    SawStop Blade Brake Technology
We recently took the SawStop Jobsite Saw JSS to our jobsite to evaluate. SawStop table saws are famous for their flesh sensing blade braking technology that stops the saw within 5/1000ths of a second after contact with skin.
While a lot of hoopla has surrounded this saw what often gets lost in translation is that with or without the flesh sensing brake technology, this saw offers premium features and performance.
    How SawStop Works
The saw blade carries a small electrical signal which monitors and detects skin contact with the blade, the signal in the blade changes because the human body is conductive. Once the signal changes, the saw activates a braking system which is a spring loaded, aluminum brake that embeds into the spinning blade, stopping it in 5/1000ths of a second.
The brake and blade collision momentum drives the blade beneath the table top, removing the blade from view, and simultaneously turning off the saw motor.
After an activation the saw needs to be reset. This is accomplished by replacing the saw blade and activated SawStop brake cartridge. The reset process takes approximately five minutes.
    Adjusting Blade Elevation and Tilt
One of my favorite features on this saw is the blade height knob. It requires only one single clockwise turn to FULLY raise or FULLY lower the blade. [Other saws require multiple turns to raise or lower the blade]
Changing the blade bevel is equally simple. A quick-tilt squeeze handle, located behind the hand wheel quickly and easily achieves your desired angle in 1° increments. The bevel stops and locks in place, as soon as you release the lever. A micro adjust knob then allows you to fine tune your tilt plus or minus a degree.
    Power Controls
The SawStop table saw power control switch can be confusing at first glance. There is a power switch that controls the electronics for the saw and then a larger start / stop paddle. In between the two switches are green and red LED indicator lights.
The LED indicator lights provide up to 12 different conditions, and a quick reference, all weather label is attached to the side of the saw, next to the switch for quick reference. Additionally, there is a color coded guide with instructions on top of the saw accessory drawer, in case you lose the user guide.
SawStop also provides a high quality moisture resistant User Guide that stores in the accessory drawer - so you always have access to it for codes and cartridge information.
    Conductive Material Bypass
Cutting CONDUCTIVE materials in normal mode WILL cause the saw brake to active.
    Conductive Materials include:
    Green or very wet wood
Pressure treated wood - contains copper solution
    Aluminum or other metals
    Foil
    Materials with Carbon
Some laminates - with copper flakes
Using Bypass mode to Cut Conductive Materials
The saw can be set into bypass mode to cut conductive materials or to test the conductivity of a material you may be suspicious of. In bypass mode there is NO saw blade brake protection.
    SawStop Rip Fence
The fence is a T-Style Fence, which self-squares when locked into position. The “ErgoLock” rocker paddle switch lever is located on the top of the fence and locks and unlocks the fence. We found is fast and simple to use.
A red knob on top of the fence extends a support-shelf when needed to support material. This shelf would be retracted when the fence is over the table or table extension wing. [see below]
    SawStop Table Extension
The SawStop Job Site Saw has a cleverly-designed table extension for ripping wider boards. A “flip-up,” release lever on the front of the saw allows you to slide the right side table. The table rides on rails and slides out for a maximum rip cut of 25-1/2” right of the blade.
The width of the cut is shown by the red indicator line over ruler. The upper scale is used when the table is retracted and the lower scale is for when the table extension rails are extended.
The SawStop Jobsite Saw JSS is pure innovation with premium features, functionality and compact portability. As a remodeling contractor that uses a table saw from frame to finish this saw allows me and my company to achieve precision, quality and most importantly SAFETY!

Great video! Another way to test the conductivity of a material is to just turn the power switch on, and touching the material to the blade without it spinning. If the red light flashes, you’ll need to use bypass mode.

I have used the cabinetmakers version of this saw and it is great, however I did trip it with foil covered foam insulation. We were not aware that this type of material would trip the saw so it was a $79.00 lesson. I have had a NUMBER of friends, coworkers and acquaintances seriously injured with unprotected table saws so even with the occasional false trigger it is a worthwhile investment.

I just purchased this saw and I love it. Well worth the money and while I never had an accident in over 30 years of woodworking, I love my fingers. Thanks. Great video.

Thanks for the great video. I just purchased this saw about 2 months ago and put it in my shop. So far so good. Very accurate, very nice. I built a sled for it also and it works great. I bought the dado stack and tried it. Very easy to switch in and out. Just takes a few minutes.
I went from a 35 year old 10" craftsman table saw without even a riving knife to this wonder saw with these safety features. Thanks again, your channel rocks.

This guys reviews are by far better than any tool reviewer on UA-cam. Learns the product inside and out and provides possible improvements. Curious if you value the safety feature enough to use this over the dwe7491rs you previously indicated is your saw of choice on the job site.

Thanks for the great quality video and review! I currently use an older saw and have been drooling over the sawstop tech since I first saw it. I had no idea they made a job site sized one.

Your videos are top notch! Saw stop build there business on the mission statement that all they want to do is protect people with their technology. Then bosch reaxx came out with an even safer technology that didnt ruin your blade. Sawstop sued them. So obviously they are more about money than safety which was there original mission statement!!

SawStop’s safety products are first rate. SawStop’s safety policy is Litigate / Legislate. That’s Saw Control, not Saw Safety.

My favorite thing is that power switch it's nice and big. I know at our high school we used this sign it did save a couple of fingers. What I really enjoy about the size is very simple to use also that nice big power switch if you do get in trouble and you can't let go your stock you can always turn it off with your knee this is a really nice saw a general

Ive been searching for days and wee hours of the morning for either a miter corded saw or jobsite table saw. it was after 2am this morning i picked this sawstop table saw. i felt both happy for the pick because of the high end features but the price had me feeling i was at a funeral for a friend. its 7.07pm and doing what i gotta do to recover from this "friend or foe" merry-go-round" im stuck in or just might fo something stupid and cancel the otder or keep it and order some Accessories lol. it sucks to be me sometime ha...

Are riving knives and splitters synonymous?

    • @to_a_nico
      @to_a_nico 6 років тому +6

No. Riving knives go up and down with the blade. Splitters are generally fixed to the table itself. Riving knives are much easier to deal with when making rip cuts and go a long way toward preventing kickback.

u mention the SPEED at which u can raise or lower the blade, but that speed appears to come at the cost of accuracy. This might be find for someone framing a house, but not so much for anywhere else.
you say you did not like the push stick location, but failed to mention does it come with 1 or 2 of them, cause if they should be used in pairs, if you need 1 you really should be using 2.
Did the people that developed the flesh sensing tech patent it or did they make it free for all. Basically is if money grab or do they care about protecting lives?

It's too bad the main stream tool companies are trying to steal sawstop's tech or destroy them instead of just working with them and paying them a fair amount to use the technology.
