere around 1600 sqft with 3 bedrooms and 7 people all crammed in. As our kids are growing it's been getting tight. We bought the land in 2007 and have worked very hard to get to this point.
    Some things about the house:
Our house plan is a Southern Living House Plan called the Ansley Park (‪@southernliving‬) We purchased modifiable plans and had an architect adjust a few things like the gables and the upstairs layout with bathrooms and bedrooms. We also adjusted some closets and the pantry downstairs.
We found a brick called St. Louis from the Columbus Brick Company. It's a pink-red-brown with white speckling. I like it since it reminds me of older colonial style homes. In my mind I'm thinking of this house as a Colonial Farmhouse style.
Our builder is Prominence Building Company in Spring Hill/Columbia TN. He actually a friend of mine who I've worked with in my main job as a real estate agent for several years. This house is completely custom from the design to the paint colors.
Our property is 7.26 acres. I would estimate that 4 acres of it are cleared or have just a few trees here and there while the rest is wooded. In the wooded portions we have pawpaw trees, oaks, redbud, dogwood, walnut, locust, and some assorted other trees.
There's a lot of rock on the property as you can see if you watch the video. Tennessee isn't called Rocky Top for nothing!
As always thank you for watching and subscribing. Feel free to shoot me questions on the project if you have any!

I'll try to give another update in a few weeks. We've got a lot of landscaping to work on so I'm excited to soon be able to work on that!

Thank you! Wish you guys were still up here in TN. All the kids are fine and the oldest is on her way to college this fall. It's crazy how time flies!

Beautiful house and property Dave ! As a previous contractor and home builder you’ve done your homework on design. Love all the mature trees 🌲 and I think by the time you’re my age, the work you put into the landscape and gardens it will be a beautiful place to be proud of. What state is this built in, are you still in Tennessee ?

Thanks! Over the last several years I've gone over and over floor plans to try to figure out the best way to do this house for us. We're planning on it being the forever home, obviously the unexpected can always happen, but we wanted it to be able to accommodate us as we grow older. We're still in Tennessee!
